Passenger side airbag remains "off" even when occupied. Took to dealer and was told it would be $1900 to replace the entire seat which is where the sensor is kept. Blue book value of the car is not even $5000, seems ridiculous to spend that much for an entire seat when the whole car is barely worth that much! as a serious safety concern I feel like kia should be doing something about this.

Another car cut in front of me causing the accident. I was driving, my husband was in the passenger seat. At the time of impact, the passenger side airbag deployed as it should with no problem but mine didn't. There was approximately 3-5 seconds late, then exploded sending hot shrapnel that injured me in several places on my face, chest, shoulders, stomach and arms causing cuts, burns, scrapes and bruises that my husband took pictures of after the accident. It was extremely tramatic & painful. I am still not completely healed.

Airbag sensor in passenger seat has malfunctioned for the second time and passenger side airbag not on light has come on again. According to my mechanic, kia does not sell just the sensor and the entire passenger seat assembly must be replaced again. Kia has no recall for the defective passenger seat/sensor combination for this particular model although it does for other models of the same year and problem. Kia should have an airbag seat/sensor recall.

Started car driver side air illuminated and stayed an still on and doesn't go off. And back driver side seat belt is lock and wont come out so no one can ride on that side of car because seat belt does not work.
I hit water on the highway causing my car to leave the road. I slid into several trees and completely caved in the driver side door and back fender. Not one air bag deployed at time of impact or after (it has front and side air bags). Luckily I was strapped in with the seat belt and held on for dear life to the steering wheel. Or I would have possibly gotten thrown through the front or side widows. I suffered a torn bicep tendon, whip lash, back pain and trauma to my legs. I will never trust buying a kia again.
The contact owns a 2009 kia Spectra. The contact stated that the air bag warning lamp flashed sporadically, which indicated a malfunction. As the failure progressed, the front passenger side air bag flashed off and on intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions. The technician indicated that there was no failure, but rather the weight capacity in the front passenger seat. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
On 12-13-11, at 6:15pm my wife (driver) and daughter (passenger) were involved in a mva in which they were "t" boned by a 2002 chevy suburban. At no time did the supplemental side air bags deploy, and this subsequently caused glass to implode on my wife in her scalp and hair. Contacted kia USA ([xxx]) who stated that the accident was not a near fatal accident, therefore the air bags acted accordingly. I find this to be ridiculous! and I'm being nice here. Requesting a full investigation into this failure or false sense of security we are led to believe. I have photos of the damaged caused. Subsequently, the other driver was charged and repairs have been made, but I feel that this matter needs attention. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2005 kia Spectra. While driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle was involved in a side impact crash in which only the frontal driver side air bag deployed. The contact also stated that the seat belt did remain secure during the crash. A police report was filed and two injuries were reported. The contact was transported to the hospital via ambulance to treat serious injuries and the driver of the second vehicle also suffered injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an independent repair shop. The cause of the air bag and seat belt failure was not determined. The failure and current mileage was 130,000.
Intentionally t-boned and side impact airbags didn't deploy. Now my airbag light is on.
Friday evening before last, my daughter (17 yrs old and a senior in high school) was riding with her friend and was hit by a car in the right front bumper area. The car my daughter was riding in, a 2009 kia Spectra, was totaled. Yet, despite the massive amount of damage to the car, the passenger airbag did not deploy nor did the seat belt lock. Hence, my daughter was knocked unconscious for about 45 minutes, her nose was broke, she received blood in the ventricles of the brain and she is extremely sore, to say the least. Funny thing is that the driver's dad took the brand new car (5,000 miles and 3 months old) to the dealer over the passenger air bag about two weeks before the accident. He was told that a passenger had to be 100 lbs and be seated just right in the passenger seat in order for the airbags to engage. The emt/firemen who rescued by daughter can all vouch for this. How is it that kia can advertise 'airbags' as a safety feature when they only deploy randomly?.
On January 4th 2010 at 4:30am another driver pushed me off the road. And my 2008 kia Spectra flew up a hill hit two trees at full speed then with full force hit a telephone pole. When my car hit the little hill only my drivers air bag deployed how ever I was still going about 49 mph. During this time of hitting trees some how my seat belt came out of the locking mechanism. After my stay in the hospital I went to see the car and none and I mean none of my side air bag had gone off when they should have. The back of my car went around a telephone pole and the rear air bags did not go off. The air bags in my seat did not go off I have permanent short term memory loss. All and all these kia Spectra''s and all kia's should not be allowed on the road in 2008 I was in a car wreck at my fault at 40 mph and my drivers air bag did not go off and my seat belt did not lock up.
The contact owns a 2009 kia Spectra ex/lx/sx. The contact stated that another vehicle crashed into the passenger front side of her vehicle. Upon impact the air bags failed to deploy and the restraint system failed to secure her in the seat. As a consequence she sustained severe injuries to the upper and lower part of her body. The cause of the failures has not been determined. She has a copy of indiana police report 09022263. She filed complaint number k1645446 with the manufacturer. Pictures of the failure are available. The failure and current mileages were 9,000. Updated 11/04/09. Updated 11/05/09.
The driver owned a 2006 kia Spectra. While driving 65 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle, hit a guard rail, rolled over into drainage ditch and crashed into a tree. The front and side air bags did not deploy. A police report was taken. The driver sustained major injuries and expired in the hospital two days later following the crash. The vehicle was destroyed. The contacts lawyer called the manufacturer and a forensic engineer who later determined that the air bags should have deployed. Both the failure and current mileages were unknown. Updated 04/22/10 received pictures. Updated 09/13/10.

My daughter was critically injured in a rollover accident with my 2007 kia Spectra. I purchased this vehicle because of the "safety" ratings and felt she would be well protected in an accident. This vehicle was equipped with side curtain airbags as well as dash airbags. None of the airbags deployed in this accident. In reading the information packet that came with the vehicle I understand the front airbags are not designed to deploy in a rollover, however I believe the side airbags should have according to the information provided. Others I have spoken with (mechanics, attorneys etc) agree. This vehicle was 8 months old and had only 8000 miles on it. It was a "total loss":.
All four(4) side airbags failed to deploy in auto incident involving 2008 model kia Spectra.
The contact owns a 2005 kia Spectra. While driving 35 mph, the contact's vehicle was struck on the rear driver side door. The side air bags failed to deploy and his seat belt did not tighten on impact. The contact was injured and a police report was filed. The manufacturer stated that from the angle the vehicle was struck, the air bags would not have deployed; however, the dealer stated that they should have deployed. The VIN and engine size were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 48,000.
My 2006 kia Spectra hatchback was parked in the driveway with the e-brake on, both front doors were open and the car was running, I sat in the car and closed the driver side door and the seat and side curtain airbags went off, hitting me. I contacted kia immediately to file a complaint, had the car towed to kia where they examined it. I told kia I wanted the car replaced, we just bought it in February of this year. The car is torn up inside from the air bags deploying and I'm afraid the system will malfunction again. On 11/12/07 they called and said that the computer registered that the car had been in a collision and therefore they will not make any repairs to the car. The car was not in an accident and does not have a dent on it plus I have a witness that was standing outside the opened passenger door when it happened. I'm afraid to put my children in this car for fear that the other air bags will deploy unexpectedly and injure or kill them. This has affected my hearing and my neck has been hurting, kia hasn't even called to see if I was ok. I'm calling a lawyer tomorrow morning but someone needs to investigate and run some tests while closing the doors. I am extremely disappointed in kia. They should not be allowed to conduct business if they are not willing to take responsibility for hazardous defects!.
The contact rented a 2007 kia Spectra. The contact stated that the front and rear passenger side air bags deployed without warning when the key was placed in the ignition. The driver suffered hearing loss in the left ear, whiplash in the neck, and a cut on the arm. The rear passenger was a nine year old child who suffered head injuries. The VIN, engine size, number of cylinders, and purchase date were unavailable. The current and failure mileages were 29,000.
2004 kia Spectra on 3/20/06 was impacted on passenger side within the area of front and rear doors. The impact forced the rear of my car to slid away from impact and come in contact with a pickup truck damaging my drivers side rear quarter and not one air bag in my car deployed and there are 8 air bags in this model car.

We were broadsided on the passenger side of the car, the other vehicle was traveling in excess of 30 mph. The side curtain air bags did not deploy. We contacted kia and they determined that the damage was not enough to deploy the air bags. My wife had to be extracted by the jaws of life. We had problems with the sensor light no going off when a passenger was in the front seat. We had it brought in and they did the recall. But they say there is no proof that they did or did not work properly. Kia covers themselves by stating that not all accidents will deploy the air bags.
Passenger side airbag sensors in 2004 Spectra. The air bag sensors in the front passenger seat did not always detect when adults were sitting there.
Both the seatbelt and the airbag did not work on the driver side the airbag on the passenger side also did not deploy.
