The contact owns a 2007 kia Spectra. The contact stated that the passenger seat pressure sensor for the air bag remained illuminated, even when the passenger seat was unoccupied. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 125,000.

The airbag sensor in the passenger seat appears to be failing, similar to other kia models. The light indicating the airbag is off is illuminated when the vehicle is occupied by an adult.

The light went on as the vehicle passed 100k miles. The light started blinking as the car was in motion. Not for long, the light remained on since then. Went to a dealership and they estimated more than 2k usd to replace the front seat. They explained that the sensor mat is attached to the seat and to replace it they need to replace the whole seat. This is a major safety issue and I have no doubts that this is a manufacturing malfunction that should be addressed by this kia due to the overwhelming reporting on the same issue and the poor design that caused the maintenance price to be so high (almost half the price of the vehicle).

Airbag mat sensor failed. Seems to be very common unfortunately. No accident or injury as of yet.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 kia Spectra. The contact stated that the air bag warning sensor illuminated continuously and causing the passneger seat to malfunction. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor and the passenger seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown. Ak.

Air bag sensor makes a working light stay on. The car has never been in an accident. When it was diagnosed by kia dealership it said manufacturer failure. They said things happen and it's after 5 years so it's my job to fix this $2000 problem.

Front passenger seat air bag sensor is defective. Weight sensor on dash will not work and the air bag symbol is turned on the dash.

The sensor light turned on and disabled airbags. We took it to the all star kia in baton rouge off of siegen lane. They told us it would be 1549. To fix it. I contacted corporate office spoke to ralph howard, he told me he would send the case to regional office since I wanted them to pay for it. Three days later ralph howard called me and said they would pay for half of the cost, we declined he said he would then send it to the regional office. I reminded him he had said that three days ago. Finally I reach a ms. Jessica in regional who was not very pleasant and she said it was no longer under warranty, so they could not pay for it. I told her I would not let this go. Today 4-13-15 she called and left a message on my phone saying that the dealer would pay half of the cost and that I had 30 days to accept. I feel like this should of been a recall since there are so many consumers with this same problem same model car. They recalled 146,000 thousand other cars different models and years for the same thing. Just want them to be honest and do the right thing.

Air bag sensor light comes on and off randomly. Will stay on for weeks then go off. Has happened since purchase of car.

The passenger detection sensor in the passenger seat would sometimes work on and off while driving, or while they shifted in the seat. The light that says the passenger airbag was off would stay on (meaning the sensor would not detect someone in the seat) and the red error light on the dash would stay on. Now the sensor does not work at all (and has not for the past few years). This was after the warranty expired and asking my mechanic said I should take it to an upholsterer to get it fixed. The issue still has not been fixed due to the estimated cost.

The sensor in the passenger seat was found to be defective during a state inspection. I had to replace the seat, which cost me $2,231. 93. I was told by the autoshop, and by 2 different kia dealerships that this seems to happen alot in kias. I thinik that kia should reimburse me for this but don't know how to go about that. I see that they have recalled other models for airbag malfunctions. This model should be looked into as well.

My daughter owns a 2009 kia Spectra a friend getting in the rear seat tried to open the door and the outside handle broke-off. About 6 months later the front inside driver-side door handle stop working. About 1 year later on Jan-31-2014 the front out-side drivers-side handle broke-off. Now no way to with no way to open the drivers door, this is very dangerous. With three handles broken there must be a recall on these handle. If there is not a recall, there should be one. Other problems with this, cam-shaft sensor had to be replaced, also the air-bag light is on. This car is junk, kia should be ashamed of building it and selling it for $16,000 to $17,000.

Air bag light warning light on the instrument panel came on, and mechanic diagnosed it as a faulty sensor in the front passenger seat (error code b1448 - OCS mat defective), and said that the bottom portion of the front passenger seat needed to be replaced (at a cost of $1,600). This is the same defect for which 06-08 kia rio's were recalled (NHTSA campaign number: 12v244000). The recall should be extended to include similar model year kia Spectras - there are a similar number of NHTSA complaints regarding airbags for the 06 kia Spectra as 06 kia rio. Problem was resolved by replacing the front passenger seat with one from an 04 kia Spectra from an auto salvage yard.

Vehicle hit from rear at high rate of speed and pushed into vehicle to drivers side and vehicle in front. Fire dept at scene said the vehicle was impacted where airbag sensor is and should have gone off. No airbags went off. Driver with serious injuries. Children in back seat very minor injuries.

Airbags; frontal; sensor/control module: passenger airbag seat sensor malfunction. The center console passenger seat airbag (yellow occupancy) on/off light would illuminate interment when passenger sat in passenger seat regardless of speed or motion, I. E. , shortly after engine startup through shutdown (should have been no light illuminated with passenger in seat). The problem started mid July 2012 and continued intermittently over the next 6 months until the red airbag inoperative light (in the speedometer cluster) came on and remained illuminated in late Dec 2012. Aprox weight of three passengers who frequented the passenger seat over the 6 month period) were 135, 150 and 215 lbs respectively. Passenger (seat) airbag sensor malfunction was confirmed (diagnosed and isolated) by holmes automotive of fort walton beach FL, on 24 Dec 2012. Believe identical problem as NHTSA campaign id nbr 12v244000.

Experiencing same problem as below, believe that sensors are identical parts, request assistance to include all kia models produced during this time period that are experiencing same problem. Problem verified by colonial kia, colonial heights, va as seat sensor on 6 Jul 12. Right front seat air bag sensor, dealer states none of the air bags will deploy in a collision because of this sensor.

The contact owns a 2005 kia Spectra. The contact stated that the air bag sensor in the front passenger seat failed. As a consequence in a situation that warrants the air bag may fail to deploy, which increases the risk of serious injury. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and a technician concluded that the entire air bag cluster under the seat needed to be replaced. However, the repair is not specified in the warranty so he would liable to pay the expense. The failure mileage was 82,000.

When the front passenger seat was occupied the srs warning indicator illuminated to the on and off position intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician informed that the passenger seat occupant must be positioned properly before the sensor warning indicator illumination. The dealer would not replace or repair the airbags. The contact stated the failure had been continuous since the purchase of the vehicle in 2009. The failure mileage was 50. The current mileage was 12,000.

Had a major accident with my vehicle, in which the car accelerated and I crashed into a tree. The sensor in front of the car didn't open the front airbag in the steering wheel at all. Thank god I was wearing my seat belt, it kept me from crash head on through the wind shield. I was seriously injured and had to be taken to the hospital. When I called the kia dealership about what had happen to the car and the defect of the airbags not opening up, the service department manager got very nasty with me, like they didn't want to take responsibility for there products. That's the reason why I'm filing this complaint against kia. I could have receive more serious injuries in what I have or worse, I could have been killed.

My son has a 2008 kia Spectra and I have a 2009 kia Spectra. Both cars have difficulty turning on the front passenger air bag when the car is/has been cold and my wife sits in the front passenger seat. She weighs approx 105 pounds and when the cars have been sitting in the cold, the sensors in the seat do not register that she's there. Consequently the passenger air bag is automatically turned off and would not deploy if we were in an accident. I have spoken with the kia dealer about it and they say that if functions normally. But it doesn't. If the weather's warm, neither car seems to have the problem as often.

Also, the contact stated that when there was no adult in the front passenger seat and the air bag light was off. The light should be working the opposite of *akthe current failure. The failure mileage was 2447 . The dealer stated that the vehicle was operating normally; however, the mechanic duplicate dthe failure. The current mileage was 2584.

This happened intermittently. The dealer had reprogrammed the computer, and changed the passenger's front seat, which had not resolved the problem. The manufacturer sent a representative to examine the vehicle, and the air bag light illuminated while a passenger was in the front seat. The current mileage was 1600. The air bag sensor didn't reconize the consumers wife as an adult. Updated 03/22/07.

Warning light for airbag on the speedometer panel stays on. Dealer and kia tech first replaced passenger seat cover and drivers side seat buckle because they were shorted out. This did not solve the problem. They then said the problem was because of some fluid spilled on computer under cup holders in the center council. (why would anyone put a liquid sensitive product under a cup holder?) they stated that pin 3 on the computer connector was shorted out. I then pointed out that pin 3 was a ground pin. Kia has had massive failures with their early airbag systems and have refused to fix an item that was the bases for choosing their product. Kia has since introduced a new airbag product that seems to work flawlessly. This new product should be offered at no expense to those of us that were provided a inferior and unsafe product.

Passenger airbag off light continues to come on at various times while driving with an adult passenger in the seat. I have had it in the shop four times in the 5 months that I have owned it. They have checked connections etc. And said they could not get it to duplicate the problem. I met with the kia rep last week and he said he had never heard of this problem in a Spectra. They are replacing the seat bottom now to see if this helps. They implied that the problem was probably because the passenger was large and their weight was resting on the outer edge of the seat and not placing enough weight on the gel pad in the center of the seat.

- the contact stated that on 02-04-06 he while driving 70 mph a 2006 kia Spectra it was involved in a crash when the c onsumer's v ehicle was cut off by another vehicle. At which time the contact's vehicle then swerved to avoid the other vehicle and vehicle went off the road into the bushes. The vehicle sustained front end damage, the air bags did not deploy. As a result, the contact was injured. The contact stated that therewas a police report. The contact was driving a rental car.

Vehicle was driven 70 miles before passenger airbag system failed, 1400 miles before I determined the stalling problem was not operator error, and about 90 days before driving at highway speeds and finding a shake in the steering. The vehicle has been taken to the selling dealer 20 times with the airbag problem and steering shake un-repaired. Sc0055 on the airbag issue, reprogramming the sensor(s) and replacing the seat bottom has not eliminated the problem or failures. 7 new tires have been installed and balanced, to include road-force balancing 3 times without correcting the shake in the steering. Vehicle has been test driven hundreds of miles at the dealers request.

We are having problems with passenger side air bag light coming on at any given time . Even after the air bag recalls were performed on it. Regardless of weight. It will come on and stay on. We have complained and said there can be nothing done unless you bring it in while passenger is sitting in sit an air bag light is on.

Problems began October 15, 2005 details of problems: 03/25/05 - a/c vents broken - dealer replaced "nozzle assy - ctr ai" 10/15/05 - check engine light is on - dealer states 'heater circuit malfunction' replaced "02 sensor assy" and reset codes 10/28/05 - check engine light is on and battery went dead (I had it jumped by aaa)- dealer cannot find problem 10/28/05 - emblem cracked on steering wheel - dealer states 'flaw in material' replaced driver side srs bag 11/29/05 - check engine light is on - dealer states p0442 gas cap not sealing & p0455 canister not sealing - dealer replaces gas cap and canister, also orders new ecm 11/29/05 - dealer recalled: sc053 reprogram OCS seat control and sc055 Spectra air bag -dealer replaces items for recall 01/03/06 - check engine light is on - dealer states 'logic error in ecm - dealer replaced ecm 01/11/06 -check engine light is on - dealer states 'poor ground at ecm' was instructed by tech line to replace spark plugs; dealer repaired ground and replaced spark plugs 01/23/06 - engine light is on - dealer states problem at ecm - kept car for repairs 02/13/06 - dealer states that Spectra cannot be repaired at this time. They also state that another car with a similar problem has been sent back to korea so that they can find the problem. Dealer's estimated time to repair my car 2 months from now (has been at dealer since 01/23/06 - 20 days) as stated by keith emmerman, kia palmdale service manager. Mr. Emmerman also stated that I am required, as the Spectra owner, to come pick up my car un-repaired and drive it anyway. I have been told by the kia dealership in palmdale, that the problem the kia is having is in the computer. They do not know how to fix it and want me to drive it any way. The car has been in the shop several times for different problems and now 3 times for the ecm. Now they want me to pick up the car and drive it even though the problem has not been fixed and they don't know how to fix it.
