Air bag light (red warning light) started to stay on constantly. This means that air bag will probably not deploy in case of crash (to best of my knowledge when searching on google about this issue). Before this light turned on (red light on air-bag), I experienced an issue with "passenger air-bag off" light staying on - despite someone is present on passenger seat (meaning that air-bag will not deploy as computer is not sensing anybody seating there). I would need to stop-by on road side, then turn vehicle off completely, asked a person on passenger seat to go out - wait for a while - and then restart the vehicle and request a person to get back on seat. Later on, this way no longer working. Computer reset no longer working. Friends warned me that - it is sign of air-bag system failure and kia should get it fixed (it comes under safety). This issue is constant irrespective if vehicle is stationary or in motion.
The 2007 kia Spectra was in motion on the highway and was in an accident with major impact. The airbag did not deploy. The kia hit another car and had major damages.

Tamara recall; there was an accident about ten cars in front of me. I seen everyone start hitting there brakes so I started applying mine. Then I realized everyone had come to a stop so I applied on my brakes even harder and they locked up and I slid about 15 ft. And hit a truck in the rear end still going about 35 mph. It shoved the front end of my car back quite a bit but yet my airbags never deployed.

When commuting on a freeway going the speed limit (65) approaching a bend, a car suddenly appeared around the bend that was broken down in the left lane. Unable to swerve because of a large truck next to me, I slammed on my brakes, only to hit ice and begin spinning uncontrollably on the freeway. Finally, the car hit completely head on into a concrete barrier and the seat belts locked up, causing a giant bruise from the impact, but even at the speed of hitting this concrete barrier, the airbags did not deploy at all. The car has since been totalled and taken away, but I fear for others safety that this may be an issue with other kia Spectras.
Upon purchase, brand new off the lot in 2005, the seat belt light on my dashboard was always coming on and off when driving even if a person was sitting in the passenger seat or not. I never really understood exactly why or had money to have it looked at specifically for that problem. When I would take it to the mechanic, they would always say it looked normal. When I finally was able to take it to a mechanic specifically for this issue, I was informed that the airbag would not deploy due to an issue with needing a new seat. I have had my kia Spectra ex for some time now, so I had to have them salvage the seat from a salvage yard. Luckily, they were able to locate an old seat in a wrecked kia and it looks nice in my car, and this light so far has not come back on. The total cost was around $2,000 and it was sad to put out the cash because I'm a student. After searching, I noticed on other sites that I am not the only person to have experienced this issue.

I am filing this for my mom. She rear ended a car who had stopped the flow of traffic at a green light to let a vehicle out of a parking lot. My mothers air bags did not deploy and she received a double open fracture to her right ankle and a fractured sternum and intense chest traura. She was life flighted to a hospital in wv ruby memorial she underwent surgery and they saved her right foot they wher unsure if they could save and talked before surgery of possible amputation.
My car is a 2009 kia Spectra ex. It was purchased in 2011 from enterprise car sales. The mileage at purchase was approximately 46k. In may of 2015, around 74k mileage, the air bag light would turn off and on sporadically. One day the air bag light never turned off. At this point, I decided to have the car inspected my a certified kia dealer. The air bag code received from inspection was b1378 which indicated a problem with the 'side air bag - resistance too high'. The inspector than hooked up the air bag to side air bag connector and the air bag light went out indicating that the driver side air bag would need to be replaced. The technician suggested that to fix the issue I would need to obtain an entire driver's seat from a pre-owned vehicle to replace the current driver's seat (cost part & labor: $ 694. 00, but no guarantee that this would be effective) or purchase a brand new air bag directly from kia factory (cost of parts & labor: $1341. 73) I have seen that other's are having similar issues in other forums. This issue with defective air bags has been a problem for kia in the past with cars of same year but different model. I am fortunate to have never been in an accident, but I was informed by the dealership if I was ever in an accident this air bag would not deploy.
Vehicle rear ended another vehicle. Airbags didn't deploy as they should have. My son received a concussion as a result (he was wearing his seatbelt). Kia has indicated that airbags would not deploy. Please help.
My indicator on my dash board for an airbag problem came on, upon taking it to a maintenance shop they found out that it was due to a sensor going bad in the passenger seat. After they called multiple places, including the local kia dealership regarding this problem, they informed me that this is a recurrent issue in my kia model, so much to the point that a seat may only be attained from the manufacturer with a prolong waiting time because of the high demand for the replacement of them due to this problem. After researching online, many different sources have confirmed this to be true, why is this not a recall? the passenger seat airbag sensor module clearly has a fault, rendering it to have a short life span, this is a safety hazard. If it had gone bad while I was driving with someone in the passenger seat, and happened to encounter an accident, the passenger airbag would not have deployed. Not to mention that the seat module itself is by no means an inexpensive part, consumers should not be expected to pay for a problem that was guaranteed to go bad after a short time, if that was the case it should be stated upon the purchase of the car from the dealership.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 kia Spectra. The contact stated that while at a stop, another vehicle crashed into the driver's side of the contacts vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained minor bruises that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Oo.
My airbag light had been flashing off and on intermittently, and I had thought that it was when there was no weight in the passenger seat to activate it. At some point after that, it stopped flashing and was on constantly. I brought my car in for its yearly inspection and it was not passed due to the fact that my air bag system had been disabled. This was due to a faulty sensor in the front passenger seat. This will cost me over $2000 to fix and is a safety hazard for my day to day driving. I was informed that if I were to get into a collision that my air bags would not deploy. I contacted several dealerships and the kia company itself and was told that my warranty had just expired and that I would have to repair this in full myself. I have read several complaints of the same nature and I cannot believe that the company will not recall this part and provide peace of mind and safety to its customers.
I was t boned by a 3/4 truck and the side airbags did not deploy.
I was proceeding straight through a traffic light when a passenger truck turned illegally in front of me from the oncoming traffic. I was going approximately 40 mph. The airbag did not deploy as would think it should at that speed. Fortunately, my seat belt prevented me from getting a more serious injury. I did receive a severe bruise that took months to disappear and aggravated an existing back condition. Perhaps it is just as well or better that the airbag did not deploy since the airbag may have given me a more serious injury. Fortunately, I had no passenger and the other person in the truck did not get hurt. My car was totaled. I am thankful to god that I am alive today.

I was visiting my fiance in utah when a tan car hit my driver's side front end. We both were put into a spin and he hit me a secondary time. My car has since been totaled out and labeled as beyond salvage. The entire front end is missing and there is sever engine damage. The auto body shop and my insurance company said I needed to contact kia and let them know about the airbag failure to deploy. Kia said my car is built to collapse a certain amount before airbags will deploy. They also said since I was put into a spin my car did not decelerate fast enough to trigger the airbags, but since I had decelerated while spinning that's what prevented them from deploying upon the second impact. They only investigated my car via photographs and my verbal statement to them. They also told me this was not a problem in my car, but according to this website there are multiple airbag deployment failures with my make and model car. I asked kia if they would put what they had concluded in writing and at first they said yes but now they are saying it will take a while. I am concerned.
Dealer states issue with airbag sensor mat on passenger side. Same issue as recalled on the 2006 rio. A similar spec sensor mat is installed on the Spectras as well and therefore a recall should be implemented on those models as well. Failure to recall these vehicles based on this issue could result in serious injury to passengers of vehicle if involved in an accident as the airbags would fail to deploy.
I was driving on hwy 40 e approaching exit 153 in heavy rainfall. Approximately 0. 25 miles from the exit the truck already on the exit ahead of me began applying its brakes. Pre-braking measures were taken. The wheels locked up and I collided with the truck in front of me and flew forward into the steering wheel. I had been braking the entire time, but my seat-belt did not lock into place. My airbag did not deploy. I suffered bruising, severe headaches, and minor cuts as a result. Insurance declared car as total loss.
Car took me off the side of the road and straight into a tree dead center roughly going 35 miles an hour. Air bags did not deploy!!!! hit my head on steering wheel. And now trying to figure out if it was the dealership selling defective cars or if its kia defect. Not understanding this whole airbag does not deploy thing because the safety graph explains 0-8 mph airbags will never go off 8-14 mph airbags are possible but not likely 14-above airbags should deploy always.
The contact owned a 2008 kia Spectra. The contact stated that while traveling in rainy weather, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pole. The front driver frontal and side curtain air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained severe injuries from the impact and was killed. The failure and the current mileage was 41,000. Updated 04/23/12 updated 05/08/lj spoke with consumer, there was one death and no injuries. Updated 05/151/2.
