While stopped on a small hill in traffic, I was rearended by a Ford truck who was going about 35mph. My airbags did not deploy. I was taken to the hospital for injuries to my knees and my neck. I see there are many many many complaints regarding the deployment of airbags. There definitely is a major problem and a recall should be ordered. This is a serious problem which could result in death. Also many times while driving my speedometer will go to zero while driving or jump to 100+, in addition the rpm gauge will do the same. This too is also mentioned many times clearly there is some manufacturer defect. I am the only owner of the vehicle.
I recently have been in an accident where my airbags did not deploy. And I was a little concerned that they didn't so I did some research and there has been a recall on my airbag system. I was wondering why I was not contacted about this so I could take my car in for service.

This vehicle does not consistently sense the front passenger, resulting in the airbag sensor being in the "off" mode even when a passenger is sitting there. The vehicle was checked by a kia dealer, who said the computer did not note anything wrong. The service technician said "with some kia's, the sensor does not detect a passenger in the seat unless they are sitting directly in the middle of the seat. " this concerns us greatly, as, if we are in an accident, the passenger air bag will not deploy if the sensor does not register a passenger in the seat.
Airbags did not deploy during frontend collision! my wife's head was slammed against the side window. Hospital to be visited soon. (this was about an hour ago).

Friday evening before last, my daughter (17 yrs old and a senior in high school) was riding with her friend and was hit by a car in the right front bumper area. The car my daughter was riding in, a 2009 kia Spectra, was totaled. Yet, despite the massive amount of damage to the car, the passenger airbag did not deploy nor did the seat belt lock. Hence, my daughter was knocked unconscious for about 45 minutes, her nose was broke, she received blood in the ventricles of the brain and she is extremely sore, to say the least. Funny thing is that the driver's dad took the brand new car (5,000 miles and 3 months old) to the dealer over the passenger air bag about two weeks before the accident. He was told that a passenger had to be 100 lbs and be seated just right in the passenger seat in order for the airbags to engage. The emt/firemen who rescued by daughter can all vouch for this. How is it that kia can advertise 'airbags' as a safety feature when they only deploy randomly?.
2005 kia Spectra. Consumer states airbags did not deploy during an accident the consumers daughter was driving. Also, the seat belt did not lock into place. Updated 12/08/jb the consumer stated the vehicle was totaled. Updated 07/20/10.
1. Two passengers (female 64 yr driver and female 13 yr old passenger) were proceeding down a residential road in a 2007 kia Spectra at less than 20 mph. Halfway down the road, driver began to lightly apply the brake knowing that the stop sign was further down the road. At this moment the car revved and experienced sudden acceleration. The driver shouted out that something was wrong with the car. The driver attempted to stop the car but the brakes failed. The car accelerated to approximately 60 mph. Unable to stop, the car went through the stop sign and proceeded across the street towards a guard rail. Driver instinctively turned the wheel to the left so that the car would not hit the guard rail head on. The vehicle collided with the guard rail on the passenger side, throwing the driver into the passenger seat, where the other passenger was sitting. The driver hit her head hard on the passenger window and experienced other injuries as a result of being thrown from the driver seat. The air bags in the car failed to deploy. The car bounced off the guard rail and proceeded at full speed across the street again. The car ran over some small hedges in a resident's yard and proceeded up a steep hill before coming to a stop. The passenger of the car immediately dialed 911 and the police/ambulance arrived shortly after. 2. The car's electronic throttle is believed to be defective. This defect results in random episodes of sudden acceleration when the brakes are applied. Because the episodes are random, the problem is not easily duplicated. However, there are numerous documented cases of sudden acceleration in kia vehicles on the internet. 3. Vehicle was towed to a mechanic for investigation. Mechanic attempted a diagnostic test, but mechanic reported that the 2007 kia Spectra is not sophisticated enough to apply such a test. Vehicle was then taken to the local kia dealership for further examination. Kia claims they are unable to duplicate the problem.
I own a 2005 kia Spectra and was in a car accident where the airbags did not deploy. The is significant front end damage. My passenger and I were both wearing our seatbelts and only had minor injuries but I'm very surprised that the airbags did not deploy. I was driving south and a car in the northbound left turn lane turned in front of me and I hit her. The majority of the damage is on the passenger front side> the hood crumpled, the power steering pump and radiator are cracked, there is wheel and axle damage and the engine won't start.

The contact owns a 2008 kia Spectra. Ever since the vehicle was purchased, the air bag indicator remains illuminated when an occupant is seated in the passenger seat. The dealer tested the air bag sensor by placing a 200 lbs. Mechanic in the seat. The indicator dimmed; therefore, the dealer stated that the air bag was fine. While driving 70 mph on the interstate, the contact swerved to avoid a deer and crashed into a tree. The air bags failed to deploy. The seat belt tensioner failed when the crash occurred. Kia replaced the air bag computer, sensor, and seat belt. The contact suffered a concussion and a police report was filed. 1. My son was driving my car on us 280 in alabama just south of birmingham when he was involved in an accident with another automobile. According to the police report he was traveling at 45 mph when he impacted the rear of another car. 2. As a result of the impact he was thrown forward and his head struck the windshield. He suffered a mild concussion and cuts an bruises. The automobile has factory installed air bags for both the driver and passenger. Neither air bag deployed. 3. State farm (the insurer) wrote the car off as a total loss. I sent photos of the car to kia corporate in irvin, CA. I was involved in a front end collision and my kia Spectra was a total loss. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance for neck and head injuries. My airbag never went off. I believe it should have. The insurance wants to close out the claim and I advised them that I wanted kia to inspect the vehicle as to why the airbag did not deploy. Would like to take care of this without having to get a lawyer involved. I was released from the hospital with whiplash and pain meds. I need to get a new vehicle and liked my Spectra but am unsure as to its safety. The vehicle was smoking but not sure as to what caused it. Fireman brought over an extinguisher but I don't believe they used it.

I had a 2007 kia Spectra. My daughter was going to washington to help her husband fix up an apartment for them to move in. I suggested to my daughter that she could take my car since it was new and more reliable. I received a call about 12:30 am. She told me that someone stopped quickly in front of her and she veered to keep from hitting her. She said that when she did something happened with the car and she lost control. She ended getting hit from behind and pushed into another vehicle. Sandwiching the car in the middle. I might would have thought that it was human error on her part. But, the air bags did not even deploy. This tells me that something was horribly wrong with my car and my daughter was blessed to have been able to walk away from the accident. My car was a total loss and the insurance adjuster told me there was nothing salvageable from this car. I told him that I felt that it was strange that both the front and back of the car was crushed and the air bags did not deploy. This tells me something was terribly wrong. Can you look into this for me. Thank you for your time and consideration.
