Air Bag Problems of Kia Motor Sportage - part 2

I hit the side of a car I didn't see while pulling out of a car park onto the road, so I was moving slowly forward. A car had appeared from behind 2 turning cars and I hit the side of it. Neither the air bag or the seat belt in my car stopped my head from making contact with the windshield. I was very shaken at the time as anyone would be. The following day I needed to rest, and 2 days later went to er where I had a scan and was diagnosed with a concussion. Over 2 weeks later, I am much better but not yet fully recovered. I received a citation from the attending police officer for careless driving. I have contacted corporate kia to ask why both the airbag and seat belt failed to help me avoid injury. I attach a photo of the front of my car and the police report.

Car was in a collision with metal bridge barrier(standing solid object) head on, spun to hit both rear sides and spun some more and no air bags deployed. I hit my head on the driver side panel and resulted in a concussion. I was on the highway going about 65mph when I hit an ice block on the road, spun to the side and hit the metal barrie on the left side of the road head on and spun more to hit the back tire. Car is a total loss according to insurance.

The airbag safty light came on and will not go off. . The owner's manual says this means the airbag is not working or is malfunctioning.

I had just started the car when the air bag caution light appeared on the dashboard. Took the vehicle to dealer for diagnostic to find out the air bag control module was bad and needed to be replaced. While waiting for service, my husband was asked whether we had been in an accident and he told them no. We purchased the car from the dealer certified used and there was no mention of any accidents prior to us purchasing it. Failure to replace the control unit would have rendered the air bag system useless.

Air bag not engaged light is on.

Airbag above passenger curtain has defective module. Vehicle has only 53375 miles on it, is always garaged. Kia has issued 507,000 vehicle recall for airbags defects, going back to year 2010. Normal warrenty is 5 years or 60,000 miles. Kia told me I am not a loyal kia customer because I do not routinely bring my car to dealers for services, opposed to my local garage. Replacement of airbag is $1956. 00 not including labor and tax.

My daughter, was involved in an accident on 1/29/19 at 7:45am. She was stopped and a truck hit her from behind and she hit the vehicle in front of her. The air bags did not go off and she hit her head on wheel, and windshield. Her son who was in back in his car seat, also hit his head. They both sustained severe concussions, black eyes, head aches, whip lash. The seat belt did not hold either of them in place nor did the air bags go off.

On January 24th 2019 at 7:45 p. M. I was involved in a head-on collision that results in my car being pushed across the streets and hitting the curb on the other side of the street causing my vehicle to be completely totaled none of my airbags deployed which caused me to hit everything on the inside of my vehicle I was injured I had a cervical sprain a concussion I also had nerve damage to the right side of my body I also had a bulging disc in the top of my neck and in the lower part of my back the seat belts did not hold me in place we were going 35 miles per hour in motion I contacted the manufacturer of kia they came to read the data from my vehicle's black box and I was told that the vehicle was not hit with enough force for the airbags to deploy however the vehicle that hit me was a 2002 mustang in all of their airbags deployed.

Air bag came out but did not inflate in head on collision seat belt did not restrain 40 mph head on in motion.

While sitting in the vehicle, stationary in a parking lot talking with my wife, the airbags deployed.

Tl- the contact owns a 1997 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stationed, the air bag deployed unexpectdely with the driver and passenger seats occupied. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was towed to kia of wilmington 1603 pennsylvania Ave, wilmington, DE 19806 (302) 656-3100 where the contact was informed that the vehicle is too old to tell why the air bags deployed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 176,620. Dr.

At approximately 40,000 miles the clock spring malfunctioned disabling the air bags and horn.

The clock spring is not working which deactivates the air bag system and horn. This is an extremely dangerous condition. This should result in a recall immediately.

I hit a small deer at 73mph totaled my kia heavy front end damage hood came up and busted my windshield which caused glass to get in my eyes. Not one air bag deployed. It knocked the battery out and buster the radiator, hadn't made my first payment yet.

We really do not know what went wrong, we were on route 19 n. At hico,wv and we turned onto a side road,the car sled on the gravel we hit the bank and turned on our side. The air bags did not go off and we couldn't get the seat belts to release so we were trapped in the car. The car was a total loss.

The clock spring is broken which causes an air bag and horn malfunction.

Was driving and the airbag inflated, the brakes locked up. Then started smelling gas and smoke.

Takata recall" fuel can not get 25mpg combined or 21 city never 30 listed on highway 15 to 17 city 19 on the highway the most. I returned a kia sorrento after few months in 2013 a new sorrento for the poor gas not living to the fuel epa I was inform that I have to drive 5000,to 10000 to get better mpg I had the sorrento for 15000 miles and now the Sportage have 18000 and the mpg it is so bad. The air condition also very low flow.

I bought a car last week from a private seller, and it has a gas leak coming from the gas tank area. I have not taken it in yet to a mechanic to have it checked out. The seller had replaced the filler hose, and had said the previous owner had replaced the gas tank, so he said there shouldn't have been any issues. I have two grandchildren that need to be able to ride safely in this car, and I refuse to drive it with this leak on there. From the other reports that I am reading, this is a major issue, along with the rusted frame on the car. Kia should not be allowed to continue to sell cars without fixing these other major issues.

One morning, the vehicle was stationary on my drive way. I have noticed my car airbag yellow light is on and it has been on since December 15, 2015. I know its a safety issue and I am worried about it. I feel it may be a default on the airbag.

I was traveling approx. 50 mph and a woman pulled out in front of me and I (t boned ) her. My chest hit the steering wheel and then the air bag deployed immediately all functions stopped working. The car filled with white smoke from the air bag. My windows were up and I could not roll them down nor steer. I could not breath the car was rolling it stopped at approx. 50 ft. When I got out I was gasping I had a white substance all over me in my nose. I'm very concerned.

Involved in a very low impact accident, going approximately 8-10mph if that, vehicle pulled out in front of me, pressed brake, roads icy, and slid into vehicle which pulled out in front of me. Impact caused airbag to come out and broke my hand/wrist/arm in 3 places. I sit far enough back on purpose, the air bag only stuck my arm. I don't think I was going fast enough for the airbag to deploy at all. I am permanently disfigured and have limited function of my dominant hand now.

Air bag sing on. I talk to kia services they told me I have to pay $129 for just check up. My car millege only 80k. I feel not comfortable at all.

Another vehicle turned in front of me and my car impacted the other vehicles passenger side. There was no air bag deployment. My kia Sportage was declared totaled.

Traveling posted speed limit , car began to skid. Made a slight turn of steering wheel car began to rollover two or three times.

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Nissan quest. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph, the transmission slipped gears without warning. The failure recurred sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis, who informed that the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000. Js.

On April 12, 2013 I got into my 2000 kia Sportage to go to work. As soon as I got into the car I hit the windshield wipers to get the dew off of the windshield and instead of just going once they went off extremly fast with out stopping for about 45 seconds. Once I got them turned off I went up the road and turned to head to work via the back roads. I drove about 1 miles when out of the blue my windshield wipers started going off again then a second later I heard a loud bang and 2 of my airbags had deployed and I felt a throbbing pain in my right shin. The passanger airbag and the lower airbag on the driver side deployed. My car was the only car involved and has a clear carfax. The road I was driving on was smooth and I did not hit anything. The car had to be towed back to my house where it sits.

My daughter hit the rear of a large vehicle while driving my 2006 kia Sportage. The investigating officer and the body shop repairman both told me they had never seen a vehicle so heavily damaged fail to deploy its air bags. None of the air bags deployed. The vehicle was a total loss.

The contact owns a 2007 kia Sportage. On September 12, 2007, while driving 30 mph, the contact veered to the right and struck a parked vehicle. She then overcorrected to the left and her vehicle rolled over, slid to the opposite side of the street, and struck another parked vehicle. None of the air bags deployed. She suffered a head injury, which she is currently seeing a doctor for due to headaches. She stated that her entire body is sore and she can barely turn her neck. The vehicle is still being inspected. A police report is available. The current and failure mileages were 1,500.

During snow/ice weather conditions I lost control of my vehicle on 01/11/07 going straight on rt. 380 in stockton, NY. My vehicle rolled over, and landed front end down, upside down in a ditch. During the crash, none of the three air bags engaged/released. Because of the impact on the front end of my vehicle, think they should have released. No injury was done to myself, and no one was in my vehicle, but I was very lucky. Nothing needed to be done to correct this failure.

The contact stated at 15 mph airbags deployed for no reason. He did not run over anything. The vehicle has not been in an accident since he purchased it. He has tried contacting the local dealership, but every time he called he was placed on hold. Therefore, he has not had the vehicle repaired at this time.

I have a 2002 kia Sportage 2 door. We bought it brand new for our son thinking it would be a fun little car for him. 36,000 miles later it has been in the shop 15 times for various things such as air bag needing repaired to engine cooling system exploding on me in the middle of the dessert and me alone for 6 hours before I could get help. This SUV if you can call it that is nothing but a headache and I am very concerned about my sons or in fact anyone that is in it when it is on the roads safety.

Consumer states: the driver's air bags discharged while driving down the road, was slowing down for a stop light.

On April 24, 2005 columbus ohio had poor weather conditions ;snow and icy rain. I was traveling on s. R. 104 exiting on high st. I applied pressure to the brakes and fish tailed my 2001 kia Sportage. I hit the guard rail and the car rolled over. The front bumper had hit the guard rail and was actually off the car by the time I uprighted the vehicle again. The kia Sportage is equipped with 3 airbags;the front driver front passenger and a driver knee airbag, none of which deployed. The passenger side door was off the car as well when I uprighted, and again, none of the airbags, including the passenger side deployed. My 2 year old son was also in the car, in a carseat in the back passenger side. He thankfully suffered no injury, but that part of the car recieved the least damage.
