Lexus ES350 owners have reported 17 problems related to side/window air bag (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The passenger side airbag is being disabled by a defective sensor in the seat and Lexus is informing customers that they don't have the parts to fix the issue. Therefore, the passenger airbag is essentially permanently disabled. This is a serious concern since any person traveling in the front passenger seat will no longer have a working airbag.

My wife involved an accident when she was driving crossing an intersection in the city of pomona, CA. She was impacted by the crossing car on the driver's front and side plus the left rear passenger's side right behind the driver. The car was totaled, but none of the front and side airbags were deployed during the impact, which caused the left clavicle bone fracture, head injuries, and leg injuries to my wife. The car was confirmed to equip with side curtain airbags, and knee airbags.

Takata recall; it's been nearly 6 months since the recall notice for a car in zone a and my dealer is not able or willing to schedule airbag replacement of the passenger side airbag; the is an unreasonable delay.
Takata recall. Ln April 2011 we bought a 2011 Lexus e350 from, pohanka Lexus in chantilly (13909 lee jackson memorial hwy, chantilly, va 20151, pohankalexuschantilly. Com, (703) 968-9100). In September 2016 we received a e letter informing us of a dangerous condition requiring a recall and immediate repairs. The condition was that the passenger side air bag could explode during deployment and cause serious injury or death to vehicle occupants. Since then, we have called pohanka Lexus numerous time and all we get is the classic runaround that they are "working the problem. " that is not good enough. They should either fix this dangerous condition or give us a replacement vehicle of similar year, model and condition. The dealer has not repaired the vehicle.

2009 Lexus ES 350. Consumer writes in regards to passenger side air bag design issues. * smd the consumer stated the passenger air bag sensor, did not recognize her sitting in the seat. Over the years, the dealership has checked the sensor, calibrated the sensor, replaced the front passenger seat and sensor assembly and on the most recent visit, a Lexus engineer was called in to evaluate the problem. The consumer was informed the sensor was calibrated for a 70 pound load; however, due to a flaw in the passenger air bag system for this model year, it did no consistently sense a passenger weighing slightly above 100 pounds. The dealer stated they could not adjust the sensor below the 70 pound calibration point, or repair the problem in any other way.
Location: 605 north, before del amo blvd. Exit. At 5 pm on September 22, 2011 I was in the extreme left lane of the freeway, next to the carpool lane. A light gray truck (with flatbed) swerved right in front of me at a very high speed. There were just a couple feet of distance between the truck and my car. I slammed my brakes to avoid rear-ending the truck. A car behind me hit my car from rear right forcing me into the car pool lane. That's when a van that was in the car pool hit my car first on the rear left door and then rubbing against my car and delivering a huge impact on the driver side window. The impact was head-on and it did the following: 1. The driver-side window was smashed completely. The flying broken pieces of glass flew and delivered several injuries including bleeding on my left elbow, left hand near the wedding ring finger, on my head and on my right hand. 2. My car was thrown out of control across all the right lanes of the freeway. Luckily all other cars in the adjacent lanes had stopped by then and no other car hit my car when it was being thrown over to the right most lanes of the freeway. When my car ultimately stopped, it was half way in the 3rd and 4th lanes and was facing east wards and was perpendicular to the flow of traffic direction. None of the air bags activated. The car is equipped with side air bags and curtain air bags. None of them deployed. I sustained injuries on both hands and face. Also, I received internal injuries in neck and shoulder area.
T bone by a 4 runner, driver side door was severely damaged by the impact. 4runner front bumper came off from the impact. Broken glass every where causing minor cuts to the driver and passengers of the Lexus 08 Es350. Side and curtain airbags did not deploy. Minor injuries sustained on the driver and passengers on the Lexus 08 Es350.
The contact owns a 2008 Lexus Es350. While driving 40 mph, the contact's vehicle was struck on the driver's side by another vehicle. The side air bags failed to deploy. The front driver's side door was severely damaged, which should have activated the air bags. The contact sustained a black eye and head injury due to striking the exterior side mirror. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a shop for repairs. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 1,300.
My wife was driving our 2007 Lexus ES 350 when another vehicle heading in the opposite direction lost control, crossed a median divide, got airborne, and hit the front driver's side quarter panel, hood, drivers door and drivers window. No air bags deployed - including side air bags which are installed on this vehicle. We have contacted Lexus regarding what we believe is a failure of the air bags to properly deploy but am currently receiving 'form' responses.
I have a 2007 Lexus Es350 ultra luxury edition that was involved in an accident (a woman ran through a stop sign and broadsided me at about 35mph) this accident occurred on September 30th 2007, I contacted Lexus on October 1st 2007 to inform them that the airbags in this 2007 Es350 ultra luxury edition never deployed and that I didn't believe this to be a safe vehicle because I could not imagine what type of impact this vehicle would have to be subjected to for the airbags (side and side curtain) to deploy. I have called back into Lexus many many times, sent emails, and can only get the same standard answer, that it could take up to four to six weeks to get someone out to look at the car. I keep getting that standard answer but so far I haven't even gotten as much as a date from Lexus on when this person can come to inspect the car. I have tried to escalate this item with Lexus but no-one that I have spoken to would even allow me to speak with a manager or supervisor as per the Lexus people, this is at the highest level of awareness (I would hate to see how they handle something that is not important to them). I feel that I have no choice but to have my attorney contact the major news new s broadcaster and the highway and traffic control to inform them that this model is not safe and should not be allowed to be sold to the public since the airbags don't deploy when the car has major impact and could cause very serious injury. I was injured in my Es350 which is supposed to have ten airbags (my head stuck the a pillar) and reported this to Lexus and it seems that I am being ignored, I believe that I have been very patient and reasonable but that has gotten me nowhere, now I feel that the only way that Lexus will take this seriously is when a lawsuit is brought against them and this issue is made public.
