1 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 12/03/2007

As well as other 626's my transmission has blown. Was driving it, down the road, then the check engine light flashed about 7 times, and it revved, then went down and revved with the check engine light. Took it to aamco transmissions and they drove it and looked and told me that its shot. Of course this all happens after spending $1200 for a dealer only catalytic converter. Why would anyone buy this car knowing that they fall apart, and have dealer only parts!?.

2 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 10/11/2006

The contact owns a 2001 Mazda 626. On approximately November 22, 2007, while driving 60 mph, the check engine light illuminated. The dealer stated that the catalytic converter failed. The manufacturer agreed to pay half of the replacement cost for the catalytic converter. On approximately October 15, 2006, (15,000 miles later) the engine shut down and the vehicle was towed. The catalytic converter was replaced again. The contact requested information as to whether the catalytic converter was flawed. The dealer stated that this type of failure was rare and the cause could not be explained. The failure mileage was 69,000 and current mileage was 84,000.

3 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 05/06/2005

The engine light on my car has recently come on, and goes off periodically also. I took it to have the problem diagnosed and the mechanic said it was the the catalytic converter & O2 sensors on my 2001 626 4. 0 cylinder. He said the catalytic converter had to be bought from Mazda only and it was $672, and the 2 O2 sensors would be $416. 00 as well. . . . . Is there anyone else who've had these problems??? also, is there a warranty on the converter??.

6 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 01/04/2005

My transmission had to be replaced on my 2001 Mazda 626 this week. I had a previous problem with the internal coolant in 2003 which also cost me money. Last week I had to replace the catalytic converter. This car has given me nothing but problems since I've owned it. I do not feel the problems I've been having should occur in a 2001 automobile when regular maintenance is kept up.

7 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 08/25/2004

Vehicle: Mazda 626 2001. The engine light has kicked on numerous times while driving at a 35-40mph. Mechanics indicate that the code references the one of two problems- oxygen sensor defect or catalyst inefficiency. But, because the code is not specific as to which piece is defective the only recourse is to drive the vehicle and if the engine light turns off don't worry or bring the vehicle back if the light continues to stay on. I have continued to drive the vehicle and of course the light turns itself off. I return to the service station when the light turns back on. This problem has been occurring over a two month time span. I have not had any work done to "solve" the problem because no one knows what the problem may be. This is not a valid answer. The engine light would not activate if there is "no problem". Please provide assistance. If you are having this problem please file a complaint.

8 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1998 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 01/01/2004

I have spent over $2000 trying to get my engine light to turn off. Nothing works. Now I am being fined for not passing inspection. What is going on? I have been having this problem for 2 years. After various repairs the light would finally go off. Now it will not and has been on for over 6 months. I have had O2 sensor and cat sensor replaced, since that is supposedly what the code was. Still nothing and noone seems to care.

11 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 06/11/2001

About a year ago my engine check light came on. I took it to the Mazda dealer and they said the catalytic converter was bad. It was replace because it was still under warranty. Two months ago my check engine light came on again. I was again told that my catalytic conver was bad and it was again replaced. Today I was driving on the highway at about 75 miles per hour when my o/d light began to flash on and off. Five minutes later my car started to lose power. After pulling over to the side of the road my car would not change gears. It would not go forward or in reverse. I had it towed to the Mazda dealer and I was told that the transmission was bad and that it would take $2500. 00 to be replaced.

The catalytic converter has been on back-order to millenium Mazda dealer number 23836since 5-14-01. I have contacted Mazda customer assitance by letter and phone and there has been no response. 13 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1996 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 06/06/2000

I had many problems with this 626, Mazda from the day I drove it off the lot and I tried to get the company to take it back and they would give me lots of excuses and were not helpful. In the end I was told the air flow sensor was gone & I paid 300. 00 for repairs. 2 days later the car started having the same problem and had it towed in and the transmission was gone, catalytic converter needed replacing again and another part. I asked for a refund on the mass air flow sensor telling them that the o/d light had been coming on and I think that was the problem, but would not refund me for the cost. They then wanted 6000. 00 for it all and I told them, I have replaced so many parts on this car and tried to get you to take it back and they refused. I also asked if they would give me a credit towards another vehicle, since I was sold a lemon. They refused. I had to turn the car back in to the loan company. I could not afford to pay 6000. 00 for repairs and pay 350. 00 monthly . I was ahead on my payments too. Turned it in to the loan company and now my credit has been affected. Because of all the costly repairs that I had to do and make payments along with it all. I want some help and restiution in this situation.

14 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2000 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 01/01/2000

I own a 2000 Mazda 626 with only 90,000 miles. I have been stranded several times in this car and spent over $3000 parts and labor. I had to replace the catalytic converter, several sensors, master break cylinder, cv boots, and rack and pinion. Now I am having trouble with the transmission and the ac. The mechanic says I need to rebuild the trans and replace the ac compressor. This is another $3000 or more. I am very disappointed in this situation. I plead with you to take action on this. I have checked several web forums and found similar problems. Please, please make Mazda accountable for building such bad cars. Fyi, I am very, very diligent in general maintenance. Thanks for your time. Chris.
