O/d light flashes on and off at high speeds. Car starts smoking and transmission fluid flows out of a tube from the transmission. The transmission losses speed and begins slipping. Then check engine light comes on. I can only drive my car locally for fear of being stranded, as I have been several times.

Mazda 626 1998, transmission leaked and check engine light came on.
Transmission was slipping and fuel was leaking. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and dealer told him that transmission failed, and it needed to be repaired. Conumer stated that dealer told him it would cost approximately $3000. 00. Consumer was concerned because he did not have that many miles on vehicle. Also, check engine light came on and stayed on.
I have spent over $2000 trying to get my engine light to turn off. Nothing works. Now I am being fined for not passing inspection. What is going on? I have been having this problem for 2 years. After various repairs the light would finally go off. Now it will not and has been on for over 6 months. I have had O2 sensor and cat sensor replaced, since that is supposedly what the code was. Still nothing and noone seems to care.
In addition to smelling gas - the radio and antenna doesn't work. Now the sunroof won't close all the way. The check engine light comes on more often than not since I had the car. The key sometimes won't fit into door lock and even though the car looks brand new and has been well taken care off - it just seems to fall apart. The glove compartment lock fell apart but the biggest thing is the sunroof won't close all the way. This is my 3rd Mazda and I will never buy another one.

Continuous 3 cylinder misfire, resulting in the replacement of the plug wires and spark plugs 4 times since I have purchased the car in Sep 2003. The check engine light sporadically comes on and does not throw code. When the check engine light comes on the transmission "hard shifts" and I lose significant gas mileage.
The check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. Which caused the engine to lock up.
The engine is misfiring causing the check engine light to come on. The first two times I took the car in for this problem they replaced spark plugs and told me I was putting "bad gas" in the car; the third time they replaced a distributor cap, the fourth the ignition wires, the fifth the computer in the car, and now for the sixth attempt they are replacing valve one in the engine. The dealer has had my car for 31 days (21 business days) and as of yesterday, even after replacing the valve in the engine, the problem has still not been corrected. I've had a rental car for the 31 days they've had my car. I purchased the optional insurance because my insurance agent advised me to do so (what the rental company expects in the event of an accident is much higher than what an insurance company would pay. . . Therefore I would be responsible for the difference). Mazda refuses to pay for the insurance on the rental car which, considering the circumstances, I believe is unreasonable. I would like to exercise my lemon law rights, however my car had over 18,000 miles on it at inception of the problem and was 18 months old. My purpose in filing this complaint is to warn other consumers against the Mazda 626 as it has been nothing but trouble for me.

The check engine light illuminated on the dash board.
Intermittently the overdrive and check engine lights illuminate, when this happens the transmission does not change gears. Feel free to provide further information.
Loss of power during acceleration fron stop or at slow speed, engine light comes on durring failure.
Engine was running badly, engine and oil light came on. Dealer found engine had "sludged" up, had to replace engine. In October of 1999, transmission went out.
Consumer states vehicle has stalled numerous times, 2 times due to spillage from a cup that's in the cup holder, dealer installed a cover to protect pcm, vehicle has also stalled 3 other times with no explanation, possibly an electical problem, however check engine light was also illuminated, stalling could also be related to engine problem.
Recall 98v206001 done in June 1999, problems with vehicle ever since, timing chain replaced a second time in October 2000. Currently vehicle is shaking, catalytic converter was replaced, dealer thought that was the problem, engine light still on, timing chain needed to be replaced a third time.
Consumer stated that while driving the vehicle began riding rough, shaking, and stalling, and then the engine light came on, consumer was then informed that all was needed was a tune-up, throttle cleaned and an airflow meter, however once repairs were made, consumer began to experience stalling again.
As a result of a crash while traveling at 60 mph air bags did not deploy. Consumer also states transmission went out and had to be rebuilt, the engine light stays on , cv joints are also faulty, also vehicle was in an accident consumer hit a deer.
August 26, 2003 the Mazda was in an auto accident. Approximately 2 weeks before the accident the Mazda started stuttering. We had the Mazda put on computer and was told it needed new sensor. The check engine light continue to go on and off. Immediately before the accident the Mazda started stuttering and lost speed and that led to not being able to keep speed up and when we entered the traffice light it turned yellow then while we were under it it turned red and we were hit on the passenger side. Sept 26, 2003 I am approximately 115 miles from home the over drive light starts flashing and I lose speed again the engine is smoking. The car is towed back to charleston, SC where I live. I had to spend 3hrs at a rest area all alone with my 15 yr old daughter. This is the exact rest area were a woman was murdered 2 years ago. We were scared to death. The check engine light is back on. I am on my way to the Mazda dealership today for estimate. I think Mazda has a major problem in putting out lemons not cars. I want and will join class act lawsuit.
The engine light illuminated and the vehicle stalled.
