The transmission has been replaced twice now. Even after we get it fixed it stills jerks and sounds like the engine is going to fall out. It has a terrible time shifting from 1st to 2nd and sometimes when you put it in reverse it jumps and sounds like it is going to fall out. My dad is 94 years old and needs this car to work. He doesn't need to go out and buy another one or spend another $1800 or so to get this one fixed. I have read a lot of complaints about this car and the transmission and I feel Mazda needs to make it right.

While commuting, the car stopped shifting. Took it to mechanic--they fixed a leak in the transmission fluid-- car was then shifting hard, took to transmission shop--they diagnosed two problems that caused the leak. The transmission is not effectively pushing the fluid through the system, and was very dangerous on the road when it stopped shifting.

Purchased used Mazda 262, year 2000, that happened to have original known-faulty cd4e. Car now inoperable after less than a thousand miles after leaving the lot. Occasional acceptable operation, interspersed with transmission slipping/losing gear/no power, nearly caused a rear-end accident going uphill on freeway.

I purchased a 2000 Mazda 626 used in 2001. I took the car in for repairs to the cincinnati jake sweeny Mazda shop to address the shaking and noises that I was hearing from the front and rear of the vehicle. I was told that the car was okay the motor mounts were fine and that the noise was from a bottle of aspirin in the glove box. The noise continued and other shops continued to inform me that my motor mounts were bad. I was again informed by the repair shop that the car was fine. The vehicle now has 140,000 miles on it and the motor mounts, sway link bar and struts are all shot to heck. I am very disappointed being that this issue was addressed when the car was under warranty and the dealership neglected to fix the problem which now has escalated.
2002 626 piston rings failed due to a manufacturing defect per the mechanic. There was scaring found on the cylinder walls also pistons lower compression ring failed. The consumer noticed the engine was starting to run hot. The consumer was told she needed a new overflow coolant bottle because it was cracked along the seam. The consumer was also told the vehicle needed a new cv boot.
The consumer stated while accelerating the transmission slipped. There was a slight chattering noise. Once the vehicle was in gear it worked correctly. A local mechanic changed the spark plugs and the wires. Also, checked the cv joints and they were fine. The mechanic had not looked at the transmission. He eliminated all of the other things first. This has been happening for about three or four months. (11/17/05) the mechanic suggested that the automatic transmission was the problem.
Engine and transmission both faulty. Engine did not reverse, soon after engine exploded.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning smoke was coming from underneath the vehicle.

Transmission failure had to be replaced, overdrive light constantly flashing, dealers stated was oxygen sensor replaced both sensors, problem not solved, replaced transmission replaced several days later with another, first replacement was defective.
Since I purchased my car used from corporate motors in sacramento, calif. I always thought the transmission was slipping at 18k, this was my first one so I just figured that's how automatics drove, wrong? air conditioning went out around 30k. I've spent well over $2500 repairing the vehicle transmission wise, and now the pump is going out. I have been told the pump just can't be replaced, I will have to get another transmission, either rebuilt or a new one. I am letting it get to the point that it will drive in a dealership and never come home with me again.
I have been having so many problems with my Mazda 626 and it's a 2001. The times that I have taken it in the shop that would tell me that nothing is wrong with my car, but of course I know my car better I do drive it more than they have too. What I discovered just today is off the map funny(like something is not right), was dealing with my odometer reading. So if I can please allow me your help before my give out on me. Thank you mrs. Jackson.
