The infotainment system has a known "ghost touch" issue. This issue caused a recall in prior models but that recall was not extended to current models. This is an extremely dangerous issue. The screen will turn on loud blasting music, randomly call people, turn off gps, etc. At any given time. This has happened while I am driving at high speeds on the highway and has nearly gotten me into accidents. This is very concerning. I have reached out to Mazda and they acknowledge it is a known issue but claim it is not a safety issue. I have read multiple forums about this issue and the dangers it poses as it is well documented that distracted driving is incredibly dangerous. This has put multiple people at risk. Imagine accidentally calling your boss when you are driving, realizing the car is doing that when you are driving on an unknown route at high speeds. It is incredibly distracting and dangerous in the moment. Likewise, I have been on a call and the call is repeatedly put on hold or the screen has changed and it is incredibly distracting. Mazda claims this is not a safety issue however, the research is clear that distracted driving is a danger to the driver, passengers, and others on the road. Please conduct an inquiry into this issue. I am happy to provide my car for inspection or to share further information. The issue has been diagnosed and it is known, however the company refuses to issue a recall or pay for repairs.

Touch screen malfunctions, causing actions to take place without being touched. The phone randomly hangs up or randomly calls people. The gps moves the cursor away from the car making it impossible to follow directions. The radio will go to full volume. The screen will change settings randomly. This is very distracting and dangerous, makes drivers more likely to get in an accident. The touch screen itself is rarely used and has never been damaged. This problem has been reported on many Mazda forums and there has been a recall for the touch screen for the years up to 2017, but the 2018 models have the same screens and are also experiencing "ghost touching". Dealers are charging $1200 to replace. Later models also need to be recalled.
Unknown - a few months ago, I started to have an issue when turning off the vehicle. After putting the vehicle in park and pressed to turn off the vehicle, the radio/gps screen would stay on and a warning message stating the car must be in ‘p’ark. I would restart the car, put it in neutral, turned it off, but the same message kept popping up and would beep at me when trying to close the door. I jiggle the stick multiple times and tried different ways to turn off the car, now taking as many as 10 times before the radio/gps screen turns off and the message goes away. I made an appt with the closest dealer, but I have to wait for 4 weeks for the car to be inspected & corrected. This seem like a safety hazard not knowing if the car is actually in park and turned off so the battery doesn’t drain. There should be a recall issued by Mazda to correct this issue as many people have posted the same problem over many years.

There is a current lawsuit/settlement stating that there are known issues with the Mazda connect infotainment system having technical glitches. I own a 2019 Mazda cx5 and have been having issues with the Mazda connect pressing random buttons, drastically increasing the volume, the carplay disconnecting while I'm following gps directions, among other technical issues while I am driving. These are extremely dangerous issues while operating a vehicle and many Mazda owners are experiencing the same issues. With the limited extended warranty, I brought my vehicle into a Mazda service center to get the issue resolved. Although there are issues with the Mazda connect infotainment system, they claimed that the issue is not covered under the warranty and I need to purchase a new screen repair kit which would cost $608+tax. I believe they are trying to get out of repairing the issue and the repair kit they are recommending should be covered as well. A recall should be made to cover these issues.

The infotainment system ghost touches on its own. It changes all car settings by itself. Active driving display, safety features like distance recognition, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, etc. Every setting available in the infotainment system gets changed or reset on it own. Even when you turn it off. It turns back on. Gps routes, dials people, hangs up, mutes on its own, etc. Mazda dealership says it’s out of warranty and I would have to pay out of pocket to fix it. However it is an ongoing issue where now there is a class action lawsuit.
The gps installed in this auto frequently doesn't work. Often when it boots up, but also often it loses location while driving. You can detect this if it puts you into an absurd place, like the middle of the ocean. But often it puts you on a road where you aren't. This is definitely a safety problem. Dealer cannot fix.
