2 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2008 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 01/04/2015

On Sunday, January 4, 2015, I was driving my 2008 Mazda Cx-7 and I stopped at a stoplight. When I tried to take off when the light turned green, my car hesitated and when I pressed on the gas peddle a little more, it still hesitated then finally took off. All of a sudden, I heard an extremely loud popping noise, and then thick, heavy white smoke started to come out of the tailpipe. The white smoke then started flowing out from under the hood, and it started to come into the car through the air vents. When I tried to pull over and put the car in park, it wouldn't shift into gear, so I pushed the parking break, and it finally stopped. I got out of the car and when I went to grab my purse, I saw fire coming through the bottom air vents ( the ones that blow air on your feet) so I grabbed my purse as quickly as I could, and ran away from the car. Then, I saw part of the engine fall out of the bottom of the car, on fire, and burn into the street. About 5 seconds later, the whole entire car burst into flames. All of the doors were closed, but the intensity of the fire blew both of the passenger side doors open, and blew out all of the windows (including the sunroof, which was closed at the time). When the firefighters finally put the fire out, the car was still smoldering and everything inside was melted. The steering wheel, the seats, the door handles, the mirrors, everything. The fire was so strong that it blew the hood back onto the windshield. All that is left of the car, is just the metal frame, and the engine. The car has a 4 cylinder engine with a turbo feature on it. I believe that that is what caused the fire and made the loud popping sound initially.

3 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 06/17/2014

Would like to make a complaint about my vehicle. I was stopped at a light and heard a clicking sound as I tried to accelerate when light turned green. Vehicle died at the light. Vehicle was towed to a mechanic. Timing chain stretched and broke which caused damage to the engine and valves. Vehicle has been in the shop for more than four weeks! my approximate cost will be $3500, but price can go up since mechanic has yet to complete the work. Have read many similar complaints about the timing chain and vvt with this make and model on the internet. Many vehicles have broken down on the highway. Even after my vehicle is repaired, I do not feel safe driving it. I will trade it in (not another Mazda) as soon as it is repaired. It is unfortunate that Mazda is aware of this problem but has not made effort to recall the Mazda cx7.

7 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 05/13/2013

While driving on the highway I heard a ticking noise after a few seconds later the car lost power and smoke came out of the exhaust. When I pulled over I took the cover off from the engine and noticed that there was oil coming out from where the top of the oil goes. The oil pressure on the block was compromised due to failure of the turbo. When taken to the roger beasley Mazda dealership and the car was cranked the dip stick shot out from the engine. The dealership indicated that there was carbon build up but could not explain why. The car was towed to another acs certified mechanic and confirmed that the engine failure was due to the failure of the turbo. Before taking the trip on 4-18-2013 I took my car the Mazda of mesquite dealership because I heard a ticking noise and the technician indicated that the noise was normal. Also the technician performed msp 36 reflashed pcm with updated software and cleared all fault codes since there was a recall. Three weeks later the engine goes out. The manufacture warranty expired, but have a in service warranty. The in service warranty agency denied the claim indicating that it was not normal wear and tear of the engine failure. I contacted the dealership and also emailed the manufacture to express my concern and both agencies directed me back to the in service warranty. Both the dealership and in service warranty are not willing to assist in the cost being that the cx7 model is a lemon in my opinion. There have been many claims against this model by other consumers in which was confirmed by the employees at the georgetown roger beasley Mazda dealership. The employees indicated that the cx7 model has a lot of problems that is why the cx5 replaced the cx7 model. Since the claim was denied I have spent over 1000 which does not include any repairs, on a side note I was 300 miles away from home.

8 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 08/22/2012

My Mazda began making a clanging sound at ignition. I took the Mazda to sussman Mazda in abington, PA. I was told that thought the warrant 5 yrs/60,000 miles had expired. However, Mazda had extended the warranty on the vvt actuator and timing chain due to this being a know problem. I was asked to produce all maintenance records on the car. I did not have every single service record and was denied repair by Mazda. I called the Mazda corporate office and spoke with a representative. The representative told me that my claim was denied. I asked to speak with a supervisor but I was denied. I called back and was told that a supervisor would call me back on 08/30/12. It is 10pm and no one has called me back. It appears that Mazda is doing everything possible not to repair a known defect on the Mazda cx7. There are numerous complaint online of many cx7 owners going through the same situation that I have. I cannot drive the car due to fear off the timing chain failing.

9 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 04/15/2012

After owning our 2007 Mazda Cx-7 for over 5 years, we received an extended warranty notice that the timing chain was defective and at risk of breaking. Having noticed a slight ticking noise already, we immediately took it to the dealership where it was purchased. They examined it and notified us that even though our car was 5 years old and at risk of failure due to a factory defective part, the warranty was only extended to 70,000 miles and Mazda would not cover any costs since our odometer was at 80,000. I went home, did some online research, and discovered that our year and make of vehicle also had a TSB from Mazda for a defective timing vvt actuator that could cause the same clicking sound. We had never been notified of this by Mazda or the dealership. I called Mazda customer care immediately and they assured me that the timing chain was the source of the clicking noise. Two weeks later the vvt actuator in question did fail. Mazda assumed liability and replaced the defective vvt assembly and timing chain, but refuse to cover any of the costs to repair the severe damage caused to our engine as the direct result of this part failure.

10 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 04/13/2012

My 2007 Mazda Cx-7 starting making a popping noise and began losing power on April 13, 2012. I drove my car to the dealership and was told that the timing chain and turbo charger are bad and need to be replaced. My car has 80,477 miles on it and therefore, nothing is covered under warranty and I cannot produce all oil change receipts. Thus, it is going to costs me $3,000 to get fixed. I am very disappointed in Mazda for not fixing a defect that they are clearly aware of, regardless of the mileage! I never received a recall letter and I have been a loyal Mazda customer, purchasing 5 Mazda's over the last 12 years! I travel with my job so I do put a lot of miles on a vehicle (averaging 2,000 miles per month) but I find it utterly ridiculous that a car has major defects at 80,000 miles! please help and stop Mazda from taking advantage of consumers!.

11 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 01/11/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Mazda cx7. The contact started the ignition and a loud clunking noise emitted from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the faulty variable valve timing would need to be replaced. The manufacturer mailed a notification, which indicated that the replacement of the variable valve timing would be free of charge; however the vehicle was ineligible because it exceeded the 70,000 mileage requirement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

12 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

I own a 2007 Mazda Cx-7, which I purchased in Nov. 2006, brand new. Over the past 2 years, I have heard a tapping noise coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle. Twice in the past 9 months, the vehicle lost complete power. I asked Mazda to check the vehicle and they stated that it was common, nothing to worry about. In January of 2012, I received a safety notice from Mazda in regards to a possible defect part, v. V. T. Component and a loose timing chain. I took my vehicle to the Mazda dealership, who advised me that my vehicle contained this defective part, but stated that they were not going to repair the defective component due to the lack of receipts for oil changes and other maintenance records. The reason for the lack of receipts is because my brother-in-law, who is a mechanic, performed the oil changes and other maintenance work to the vehicle. I asked Mazda if the defective part could be hazardous and they advised me it was not harzardous or dangerous. Approx. 3 weeks ago, my wife ordered the necessary parts and paid for them in full. After 3 weeks, I was advised that the parts or not available. After reading numerous websites and complaints from Cx-7 owners, this is happening across the country. I further read that if the v. V. T. Component fails while the vehicle is being operated, the engine will immediately cease, possibly causing the operator the inability to safely manveur the vehicle off the roadway. In my opinion, this is a danger to the occupants of the Mazda Cx-7 and other motorists. I have not heard of any accidents being reported as a result of the defective part, but I feel that Mazda is not taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the motorists. I feel that the matter should be taken care of by Mazda before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

13 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

My car (which I bought in Aug. Of 2010) started making a loud tapping noise and 2 days later it just quit on me, I was pulling out of the parking lot were I work so thank god I wasn't on a major street or anything because it just turned off out of the blue. I had to get help to push it in a parking space and it's been sitting there for the last week because I have no money to go find out what is wrong with it. The warranty has expired now so I'm not sure of what to do since this seems to be an ongoing thing with these cars, not just mine.

14 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 08/03/2010

2007 Mazda Cx-7 begin making loud clicking noise in August 2010. Took vehicle to repair facility and was told the engine needed to be replaced soon, timing chain was loose, and two engine modules were giving faulty readings. Got a 2nd opinion from a Mazda certified tech with same advice. Have all repair and maintenance regards to show that it was not a result of vehicle neglect. Vehicle has 79,000 miles on it and has been used for primarily highway travel. Also had an issue with compressor which I had to replace at my own cost.

15 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 06/26/2010

I recently bought a used Mazda Cx-7 grand touring edition vehicle. I bought it on November 8, 2008 with 18,000 miles on it. After owning it for a year and a half I was driving to work one morning when I heard a pop and clanking sound. I continued to drive until my car started losing power however I managed to make it to work. No lights came on, nothing. My husband came that morning to drive the car to the mechanic and within 2 miles all the dash lights came on and the car lost all power. It was towed to grappone Mazda in concord nh for what I thought would be warranty work since we were still under the warranty. We were told to produce all service records which we did, and they found some gaps, however, never over the recommended 7500 miles that they recommend for an oil change. Our warranty coverage was denied twice. To this day, we still don't know what is wrong with our engine. There have been suggestions and also we've been told that the turbo definitely went. We obtained a carfax to see what was done to the car before we owned it and found out the turbo had been replaced before we bought the car when it was only a year old with 18,000 miles on it. Mazda is refusing to work with us on this and have left us without a car now for 2 months.
