I have a 2007 Mazda cx7, my vehicle has 71,000 miles I have noticed a rattling noise for the past few months. I visit three mechanics and all three mechanics are telling me it's the vvt timing chain. The cost the repair my vehicle is $3,000 to $4,000 dollars. I contact the Mazda dealer and because I have no warranty I have to pay out of pocket. So I begin to do my research online. I realized that there are hundreds of other Mazda cx7 owners that are having the same issues as I. What a coincidence Mazda has discontinued manufacturing the Mazda cx7. This is a manufacture issue and Mazda needs to own up for it. Hundreds of people are losing their vehicles due to this vvt timing chain issue and Mazda needs to make this a re-call. I know one thing I hope and pray nothing happens to me while driving my vehicle because I will not hesitate to file a lawsuit against the Mazda corp. I hope someone can help all of us who are current owners of Mazda cx7. I will use social media to spread awareness.

While on a freeway off-ramp car started to idle irregularly accompanied by white smoke and a loud whining noise. Identified problem as a/c compressor. Turned off air conditioning; smoke and whining seemed to stop, and I was able to drive it the 15 miles to my mechanic.

On 8/31/14 I noticed a rattling noise when I accelerated as well as a whining noise. The noise was intermittent and did not occur all the time, but was a distinct noise coming from underneath the vehicle. I had not had any check engine lights illuminated or any other warning lights. I brought my vehicle into my local Mazda dealership and they advised it was the turbo and in order access appropriately they would need to tear down the engine. After reading online there are numerous documented issues with turbos, vvt timing chains and engine issues with Mazda cx7. The shop called me back 2 days after I dropped it off and said I would need to replace the turbo & I need a new engine. They also stated since there was oil sludge present that I would be responsible for $9000 costs. I provided the dealership my oil change receipts including the last oil change that was done in June. My car was still within 3000 miles and was not due a oil change, however the owners manual stipulates recommended changes every 7000 miles!! the dealership advised that when I brought it in no oil was in the dipstick and because there was sludge Mazda is denying my powertrain warranty (which is still active) due to not maintaining the vehicle. This is absurd, I have maintained my vehicle and Mazda is using this as an excuse to not be responsible for a obvious defect in their vehicle!!! there are many documented instances about this same scenario happening with others all over the internet, this issue is a result of a defective turbo and not due to lack of maintenance. Mazda extended turbos and vvt timing chain issues to 7 years because of this same scenario for 2007-2010 Mazda cx7s but when I asked about ssp 86 im being told my vehicle does not qualify. I would like to know why Mazda can get away with not abiding to their warranty and request this be investigated. Thank you.

Vehicle started making a loud whining noise while driving at 55mph. White smoke started pouring out of rear end. We thought the car was on fire. It then wouldn't get over 20mph. Pulled over and called a tow truck.
Tl - the contact owns a 2010 Mazda cx7. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, he heard a loud whining noise and was unable to accelerate the vehicle. The contact also stated that the turbo failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the turbo needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 50,100. Mah.
I drove 200 miles stopped the car to get something to eat, when I restarted it a loud whistling noise came from engine and wouldn't stop. Called roadside assistance and it was towed 2 days later because it happened on a Saturday night. It took 3days for it to be fixed and I'm not sure it is running properly. I also had the timing chain replaced at 60,000 miles. I will never buy another Mazda.
While driving on interstate highway, loud ticking and whirring sound came from engine. Black smoke came from rear tailpipes and white smoke from under the hood. Vehicle lost power and stopped.
My husband was driving home when he suddenly heard a loud whining noise then lost power. On the way to the dealer, he noticed it was smoking.
After six months, we began to have mechanical issues with the vehicle. A diesel-sounding chug coming from the engine seemed off for an unleaded four-cylinder SUV. The common issue seemed to be a part called a vvt actuator. No recalls or service advisories had been issued for engine parts at this time. However, in January 2012, an entire half-decade after the vehicle rolled off the assembly line, we received a ‘variable valve timing noise and timing chain noise warranty extension’ notice by mail from Mazda. A month or so after we received the notice, the vehicle began leaking oil. We took our vehicle into a roger beasley Mazda center and had it examined. The oil cooler on the vehicle was beginning to fail. We explained the notice that we received in the mail and they were already well aware of these issues. We were told the engine had engine sludge and with it being a second-owner vehicle, we did not have the documentation to prove that regular oil changes had been performed. Instead, all repairs and replacements would come from our own pockets. The result ended up being a need to replace the vvt actuator, the timing chain, the oil cooler, and replacing all of the gaskets. The technician showed us a side-by-side of the current timing chain and the new replacement – the used chain had literally stretched to be about half-an-inch longer than the replacement. We drove off the lot and hoped that the problems had been solved. Within two months of the repairs, the engine began making a high-pitched whining noise. My wife contacted the dealership that day while at work and they said to bring it in. On the way to the dealership, which is less than ten miles away, the vehicle died on the freeway. This ended up being the result of a blown turbocharger. Again, we had to take money from our nest egg to replace yet another part on this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2007 Mazda Cx-7. The contact stated that the engine was started and a rattling noise was heard from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the variable valve timing actuator failed and would need replacing. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 69,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Mazda Cx-7. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph with the air conditioner activated, the vehicle was making a banging and rattling sound. The contact stated the sound was also heard when the turbo was activated. The failure would occur with or without the air conditioner activated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 14.

I purchase the Mazda cx7 on March 20 2010. Within 3 weeks I notice a rattling noise from the engine when start up the car. I took it to 2 different local Mazda dealers over 8 times since purchase and they replaced 3 motor mount but the problem still exist. This year I took it to the dealer twice and they refused to fix it. They wouldn't even schedule an appointment to look at my car. My car is still under warranty. I took my car to 2 different certified mechanics and they both acknowledge that the rattling noise does exist. I need help fixing this problem. I read online and saw lots of complaint about this problem. Some were able to get it resolve but they wouldn't fix my issue.
