While driving home from work 8/23/12, my husband noticed that the a/c was not cooling and that the engine started making a squealing noise. He stated that the a/c compressor was failing. Fortunately for us, he made it home safely. If it failed completely while driving, the car (or he) could have died in the middle of the interstate. We had received the extended warranty notice for the a/c compressor. So, we took it to our local Mazda dealership/service department for repair. The technician stated that we had just exceeded our warranty coverage. Our vehicle turned 5 years old on 6/30/12 and has 60,598 miles. He stated that we would have to contact the Mazda corporate office to request assistance. The corporate representative stated that they would contact our dealership and take the matter under review. She stated that if they denied the claim there was no one else at Mazda that would discuss this with us. I agree with other complaints filed to date. . . Apparently, someone will have to be killed before anyone issues a recall.
My wife and I have a 2007 Mazda cx 7 with 68000 miles on it. On August 13th my wife was driving with my 9 month old daughter and noted a funny sound with loss of air conditioning or change of quality of air conditioning. She reported smoke and noise that followed. Luckily she was on a back road and close to her destination and was able to arrive at the destination without having to drive far. She phoned me and gave me the news and I immediately knew it was the air conditioning compressor. This is due to research I have done that the Mazda cx 7 from 2007 is notorious for the air conditioning compressor seizing up. Luckily my wife was aware of this issue and parked the car and had it towed to a local mechanic to be repaired. In the meantime, I had emailed Mazda and reported the issue, the part had the warranty extended to 60000 miles, so I was already irritated to know that this happened 8000 miles outside of warranty on a part Mazda already knew was defective. They have yet to respond to my email and that was already more than a week ago. The car is repaired now and not by a Mazda dealership as I refuse to give them anymore of my money. I am very displeased with the lack of customer service and lack of ownership by this company over an issue with this part they clearly know exhists. This part is clearly defective and dangerous and should have been recalled and replaced. I think it is ridiculous that they extended a warranty, but will not just replace a defective part they produced that could cause personal harm and danger to not only the owners of this car, but other people on the road around it.
My wife was on her way home when there was a funny buzzing or squealing noise comming from under the hood of her 07 Mazda cx7. She pulled over and there was smoke coming from her right front tire area. She then had to call our insurance roadside assistance to have it towed to our local service repair shop. Later we found that the ac compressor was seazed and the belt was melted. After further reasearch upon this matter I am finding that there is an astonishing number of other people that have had the same issue. Come to find out Mazda is telling people that this is a known issue and to come in and pay $1500- $2500 to have the defective part replaced. This is unacceptable!!!!! my wife is on the side of the freeway at rush hour waiting for a tow truck and Mazda could have had this issue resolved. . . How many other people have to be put into dangerous situations before Mazda steps up and takes care of a known problem. .
Mazda sent a letter to report a known issue with the 2007 and 2008 Cx-7 in August 2010. The a/c compressor was creating issues and Mazda extended the warranty to 60,000 miles. The letter indicated that no action was needed unless you heard a strange "noise". Based on my experience and those of others, the problem occurs with no warning and all of a sudden the a/c stops working and smoke begins to come from under the hood. The issue can also cause the power steering to go out and the car to stall so how can this not be a safety concern and not be considered a recall? the warranty is only extended to 60,000 miles and there are many cases where the problem does not occur until after 60,000 miles. Is Mazda just hoping that most will happen after 60k so they don't have to pay for the repair? I had the dealer check it during a routine service but they wouldn't repair it unless there was a "noise". While on vacation, my car a/c stopped working and started to make the "noise". Then smoke started to come out from under the hood, frightening my kids in the car. We were traveling on the interstate at the time and had to find a safe place to pull aside. We barely made it to the nearest mechanic before the belt broke. My car had 65,000 miles and Mazda will not pay for the cost of the repair, nor the cost to rent a car in its place. Now I am out almost $1,700 for repairs and rental fees. This issue needs to be investigated. Does someone have to die in an accident as a result for Mazda to be held accountable?.
While driving home with my a/c on, my 2007 Mazda cx7 began making a terrible whining & griding sound, followed by billows of smoke coming from under the hood. I immediately pulled off the road, turned off the car and opened the hood, which continued to smoke for some time and there was a smell of burning rubber. I burned my hand in the process. The car was deemed unsafe and undriveable and had to be towed back to the nearest Mazda dealer where we had also purchased the vehicle. It was late at night, so ,the next morning I received a call from the dealer telling me the fire started with the a/c compressor, which then ignited the drive belt. That's why it smelled so awful. He said it was "burned badly". The parts were not in stock, so, they have to order new parts. So, I'm without transporation. No offer from the dealer for a rental. They also did not tell me that there was a recall on 2007 Mazda cx7 a/c compressors, which I learned about by online research. I never received a letter from Mazda regarding the recall. So, it turns out that many, many people are experiencing the same issue and not enough is being done about it to fix the problem. The car has less than 30k miles and recently had a full inspection by the dealer. I'm now waiting to find out if the dealer will try to get me to pay for this or if they will honor the warranty. Many online complaintants are being denied and are being forced to pay for this themselves. This is not right.
2007 Mazda Cx-7 - a/c compressor went out (mileage 43,090 and out of warranty) on way to work on 1/4/11 around 7:30am. My car started making loud noises from the engine the day before but their were no warning signs in my car. On my way to work a lot of white smoke from my tale pipes started coming out and the noise got louder along with a burning smell and then my battery light came on and my car cut off while I was on the highway. I was lucky to coast off to the side of the road. $1250 to replace parts/tow and labor. Seems this is a known issue with Mazda because I have been on a lot of forums where tons of people are having the same issue. Mazda on rt. 42 south jersey NJ didn't mention this was a known issue. Many customers have had this happen multiple times. Some within the 36k btb warranty, some after. With this being a known issue, shouldn't this be a recall if it is a problem that will occur on most 2007 Cx-7's with the part?.
Was returning to California from arizona when car started making an awful noise. I suspected it was the a/c compressor as I had read about their failures online. I had just passed the 60,000 mile extended coverage period, however my Mazda dealer was able to get Mazda to cover 95% of the charges. I was not happy that I had to pay anything at all, but I feel fortunate that Mazda threw me a bone. Others have not been so lucky. Mazda should compensate them.
I have a 2008 Mazda cx7 with 60,000 miles. My ac compressor just went out. First noticed a slight squealing noise which I thought might be a loose belt. The next day I noticed a strong smell like burning rubber. Car seemed to drive fine. Two days later I finally got it checked out and was told it was the compressor and needed to be replaced. I didn't get it fixed right away but they did tell me I shouldn't wait too long cause of possible lock up and belt breaking. Later that night when I turned on the car there was a squealing sound and lights went crazy and didn't want to start. I turned it off then tried again. It barely started that time. The very next morning it did the same thing and I drove it straight to be fixed. Went he mechanic turned the car on to move it finally locked up and wouldn't start. I did not have it repaired at the dealership because everyone says it's more expensive. The place that fixed it gave me two options of fixing. Just the ac compressor or the compressor, expansion valve and receiver dryer. They told me I could just do the compressor which is what I did.

I have my 2007 Mazda for a year and it has been at the dealership for 1/2 the time I've owned it . It is the worst vehicle that Mazda could have made it needs to be recalled because of numerous problem someone is going to lose there life. I have had so many things done to my vehicle actuator 2 oil on the engine, turbo went out, timing belt , tie rod broke and tire came off and hit a truck, air conditioning went out , the list can go on and on just got it back after being repaired and it has to go back to the shop on Friday this is the worst car in the world it is a lemon Mazda should be shame of themselves for selling this piece of crap.
2007 Mazda cx7, broken air compressor at 30000 miles which destroys serpentine belt and risks overheating engine, causing burning smell and eventually smoke. Problem is not unique to me and my vehicle having read the internet for numerous similar reports from others.
2008 Mazda Cx-7 air compressor failed at 42,000 miles while driving down the road a few days ago. Appears to be a well known issue with the 2007 and the 2008 Mazda Cx-7 models that were built in '07 (as is the case with my '08). Mazda needs to take responsibility and recall the 2007 and 2008 Mazda Cx-7 and replace the air compressor. Luckily, I was able to turn the a/c off and drive my car to safety. Not everyone has been that fortunate. This could have been a horrific issue had I been traveling at a high rate of speed with small children in the car. This is not just an a/c issue. Once the compressor on the Mazda Cx-7 fails, there are a limited # of miles the car can travel until there are engine issues - even with the a/c turned off - will still cause engine problems if not fixed immediately.
Mazda cx7 2007 issue with the ac compressor/ condensor.
2007 Mazda Cx-7 had failure of the air conditioner compressor. Bearings freeze up in the compressor unit. This causes pulley to stop turning and putting pressure on the drive belt. This causes car to overheat and battery to lose charge because alternator and water pump are not spinning. They do not spin because the drive belt slips over them because air conditioner pulley has seized up. This happens around 34,000 miles and generally within months of the expiration of the 36 month warranty. Internet research shows that this is a known problem to Mazda. Mazda refuses to cover repair under power train warranty as it is not an essential part - even though the car become undriveable.
After driving roughly 38,000 miles, my Mazda Cx-7's a/c started to have problems. It stopped blowing cold air and started to make a grinding sound. While I was driving to a place to figure out what was wrong with my car, a burning smell began to arise. It was eventually found that the compressor needed to be replaced and there were metal parts in the compressor. This caused huge damages to the car and it was estimated to cost roughly $17,000 in damages. It has yet to be fixed, but the car has only been driven for 38,000 miles and had regular maintenance intervals. There was almost no indication of what was happening because I did not turn on the a/c often.
The clutch went out on the air conditioner compressor. Called Mazda apparently it is a known and common problem. Mazda quoted about a $1,000 fix. $30,000 pos!.
I'm mexican woman . The first of August 2010 to go on the road (towards the city of queretaro, mexico, in a van Mazda cx 7 2008 model first and let the air conditioning running, then started to smoke the driver's side, suddenly the short time stopped the car and when we got off shore and we saw that was on fire, stopped the fire and water damage, according to the agency are of 46 thousand pesos as two months ago that ended our warranty does not want to be responsible for the incident . We were all family, including my sun of four years, I think that could had passed if the car had exploded, we took gasoline 30 minutes previous to the fire . I've gotten a number of forums to investigate complaints and there are scores equal to that of the same model. There are others in the cx 9 that even if you already acknowledged that the agency is also a risk of fire trucks were summoned ac. In our case say it is for use and is not factory defect nothing, not even now deny that the problem is in the air conditioning compressor and this was what we had said now say it's pulleys. Honestly I'm desperate, I want to help, see qe many people have had this problem and is not fair is very expensive and especially djando the money was really terrible, I was shocked muchisimo feared for our lives and I think that is a very serious matter and are not taking well. Please I need help. The only thing I'm told by phone Mazda customer service in mexico is that there is nothing to do and there is no instance where to turn, this scares me a lot I can not believe it.
I was on my way to work, when all the sudden my car started flowing massive amount of smoke from the passenger side of my car. I was driving on the highway when my car stopped working. Thank fully there was no accident or injuries. I called a tow truck to get off the road and back to the dealer. Telling me that my a/c compressor went. Costing about 2000$ to fix!. After some investigation, I realized this is a huge problem with 07' and 08' Mazda Cx-7 cars. I believe Mazda fixed the problem on newer Cx-7s but completely ignored the older models. Please help me fix this!.
I own a 2007 Mazda cx 7,with 40,000 miles on it. I have taken it in to the dealership multiple times for the ac. I had been told it was normal and fine. Last night I was driving home from work when someone on the road informed me that my car was smoking. My husband came to where I was at and found out that my ac compressor had locked up causing my car to not run. Took it to the dealer they say it may not be covered as it is not a powertrain issue. As far as I am concerned, it is. Without the ac compressor the car will not work or drive therefore it is a powertrain problem, it wont drive and it inoperable. I think Mazda needs to recall this part as it leads to safety issues, or maybe they should repair this part for no charge. I am now one unhappy Mazda owner. . . . . .
As I was driving to work, smelled burning rubber. My car engine locked up, and I struggled to get off of the interstate highway. I found out that my a/c compressor quit and broke the belt of my engine. With rush hour traffic, I got the car to the dealer. I then found out that a lot of people have had this happen with their Mazda Cx-7. After talking to the dealer, they pay for parts I pay for labor, and have to rent a car. They replaced the a/c and several parts that go with it.
The a/c stopped working on the highway, and there was distinct burning smell from vents. The a/c compressor burned out and failed and when the car was stopped, it refuses to start back up. Apparently, failed a/c compressor makes the car inoperable. A/c compressor and the belt are being replaced.
We own a 2007 Mazda cx7. We live in abilene TX we are currently station in dyess afb. On 4th of July we took a drive to odessa TX to meet up with some friends to light up some fireworks for the holiday. On the way back, we began to feel that our ac started blowing hot air. I stopped to check it out, but everything looked to be in order and nothing was leaking. We kept track of all the gauges to make sure there was nothing wrong. We turned the ac unit off and open the windows to get some air from outside. Once we arrive to dyess afb in abilene TX. We notice a horrible burning rubber smell coming from the hood or our vehicle, the smell became more prevalent. Minutes later, there was a loud bang from under the hood. The car basically began shutting down. All check engine lights came on. Smoke from under the hood. No power steering. This happened at 2 am inside of the base a block away from our house, we were lucky to coast into our side of our house. Upon opening my hood ? the engine was extremely hot the water was boiling and the smell of burning rubber was extremely hard. We had to get the car towed to the closest Mazda dealership. We are now left without our vehicle for at least a month trying to get money to fix it. We were told is going to be 1200 to fix it. During this time I found out this isn't an isolated incident, and I feel Mazda needs to address this ASAP. I was driving with my wife, 7 year old, and infant - and this put us in a very frustrating situation. I was glad I was driving and not my wife, as it could have put her stranded somewhere. Or even worse driven out the road since we lost all power steering. I have found out there are a thousand or so people this has happened to. Why is there no recall already? it is obviously a problem.
Stopped at traffic signal 1 mile after leaving office. Loud howling noise from engine compartment accompanied by burning smell . Smoke began pouring from front left side of engine area. Engine fire and/or complete failure averted by immediate shut down of vehicle. Problem diagnosed as a/c compressor failure. Vehicle has 57k miles. Subsequent search of web forums on the problem details numerous complaints of same issue. Filing complaint today as this is an obvious design flaw that has not been addressed by manufacturer, through recall or TSB, that could lead to engine fire/failure and serious injury to vehicle occupants; either through vehicle fire or loss of control from engine or system failure, as a result of the defect.
At about 55,000 miles and only 3 years of usage, my vehicle started making a terrible racket and smell. I opened the hood to see it was a the clutch of the air compressor that had locked up and caused big problems with the belt. Trying to drive the vehicle to get repaired only made the issue worse. I got a brand new air compressor installed and the noise is now gone and the ac is working fine. (after paying approximately $700) however, the air bag light just started flashing and then staying on and it's only a week since the ac repair. I am worried about the safety of the vehicle and if there is a connection between the two issues. I am reading about all sorts of complaints with both issues and I have read a technical service bulletin about the airbags. A recall needs to be completed very quickly before many owners get seriously injured due to these rampant defects with the vehicle.
I have a 2007 Mazda cx7. A/c problems, I have talk to the dealer and searched the internet and have found many other people are having the same problems. Stop cooling, smoke coming from the vents and engine. Most only have 36,000- 50,000 miles. The cost of repairs are $1000+. The has had many cars come in with the same problem.
I bought my 2007 Mazda Cx-7 February 2007 with 19,000 miles. At the 20,000 mile mark I had to take the car in to get the transmission computer replaced, thankfully my car was still under warranty and that got taken care of. . At 35,000 miles I began having electrical issues, with the windows & doors, I eventually went outside of the Mazda corporation to fix the problem since my warranty had expired. I encountered the biggest problem of all on may 30, 2010 at 39,000 miles and a mere 16 months after having purchased the vehicle. While on a trip out of town with my family for memorial day weekend, the a/c suddenly went out and a strong burning smell began to fill the car. The smell was soo sudden and strong that my severe asthma almost immediately begin to act up. Fortunately,we were close to our destination and were able to stop within a few minutes. We figured we would let the car rest and didn't drive it for 24 hrs. The following day when we attempted to turn in on, it would not start and there was thick white smoke coming from the hood. We opened the hood and a giant cloud of smoke filled the air along with the reek of burning rubber. Being it was memorial day we struggled to find a mechanic shop that was open to assist us and to tow our car. Upon diagnosis it was established that the a/c compressor had died out having burned multiple components of my car, the final cost of these repairs is over $1600 including a $1200 compressor. I attempted to call Mazda corporate as well as the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and they seemed to wipe their hands clean off this incident even though upon research this seems to be a very common problem in this vehicle, one that upon discussing on forums they seem to be very aware of. I do not have $1600 at hand thus my vehicle remains out of town where it broke down. Mazda's nonchalant attitude is pushing me to file a class action lawsuit, they need to take responsibility for this defect & recall it this vehicle immediately!.
Driving my car (2007 Cx-7 with 29,500 miles on it - still "supposed" to be under warranty) as normal on a relatively hot and muggy day with a/c on (may 27, 2010). Rolled to a stop at a light at the bottom of an exit ramp, and the car shuttered and died. Popped into neutral, started up, put it in drive and it died again. I shut off the a/c and put the windows down to listen to the car, put it in neutral again and it started, put it in drive and it drove just fine. Engine temp was fine. I drove the car without a/c to get home safely. My husband and I switched cars (he has a Mazda 3, we are (were?) Mazda lovers). He drove it without a/c for the week, and on a limited basis until we could get it to a service appointment. Morning of June 3, car has smoke coming out of engine after driving 2-3 miles from home. Only the fan was running. There is an awful sound that comes on if the car runs with any of the air/circulation components. Engine temp is still in the normal range. It is currently at a dealership and we are waiting to hear back, but my suspicion is that it is the same problem with the a/c compressor/clutch/belt set up. Not good.
I was driving to my destination when the a/c stopped working and I smelled/saw smoke coming from underneath my vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the nearest mechanic and I was told that the air compressor was locked up and that we would have to wait a few days for a replacement part or drive home without the a/c in 90+ degree heat. Remedy, replaced air compressor at a cost of $957. 43 and by the way the vehicle had only 39203 miles on it.
While driving my 2007 Mazda cx7 with circulating fan on suddenly heard a grinding noise and had a lot of white smoke coming from under right front hood. There weren't any warning lights on my dash & the temp gauge read normal. Car has 43,000 miles on it and was at dealer previous week for routine oil change. Local Mazda dealer advised a/c compressor, dryer, expansion valve, pag oil & freon are all needed for $1,400 and it would take a 1/2 day to repair once they had the parts. This is a known defect and Mazda should cover with a recall.
I was driving down the road April 10, 2010, in my 2007 Mazda cx 7 when the a/c started blowing hot air, next thing I knew people are flagging me down and telling me my car is on fire! the car was not on fire, just very hot and smoking with a very bad burning smell. Dealership said a/c compressor locked up which caused other damage. Dealership said "they had no knowledge of problems with a/c compressor". Low and behold numerous complaints online of people with the same issues, between 30 - 50k miles, some even losing power steering or complete operation of their vehicles due to a/c compressor failure. Mazda has not recalled? this is a problem and it may cost someone their life. Please investigate. . .
Pulled into a gas station, once placed in park position, noticed white smoke coming from passengers front side. Opened the hood and smelled something burning. Drove home (5 mins) and left until I returned car to dealership. According to dealership, the air compressor locked up and the radiator cap was not working properly. The are replacing radiator cap and replacing air compressor with belt.
2007, Mazda Cx-7, 40,000 miles (4,000 out of warranty) the air compressor stopped working. Spewed only hot air. I had it at the dealer at 32,000 miles for a compressor/belt squeak. Dealer found "nothing unusual". Four days now with out the car and they don't know what is wrong.
I was driving my 2008 Mazda Cx-7 from baytown, texas to killeen, texas when I noticed that the air conditioning stopped working. Approximately 3-5 miles later white smoke billowed from under the hood and my steering locked. Because there was no suitable terrain on the right and because I was steering around a right-turn, I was forced to pull to the left. Because of the smoke and the distraction caused by the incident, I did not realize that there was a semi-truck heading towards me in the other lane. If it wasn't for the adept handling of the truck drive, I would have surely gone head on and I would have been killed. I was towed to bryan, texas where the vehicle was repaired after a whole day in the shop. They repaired the air conditioning compressor, an engine mount, a pulley I believe and some other miscellaneous items to the tune of over $1,400. I was extremely upset when I found out it was a common problem. . . One that nearly caused me my life. I have two small children that drive with me extremely frequently and I find it hard to believe that nothing s being done about Mazda placing people in danger like this.
2007 Mazda Cx-7 - 39 months old with 35,000 miles, the air conditioning a/c compressor caught on fire, melted the compressor and made the car smoke, had to stop the car and wait to be towed back home. Seems to be a problem happening to a lot of other Cx-7 owners. Would like for Mazda to take care of this problem and pay for any parts and repairs on this matter.
I just got a Mazda cx 7 4 months ago. The a/c system is fried. The factory warranty was no good and I have to pay$1900. Please I am read these articles and do not buy.
