Starting about a month after we bought the car we noticed that the indicator light for the passenger side air bag would sometimes light up indicating that the passenger side airbag was deactivated. We stop the car and exited the vehicle and reentered the vehicle and the light started to work properly. Over the next several days we noticed that the issue was happening more often. We took the car to brown¿s Mazda in alexandria. After checking the car out they said there was nothing wrong with the car. On Tuesday September 2, 2014 about 10 days after having the car serviced my wife and I was driving on a level city street around 5:48 pm, at that time the indicator light was off, which would indicate that the airbag and active restraints are on and that the car recognizes that there is an adult in the passenger side seat. A car pulled out from a side street in to traffic causing us to hard brake in order to avoid the accident. My wife that was in the passenger seat was thrown forward as if she did not even have a seat belt on, the active seat restraint did not tighten at all. The passenger side airbag light that was off was now on indicating that the airbag and restraint system was off. She was shaken but thankfully not harmed. Again we took it to the dealership and they have said that there is nothing they can do to fix it¿s just part of the design and that people my wife size should not use the car. I am very concerned about driving the car, because there is no way to predict when the airbag will decide to deactivate leaving the passenger at risk of injury if there were a crash or rollover.

In the Mazda 3, the tpms sensor is connected to the air valve. The tpms sensors break easily, causing the tire to deflate. If the outside part of the tpms sensor breaks from corrosion or being hit against a curb, the tire will deflate. I have had 3 tpms sensors break since I had the car, which has only been 4 years (approx 39,000 miles), and is expensive to replace. My tires are less than 3 years old. The part of the tpms exposed on the outside will corrode, and if the outside part breaks off, your tires deflate. This is a common problem for Mazda owners. These things break and then cause a flat, leaving the driver in a possible emergency situation. The reason for the tpms sensor is so drivers don't have blow outs, but the emergency light is very nonspecific, so the only way you know what the problem is is when the flat has already occurred, which is unnecessarily caused by the tpms sensor. This latest incident involved me stranded in the country, yet another tpms sensor replacement ($200 approx), a new tire, and an alignment - almost $500 total. If the tpms sensor hadn't broken, the flat would not have occurred at all.
I own a 2010 Mazda 3 the dashboard is melting, sticky, and smells, Mazda would not relace it under warranty, I was just outside warranty window, my last Mazda purchase!!!.
Tl - the contact owns a 2010 Mazda. The contact stated that the dashboard in the vehicle was melting. The contact mentioned the melted dashboard reflects onto the windshield and caused a glare that would affect the contacts visibility. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure was mileage was 38,000. Bt.
Mazda continues to ignore my complaint and admits my car is a safety issue. They will not replace my mat after the bracket broke off due to a warranty issue. They fixed the bracket but did not fix the mat. Ever since then, it gets crumpled and sticks to the break and pedal. Its getting worse over time. Last night I was with my wife at a drive through. All of the sudden the car accelerated. I immediately pulled the parking brake, threw it in park, and turned off the car. We almost hit the car in front of us. I then tried to figure out what happened. What happened is the mat got stuck and when my wife pushed the brake, she tapped the gas. I have told Mazda about this for years, they denied my request to fix the issue, now they just ignore me. Next time this happens it could have a worse ending. Just because they rather save money then fix the issue for a loyal customer. They attempted to fix the issue previously but failed. Now they wont even return my calls and ignore me. The dealer even tried but was denied the warranty. The fact remains, Mazda admits my car is a safety hazard and told me they wont fix it, for an issue that happened under warranty and nothing to do with me. They attempted to address the issue but failed, in fact, I could argue it made the issue worse because of the way the dealer tried to fix the mat they bent it even more, and now just ignore me when I ask them to address the issue again.

Today as I am reporting is the 3rd incident of this type since I bought the car brand new, and my car now has only 44 k miles on it. The tpms sensors on the Mazda 3 are connected to the air valve in the tires. Tpms sensors are very fickle and tend to corrode and break with seasonal weather. When the tpms sensor breaks on a Mazda3, it lets all the air out of your tire and gives you a flat, stranding you wherever you are. Tpms sensors are supposed to aid drivers to let them know there is a problem, but in this case, they actually cause the problem. The air valve being connected to the tpms is unique to the design of this car, and has never been a problem for me with other vehicles. This can lead to dangerous situations, depending on how fast the car is traveling and where. I have lost air on the highway and been stranded on the side of the road. Tpms sensors/installation are 200 bucks each approximately, and if your tire gets ripped up during the incident, you must also buy a new tire.
During parallel parking practice with brand new (less than 500 miles on car) Mazda3 sedan (2. 3) for a driver license exam, electronic power steering assist failed multiple times, rendering steering completely inoperable (cannot even steer manually since steering resistance is extreme). No dashboard lights indicating a problem. Upon turning ignition off and then immediately restarting car, steering would recover but then fail again several minutes later. Car also developed high-pitched whistling sound, source unclear. Dealership examined car and claims steering unit ok (although code indicated power steering malfunction) and is safe to drive. Dealership hypothesizes that electronic power steering assist unit overheated and suggests not turning steering wheel to extremes for more than 5 seconds--however, the steering failed at times when steering wheel was not turned to extreme (wheels straight), and if this is an "accepted" or "expected" finding in these cars it seems the safety margin for such a system failure is very low. Dealership cannot explain high-pitched whistle noise or failure of dashboard light to indicate steering system failure.

The mat bracket came loose while driving in 2008. The mat crumbled up in the middle. It could have gotten stuck under the gas pedal or break pedal. Mazda agreed to fix the bracket. However, they did not replace the mat. To this day the mat still crumbles. I asked Mazda to replace the mat, but they said its normal wear and tear. They agreed it was a safety issue and said I should replace it immediately. They will not replace this under warranty and insist its my fault that the mat would crumble.
