38 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 10/11/2022

The 2014 E350 4matic was diagnosed by the dealer with a cracked rear subframe. When I questioned that is this common with a 2014 model eclass they were not sure. Calling mb USA they felt there weren't any complaints. When I called 9 different dealers in the USA looking for a new subframe for the e-class, the common response was we are receiving many calls about replacing the subframe due to issues / cracked frame/rust, etc. They were all surprised and felt this is odd that this model would have so many subframe issues. Mbusa denied any issues as far as any structural issues. Very odd that my 2014 with approx 100k miles (garaged all the time) has subframe issues.

39 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 09/16/2022

The subframe on this vehicle is broken I took it to an independent dealer and they said they have never seen anything like this on a car this old. The mercedes dealer told me that it would cost me $5000 for them to fix it about 3 weeks ago but said it's rusting and beginning to crack. But never said it was something that needed to be addressed immediately. Upon further research it seems to be a common issue on this make and model on the right side. . Read more...

40 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 09/13/2022

I brought my car into mercedes on 9/13/2022 and was told my brake lines and subframe were rusting. It's a 2014 with only 80k miles on it. I was told I had a year before it needed to be replaced/addressed. I brought the car in again on December 12, 2022 and they said on a scale of 1-10 the subframes and brake lines were a 7 and were a safety issue. After doing some research, I am clearly not the only owner of this model dealing with this issue. This is safety issue and should be recalled. Subframes and brake lines should not rust so quickly.

41 Equipment problem of the 2016 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 08/09/2022

The car was in for (Aug 2022) annual safety and emissions state (PA) inspection and normal maintenance. Last performed Aug 2021. I was told that the car failed safety inspection because the rear subframe had rusted through. A hole was present not just surface rust. The car has 58,000 miles and garage kept. The car was just (June 2022) in for all 4 wheel brakes replaced along with 4 tires. There hasn’t been any recall on this and they quoted repair price of$5,400 and expect me to pay $1,000 towards that replace and repair. My question is clearly this is an inferior part. I’ve since investigated that recalls have been issued for the c model but not on the e which I own. If my car was in for inspection 12 mos ago and in for brakes 3 mos ago how long did it take to rust through? we’re talking about a hole not surface rust. I can’t believe that the hole just appeared anyway but within the time last safety inspection occurred. Why do I maintain the service recommendations and have safety concern that the manufacture will not own up to and that me and my family are at risk of an accident. I’n fact the service manager admitted that he is seeing more and more of theses failures.

43 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 07/28/2022

The rear subframe unit of this 2014 e-class e212 is diagnosed as rusted and rotted out on this 8 year old vehicle. The poor quality of this part from Mercedes Benz is known to be an underlying, hidden risk factor to the stability of the vehicle. This is a hidden/underlying area of the vehicle, not visible to the driver/owners, that without cause, can break free from the main frame structure of the vehicle and create a stability factor when cornering and braking, causing swaying of the rear and owner panic when abruptly stopping. I had this vehicle serviced at catonsville mercedes-benz since I purchased the vehicle on April 14, 2017. On my last visit on December 19, 2019 having only 40,051 miles. No physical evidence know to me during this inspection. The vehicle has been hardly used. My next service was done on July 28,2022, having only 49,250 miles. That's just 9,299 miles and just over 2 years later, no harsh weather conditions, and the dealership has confirmed that this subframe has rotted out and rusted nearly thru. The service writer informed me that this is a serious condition that can break apart and lead to a very serious accident. Depending on certain driving conditions, if this breaks apart unknowingly, can be catastrophic. Mercedes benz advertised greatly the ultimate safety features of its products, only to be realized, that it has used poor quality galvanized steel on a major structure of its framework to save cost. Mercedes provides a 3 year/36,000 mile and a 5 year 50,000 mile powertrain warranty which neither covers this. Galvanized steel has a life expectancy of 6 to 8 years resulting in deterioration, which mercedes knowingly intends to pass this repair cost to the owners. This vehicle was inspected by a certified authorized Mercedes Benz dealership. Warning lights, message sensors are not installed on this part. No other parts surrounding this component show any signs of rust, rot or deterioration. I feel unsafe to drive or place family within.

44 Equipment problem of the 2011 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 07/11/2022

Just been told by the Mercedes Benz service/dealership that on my 2011 e-350 which has only about 73,000 miles that rear subframe of the car is so badly rusted that it is a serious safety hazard to drive this car, and it wouldn't pass the PA state safety inspection. For safety reasons, the mb service manager has advised not to drive the vehicle until the issue is fixed. The cost to fix/replace the sub-frame and associated labor charges is quoted is $5400. 00. The car has been serviced regularly as recommended by the manufacturer exclusively at the same Mercedes Benz dealership. It is hard to imagine that a company such as Mercedes Benz would make parts that would be rusted and damaged so easily and quickly. This ought to be a flawed part and/or poor-quality material to rust and become a safety hazard. I have now seen many postings on the benzworld. Org forum who are experiencing this issue. I strongly believe, Mercedes Benz should be held liable and accountable to replace and/or repair the issue at their own cost - there should be a safety recall. Over the years, I have driven many cars for much longer time (over 15 years) and many more miles (over 150,000 miles) but never had such a rusting issue, and such expensive repair/replacement to rectify the issue. It is unfair to the consumers to subject them such safety hazard to themselves and others on the road.

45 Equipment problem of the 2011 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 07/11/2022

I do not know what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and my vehicle has been inspected. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk, because my vehicle was speeding in reverse and not responding to my multiple braking. The dealership informed me that they did not find or detect any malfunction at all. Mercedes benz performed a "full inspection on my vehicle". There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the incident.

46 Equipment problem of the 2012 Mercedes Benz E350

47 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 04/13/2022

I want to report a structural issue with the mercedes rear subframe rusting. Three mercedes dealers told me that it is common but there is no recall. The mechanic told me that if this is not corrected the back wheel will fall off while you are driving. There are no warning lamps. Please help.

48 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 03/07/2022

The car was brought in for scheduled maintenance and they told me that my rear sub frame rusted out and had snapped. Car is only 7 years old, always garaged, basically a main part rusted out. Mercedes prides itself on durability and safety. There were no warning lights, alarms, nothing. Whenever I braked the rear end of the car would slide to the left and I had to try and adjust accordingly. Prior to bringing the car in for its maintenance I was reluctant to drive it on highways and at higher speeds. Now that I am aware of the problem, had the rear of the car given out while I was on a highway, I had the potential to roll over and possibly blown up had the gas tank been impacted. I researched the issue on google and found many instances of others having the same issue, with the same part, luckily no one appears to have been killed as yet. As I mentioned this was never picked up during all the scheduled maintenance work, nor state inspections, all handled by this dealership. The dealership is in the process of replacing the part and all work associated with that replacement. I don't know if they kept the part or tossed it out, but will ask. No one else has seen the car or rusted part other than the dealership. I'm also sending you a copy of the letter I sent to he dealership and mercedes-benz home office.

51 Equipment problem of the 2016 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 01/03/2022

I have the similar issue with my sun roof as described by this entry found on your website below: started developing (April 2021) a rattle in car's roof along with occasional metal popping sound coming from rear of car. Continued to get worse. Then rattle stopped for a while and so did the metal popping sound. Now ( August, 2021)it sounds like there is a bolt loose in the sunroof area and the metal popping sound is really loud and I think coming from roof. Most of the time when car body twist, like going up a slight incline at an angle when entering a parking lot this incredible loud popping sound resonates throughout the entire car body. Played around on mercedes website and it appears that mercedes has problems with sunroof bolts coming loose. This is a safety defect -- if sunroof comes lose at 70 mph it is going to fly off and hurt or kill someone. Also strength of roof is compromised and if have accident where roof protection is needed it will probably fail.

52 Equipment problem of the 2012 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 11/08/2021

Totally puzzled. . Intermittent misfire from. Exhaust. Not a very loud backfire sound. Sounds like a fart or gurgle from exhaust only when I start the car sometimes. No check engine light no lights on the dash car runs fine, accelerates normal, no ticking, vibrating or shaking. . No rough idle put on a code reader no codes pulled only misfires after being driven engine turned off and back on. Starts fine. Went to several mechanics and unable to assess misfire due to it being random spark plugs and coils changed air filter and cabin filter changed no leaks in the exhaust looking for answers.

53 Equipment problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 10/04/2021

The contact owns a mercedes-benz E350. The owner experienced this failure about a month ago. The vehicle was parked in the driveway and the contact noticed gas is leaking continuously in his driveway. The vehicle fills up with gasoline on the driver's side and goes into the back passenger's seat on the driver's side. The believes the extended warranty agreement between NHTSA and mercedes-benz is a safety hazard regarding the gas leak failure. The contact talked to the manufacturer and local dealer regarding the failure and waiting for a response from them both. The failure has not been officially diagnosed yet. The approximate mileage is 184,000. 2006mercedes-benz E350w VIN: wdbuf56j06a847910 recall data refreshed on Feb 17,2022 0 unrepaired recalls associated with this VIN.

Pre-safe inoperative warning message comes on at random times. I’ve taken the vehicle in to address this issue, but mercedes claims they did not see the message, and there are no error codes. I purchased this vehicle because it comes with this safety feature - I find it unacceptable that it does not function.

55 Equipment problem of the 2011 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 08/18/2021

We took our car into the local Mercedes Benz dealership at ft. Washington, PA for a routine service and PA inspection. Our vehicle is a 2011 mb e 4 matic and has ~70k miles. We received a call stating that the rear subframe of the vehicle had failed and was not considered safe and therefore did not pass the PA state inspection. We authorized the dealership to replace the component, which was done. The dealership suggested the corrosion may be caused by salt used for removing snow. The car was garaged routinely, washed including undercarriage routinely and the google search suggested that the amount of snow since 2011 was lower than normal. I explored the internet and it appears that this issue has been documented by others for this and other models of mb vehicles. I also found a police inquiry which suggests failure of this component could cause the vehicle to lose control during driving. I spoke with the mb USA people and they did not think there was a significant issue and that this was not a recall or warranty issue currently. I wanted to report this to you for reference.

57 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 06/21/2021

Mercedes benz E350 2014 - panoramic sunroof rattling and squeaking noise/sound: this issue has been reported by many online, and it is a well known problem with E350. It starts with a little bit of squeak and metallic rattle noise here and there, and then after a year or so it is almost happening all the time as you drive the car. Dealer states that sunroof frame bolts have to be retorqued and loose bolts which rattle around have to be put back on. Estimated cost $712. If not a safety risk causing pano sunroof to eventually fly off, it should definitely be a recall as many E350 owners have reported the same issue, and it is a manufacturer defect.

58 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 06/02/2021

The panoramic roof gets stuck in open position and makes the car dangerous for flying objects into the car also I feel more dangerous for my safety and for life. In my car we have repaired the roof several times, again now the roof is stuck in open position. I believe this should be a factory recall issue as this is very marginal and poor design to result in failure so often.

59 Equipment problem of the 2013 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 05/09/2021

A summary of the may 9, 2021, event follows: 6:30 a. M: I woke up, put on gym clothes and shoes and drove to gym (1 mile from home). 7:01:40 a. M. Turned into the gym parking lot and slowly inched into a parking space. (my mercedes rides low in the front so I pull in slowly so the block will not scrape my bumper). 7:02:00 a. M. As I pull slowly into the parking space the car stalls and the engine begins revving very loud. I firmly press my right foot (foot was already on the brake as I was inching into the space) on the brake because the car is still making that revving sound. 7:02:15 a. M. The car is at a complete stop for some time. The engine begins revving even louder and surges forward (foot was still on the brake) four feet. The car hits the brick gym building and comes to a standstill. I turn off the engine and sit there stunned. ( a witness signed a statement and said "car was at a complete stop for some time. . . Thought driver would open her door and get out but then the car suddenly surged forward and hit the building"). After getting out of my car and inspecting the wrecked car, I notice the gas cap is open and I shut it. The police show up, and say "no police report" will be made. I have some injuries (concussion, bruises over full torso and legs) but I treat patients with tbis so self-diagnosed and treated my injuries without seeking additional medical attention. On may 9, 2021, I call csaa and report the accident. After several conversations with csaa claims advisor karl arnold, it appears the car frame is damaged, and repair costs exceed value of car. The building had no damage. I then attempted to access relevant data on the edr and was misled by the mercedes fairfield dealership, service unit. I was told by josh “the data is irretrievable, and you can’t get it”. I asked why would congress pass the edr in to law making edrs mandatory and data belongs to owner, if it is not retrievable? he had no answer. 60 Equipment problem of the 2011 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 04/11/2021

My 2011 E350 soft convertible top is leaking hydraulic fluid from the pistons and the flexible tubing running through the soft top roof (drivers side) to the locking mechanism which secures it to the windshield is developing a serious kink that will likely fail soon and leak fluid into the interior of the vehicle. Definitely a poor design as the lines do not have a flex joint at the hinge point to allow for repeated bending during operation of the top. I believe it to be a bad design / premature failure and should be a recall item paid for my Mercedes Benz.

69 Equipment problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 09/21/2020

After driving for 1 hour, back seat shelf speaker made a loud popping and humming noise and emitted a strong burning smell. Trunk opened and confirmed smoke coming from rear amplifier, strong smell of plastic melting and speakers were too hot to touch. Disconnected amplifier from battery and took vehicle to dealer who confirmed. Dealer re-hooked amplifier to battery, confirmed that amplifier was indeed smoking and speakers would need replacing as well. Vehicle only has 57,750 miles and is out of warrantee. Local dealer maintenance representative agreed that a vehicle with such low mileage should not be catching fire but dealer would not cover cost of repair.

70 Equipment problem of the 2017 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 09/18/2020

At around 2. 15 pm cst, I was driving my mercedes westbound on I-694 towards minneapolis at roughly 70 mph when suddenly my e300 stalled and by the time I could figure what was wrong, I lost all power in the steering wheel. The mercedes brake assist triggered a hard brake and my car stopped in the middle lane on the freeway. The car behind me nearly missed me and at this point every light in the dashboard lit up (I have attached the picture below). I tried hitting on the ignition multiple times but got no response. At this point, I decided not to sit in the car since it was too dangerous with fast oncoming traffic and it was only going to be a matter of time that someone would rear end me. I stepped out of my car and while multiple cars were approaching me at high speed from both left and right lanes I found a very small window of time (2-3 seconds) to sprint from the middle lane of I-694 to the shoulder. My worry was still far from over as my car was still sitting in middle of the interstate and now I was concerned about the safety of other folks who were traveling in my direction. I saw 12 to 15 cars almost rear end my car. While this was happening, I realized my phone was dead and I was unable to call 911. I continually waved at the oncoming traffic to alert them of my car and requested them to call 911. About 7 to 9 minutes later, the state highway patrol showed up and blocked traffic to assist me with moving my car to the shoulder. These 7 to 9 minutes were the most traumatic I have ever seen in my life. I felt helpless, anxious, and extremely stressed out.
