3 Power Train problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/06/2023

I have been intermittently losing power steering. The code is b1342. After researching, it looks like Ford is aware of this problem but is unwilling to fix the issue. This fix must be done at a dealership since it is a software issue and going to cost $2,000. Obviously losing power steering when going at fast speeds is incredibly dangerous for myself and others. There is no check engine light that comes on when the issue arises.

17 Power Train problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/09/2018

Ford's recall "code 14s19" on 2005-2008 Mariner hybrids and escape hybrids should cover all of these hybrids but it has exceptions! Ford has issued a recall on *some* of the 2005-2008 Ford escape hybrids and *some* of the corresponding Mercury Mariner hybrids. However they are refusing to issue a recall on my particular 2008 Mariner hybrid (which is exhibiting the electronic overheating problem described in the recall where the stop safely now comes on and there is an immediate loss of power). They are refusing to fix my Mariner just because the VIN number does not match the particular manufacturing lot covered by the original Ford recall - though my SUV does fall in the date range mentioned in the recall) I am certain this recall should cover more hybrid SUV than Ford has admitted to, and since the Mariners had a very limited production run, it is less likely that there wil be a significant number of complaints due to this very serious life threatening issue - and I would like to emphasize that there have been numerous complaints about this including on NHTSA. Ford should expand this recall to include all defective Ford escapes and Mariner hybrids before serious accidents start occurring as a result of vehicles shutting off during operation because of either drive electronics over heating due to a bad coolant pump, (and possibly other causes?). ----relevant recall-- NHTSA vehicle safety recalls recall number 14v526000 recall date 09/03/2014 component hybrid propulsion system Ford contact number for recalls 1-866-436-7332. . 30 Power Train problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 03/28/2017

While driving the car on a highway, the warning light chimes and displays to "safely stop vehicle". The car no longer accelerates and slows to a stop even if you don't have a shoulder to pull off to. I normally just hit my hazard lights and pull to a stop, wait a few minutes then restart the engine. This happen once a month and sometimes twice or three times in a row. If the hybrid electronics system overheats, it may shut down the powertrain, resulting in a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash. There is currently a recall on this problem #14s19. Called Ford and they said my vehicle isn't a part of it even though it clearly was built in the same time and has the exact issue. Very dangerous and scary problem.

31 Power Train problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/14/2017

When I pulled out into traffic on my way to meijer the vehicle began to stall like it was in neutral. I was able to drive it to a stop light where I put it into park. When I took off from the traffic light everything was ok, went to meijer and turned the vehicle off. Went shopping & when I started the vehicle again eveything seemed normal. Within a mile of leaving meijer the vehicle began the same symptoms "acting like it was going to stall. " when I tried to increase the speed to get the vehicle home it would not go over 15 mph. It was like it was confused about what gear it was in. I put the vehicle in reverse to pull into a parking space and the vehicle did nothing. I turned it off and restarted it then put it in drive and pulled into a parking space.

32 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/13/2017

I have just found out I have lost 2nd gear and 4th gear is on its way out on my car. Apparently this is a problem that Ford has known about at least since 2012, according to an online Ford motor company publication, maybe even earlier. The publication states that it affects 2007-2008 Ford escapes and Mercury Mariners. What I want to know is, if they knew about it at least five years ago, why wasn't there a recall and if not a recall, some kind of financial assistance/compensation for the repairs? I've shopped around for prices and the best I could find was $2200. 00 for the repair plus another $225. 00 for a rental to use while my car is being repaired. The repair is going to take 3-5 days.

33 Power Train problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/27/2016

I was driving about 60 miles an hour on an expressway when the throttle control/powertrain indicator light came on and I could no longer accelerate the vehicle. As I pulled over to stop, the vehicle lurched forward multiple times before I was able to shut the engine off.

34 Power Train problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/26/2016

Intermittently loosing power, intermittent wrench light. Power loss happens when going up hill from a stop or even when at a rate of speed on the freeway. Goes completely limp, but does not shut off. Almost rear ended by a semi yesterdaymorning. The wrench light goes off and stays off for a bit once you shut the car off, making diagnoses very hard. What once was so intermittent it was thought to be a fluke, is happening with more regularity. And I see other complaints but no recall for this issue, so I know I am not the only one having this extremely dangerous issue.

35 Power Train problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/27/2016

Wrench light on Mercury Mariner 2011 with slow (20-40mph max) and rough ride home. Yesterday while leaving work, I turned right out of the parking lot onto the main road. Immediately my Mariner hesitated, jerked forward, and a wrench light came on. My SUV slowly accelerated to 20mph and struggled to get to 40mph. It road rough and I wasn't sure if it would stall or not; however, I was able to slowly make it home. I looked up the wrench light and learned I was likely having a throttle body or powertrain problem. I found online that the dealer would fix it, but unfortunately, that was only through January 2015 and had expired (before the dealer even sold me the SUV. ) I started the SUV this morning to take to the dealer to get fixed, but the wrench light has gone off and there is not proof to show the dealer of the problem. I am looking into replacing the throttle body at my own cost as a preventive nature. I wish I would have known of this before the dealer sold me the car.
