5 Transmission Failure problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 03/18/2013

My 2008 Mercury Mariner was towed into my local dealer because the transmission failed without warning and no warning lights came on and the steering had an issue with the steering wheel locking up while the vehicle was in gear. When I took into the dealer they confirmed that the transmission had in fact went out and they would have to replace the steering column due to the problem with the steering was the thrust angle sensor that was embedded into the steering column. The sensor is not servicable and the whole column would have to be replaced. Both failures happen within 4 days! upon talking to the service writer, there was a recall on the transmission cooler lines that run thru the a/c condenser. They called me today and informed me that my vehicle was done and told me it was $5364. 56. He informed me that the trans cooler lines would not be covered due to the transmission failure! how can a factory recall not be covered? I bought the vehicle from the same Ford dealer used and the recall was issued before I purchased the car! how can they sell a car and not perform the recall service before they sold it to me and my family? I asked the service writer if that was the factory part and he stated that it could possible be. If they are not going to take care of a factory recall, how am I suppose to trust them to fix my vehicle properly? I have two small children in this vehicle every single day, twice a day! there have been so many complaints about the transmission and power steering in the 2008 models that I am surprised that they haven't put a recall on those parts yet. There are two more vehicles at the same dealer with the same problem! a 2008 Mariner and 2008 escape. The last 3 cars I bought have been Ford and I will never buy another Ford product again. Somebody needs to stop them before somebody gets hurt or killed.

6 Transmission Failure problem of the 2007 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 03/27/2012

Internal transmission failure; needs replacement transmission. Had done all factory recommended services when due including transmission flushes. Transmission should not have failed at this mileage, especially given the fact that car was serviced according to manufacturer specifications. Have had numerous other cars with substantially more mileage and no transmission issues.

7 Transmission Failure problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 12/23/2011

On Feb 2010, I signed a 3-yr lease on a 2010 Mercury Mariner. On Dec 23, 2011, after 8hrs of driving, on the way to my relatives, the vehicle started jerking. With 22,250 miles on the vehicle, my transmission failed; very harsh engagements, vehicle jerks hard between gears, looses power and pops forward when driving steady speed and when approaching an intersection to stop or turn. Safety concerns due to unknown if power failure will occur when there is oncoming traffic or if vehicle will pop me into oncoming traffic or hit someone ahead of me in traffic. Transmission issue also causes poor gas mileage. On 12/24/11, I took it to a nearby Ford dealership and they have had my truck going on two weeks and they are just repairing the transmission. Since I leased this through Ford motor credit, I contacted them last night in hopes that they will at least pro-rate my lease for the month. To no avail, they said they can't. The dealership said that there is no recall for this problem but it seems like I am not the only one experiencing these issues. What can I do?.

8 Transmission Failure problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/16/2010

I purchased 2010 Mercury Mariner at the end of may 2010, approximately 21 weeks after purchase date my transmission failed; very harsh engagements, vehicle jerks hard between gears, looses power and pops forward when driving steady speed and when approaching an intersection to stop or turn. Safety concerns due to unknown if power failure will occur when there is oncoming traffic or if vehicle will pop me into oncoming traffic or hit someone ahead of me in traffic. Transmission issue also causes poor gas mileage. Ford dealership replaced transmission in 10/16/10 (13 days with dealership) and stated vehicle issues were corrected. I returned vehicle to dealership for continued transmission safety issues (same as noted above) on 12/06/10 (4 days with dealership), again on 1/11/11 (16 days with dealership) after I had submitted 30 demand letter on 12/15/10 to repair or repurchase vehicle and dealership advised each time transmission repair completed. Yet each time transmission issues/concerns still remain. Dealership service manager drove vehicle and agreed there are transmission issues/concerns. Ford customer relations advised a TSB would be issued prior to end of June 2011 that would correct transmission and offered an extended power train warranty of 60 months or 100,000 miles. I have sent emails to Ford customer relations inquiring on the TSB on 6/27/11, 6/29/11 and 7/7/11, no response received. No TSB to date. Ford motor company is not standing behind their vehicle production nor the consumer that purchased this vehicle.
