4 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/29/2019

When the brake pedal is released the car doesn't move forward or backward. The brakes are sticking between stopped and go. This problem also occurs when the car is in motion and there is shaking and a vibration that literally comes out of nowhere. The main question here to be answered; is the abs valve and the hydraulic control unit working properly? currently the car is not covered under the Ford recall 19s54. The recall for the abs hydraulic control unit needs to be expanded to cover all Mercury Milan vehicles. The testing and or replacement of the hcu is critical for all Milan owners safety. I was told at my dealership that there is no recall and the abs light isn't on so there isn't any problem. I am going to see if I can get this problem repaired on my own after dealing with this issue for the past six months.

5 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 2009 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

Brakes keep going mushy after abs activates, taking significantly longer to stop the vehicle. The abs activates occasionally for no reason on good dry road conditions. Also, the abs light goes on and off in dry conditions.

6 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

Several years back, I had a near failure of my brakes when rolling down a hill toward a right turn at the bottom. ( I think in retrospect that because of my hitting some bumpy patches on the turn lane the brakes attempted to actuate abs). I had sufficient braking, pedal to the floor, to roll to a stop. Popping the hood, I found the cap on the brakes fluid reservoir was ajar. I refitted it and found that the brakes worked normally. (in retrospect, I do not believe that a "failure" occurred in the reservoir cap, but was instead a consequence of other malfunctions in the system. Some time later, I had another failure, which nearly resulted in a crash. I limped to garnet Ford, and had repairs done, totaling about $1200. The cautionary I received from the service rep was foreboding: replacement of the master cylinder may not fix the problem. They then claimed that the repair was sufficient. (in retrospect, I should have been at the least taking this action then and there: an automobile with only 35,000 miles on it ought not have dangerous and defective brakes). Last month I had to have brakes repaired, as a result of problems stemming from my wife driving the vehicle, and experiencing much the same thing as had occurred to me the first incident. Front rotors and pads were serviced, but that did not fix the problem. Now my abs warning light is intermittently on, and I am getting a roughness to braking as if the front brakes are worn down: they are not. I am returning to the mechanic with this problem. I do not know what the outcome will be, but it is suggestive of a built-in defect, which is tremendously hazardous, and irresponsible of Ford to ignore this defect.

7 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 2011 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

During a wintery morning I had to apply the brakes and the abs light came on for a few seconds and then went off. Braking was only normal not urgent or anything like that. Afterwards the break pedal travel has increased significantly and have become spongy. Braking distance has increased dramatically. Safety is a big issue here because after doing a little research I've learned that this is actually becoming a typical issue for anyone who owns this car or a Ford fusion. My local repair shop told me that it is probably the hydraulic control module which is part of the abs system and sure enough I believe they are correct. I called the dealer I purchased the car from and parts and labor come to about $1,700. 00!!! this part should not fail and if it does a recall needs to be issued because I know I'm not the only one with this complaint.

Then the passenger airbag warning light came on. After this happened all my gauges including my speedometer, blinkers, headlights, rpm, etc. Became inoperable. I am not able to drive the car at all due to this issue.

9 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

I was driving home from work when I began hearing a noise from my passenger side tire when I would brake. I pulled over to see if there was a flat, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I continued on the highway home and kept hearing noises when I would brake. I took the exit for my neighborhood; while I was on the access road slowing down to the speed limit, the passenger rear brake locked on me. I made it to a complete stop about 100 feet from the light at the intersection. After turning on the hazard lights, I tried to accelerate, but the car did not want to move. I ended up being able to move the car at a slow rate to the strip mall about a quarter of a mile away. I called for a tow, but all the ones I reached out to had an approx. Wait time of 2 hours and the dealership closed in 1 hour. While deciding what to do with the car, I noticed the abs light was on. I was about 5 minutes from home and decided to drive the car onward. I took the car at a slow rate to try and ensure nothing happen. When I turned onto my street, the passenger tire blew out and the abs light turned off. I drove the last few feet home and called a tow the following morning. The car is currently at the dealership in queue to be worked on.

11 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 01/11/2014

While driving to work and then back home from work I cross over a couple of railroad tracks. Going over them rather rough one time, I noticed my abs system light engaged and came on. Everything appears okay, abs light goes back off so we continue driving. However, the brakes are extremely soft and often have to be pushed all the way to the floor to engage any real ability to stop the vehicle. We found that pumping the brakes seems to help their softness, but it is not a fix for the situation as the brake pedal will still return to the floor when the next need for braking arises. Then we will have periods of driving with no issues. But have had this same problem with the brake pedal re-occur with some mild road abnormalities. Since this is not an issue that was constant at the time, we learned a way to get around it by pumping the brakes to put air back in the mechanism. But now it is happening every couple of weeks. My husband was hit on our front fender by a gentleman driving the wrong way and the small 'tap' from the accident seemed to have retriggered the soft braking issue so the mechanics looked into it since we described our problems.
