Whenever the car engine isn't warm and I slam on the brakes, they barely respond. I have replaced the master cylinder, abs hydraulic module, brake booster, calipers, pads, and rotors, and it still has about 20% normal braking power when the engine is cold. Just got it back from the dealership again. Dealer said no vacuum leak found, no leaks found, abs module checks out fine, and said the check valve passed diagnostics. The problem remains. This has been ongoing for several years now. May have contributed to an accident in 2023. Not sure as my wife was driving. When the engine is warm, the brakes work perfectly.
The contact owns a 2009 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. There was no warning light illuminated. Check engine light airbag light brake light on my car they turned them off and they turned on right after.
On may 10, 2024, as I was rounding a sharp curve, I applied brakes to slow down, but there were no brakes. In fact the brake pedal went to the floor. I had to use emergency brake to stop and gain my wits. I turned around and slowly drove home (about 0. 5 miles) and used e-brake to stop and park in front of house. On may 21 I had vehicle towed to dealer. They found that the brake pedal was still against floorboard, but when they started vehicle, it came back up to normal position and was working fine. They could not duplicate the loss of brakes. My vehicle was manufactured within the date range of a TSB regarding hydraulic control unit and dot3 brake fluid corrosion, but dealer says VIN not applicable to TSB. I am thinking of paying for new hcu anyway, just for my family's protection. I would like my VIN to be included in TSB repair.
The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan hybrid. The contact stated that while the mother was driving approximately 30 mph the brake pedal was depressed and the pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle did not immediately stop. During the incident the abs, traction control and brake warnings had displayed. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the hcu and abs modules were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact was informed that the hcu module was no longer available from the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000(service brakes, hydraulic). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced that same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 60,539.
My name is [xxx] and I own a 2010 Mercury Milan. I bought it on [xxx] from an 84 year old woman who take good care of it. It had 91,000 miles which were mostly hwy miles. She kept records of all her oil changes. After having it for almost 3 years and keeping up with it myself, on February 27,2024 in the morning I put brake fluid in the car. I had brake pads and rotors done on the car in August 2023. On the evening of [xxx], my son and I took a ride to the local 7/11 which is 5 minutes away. While driving home and coming to the traffic light at the beginning of my neighborhood the light turned red. As I proceeded to stop my foot went all the way to the ground and I had no brakes. I had to go through the light because I could not stop. The car was flying down the road because it is a very steep hill. I tried to pull the emergency brake and nothing happened. I was nearing the end of the road going 40 mph due to the hill. I thought I was going to hit my neighbors house at the bottom of the hill. My son grabbed the steering wheel to turn it and I went up on my curb, across my lawn and crashed into a storage tent on my driveway. My car was wedged inside the tent which was filled with furniture and other belongings. I called Ford corporation in reference to this recall from December 2019 for 2010 Mercury Milans. Then I spoke with a Ford dealership in smithtown where they were rude and said the car was 14 years old and I may have to pay if they didn't find my car was part of the recall. I tried calling several other numbers in washington and was finally told to upload the horrible situation that had occurred due to my brakes not working on this website. Someone needs to look at my car to make sure this will not happen to others. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The abs brake function checked out during the recall window on Nov. 2 of 2021. The Ford dealer mechanics purged the brake system with fresh fluid and tested the function. Tested ok. The car was used without issue until recently and now the brake pedal goes down nearly to the floor before the brakes engage. It is shocking at first and once used to that the driver will pump the pedal twice for a firm pedal. A recent visit to a Ford dealer to diagnose the issue revealed that the recall is closed and that there is nothing they can do unless I pay the approximately $1000 to replace the abs hydraulic module. My complaint is that Ford customer service wants me to pay for this and then submit the invoice to them for review. Wow, I'm not going to do that, since there is no guarantee of reimbursement. This is a known safety problem that is not being addressed appropriately. I'm a mechanic. They could send me the part free of charge for a sane resolution. I'd eat the labor charge.
Power brake failure, brake pedal goes to the floor, vehicle rolls forward and backward while in park, abs warning and trac system warning lights are on and also brake service warning light.
The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that she became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the braking system was flushed with dot 4 fluid and a new brake fluid reservoir cap was installed; however, the contact stated while driving 20 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but went down to the floorboard and failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she engaged the electronic parking brake, and the vehicle stopped. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving, and there was a stopping distance delay. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the brakes were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the abs module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

The gas pedal gets stuck at the top when I go to press down on it allowing the car to keep driving when I am trying to stop the car.
Brakes are failing even after they have been serviced. Unsafe car to drive.
The brake system went completely out. The brake pedal has no pressure and goes all the way to the floor. When looking online there are 197 complaints after reading through the first 9d all of them were about the abs control module. All other repairs regarding to the brakes have already been made with the problem still not being fixed. There were no warning signs of this happening. The brake switch just went out when driving home one day. This has all been diagnosed by a private mechanic. The only thing left to change or repair is the abs control module.
I received a letter in July of 2021 about the abs control unit problem my vehicle has. At the moment that control module is non-functional. To date Ford has not produced or made available any of the parts needed for this repair and will not even acknowledge the vehicle when I called them. I would like to know how long I have to drive a vehicle with known defective brakes before Ford is forced to complete this repair? there is also a brake fluid issue with this vehicle that cannot be addressed until the non-functioning abs module is repaired. The dealer refused to change the said corrosive fluid because of the non-functioning abs module.
When starting to drive 2 days ago multiple braking warnings went off on the vehicle, including advance trac warnings. The vehicle became extremely difficult to stop, requiring high pressure on the pedal. It was able to be stopped safely as there was an empty parking lot nearby. It was taken to a Ford dealership (tri-county Ford) and diagnosed with a failure of the abs control module. The part was confirmed by the dealer to be the same as in NHTSA recall # 19v904000 (Ford recall 19s54). Repair cost $1220, dealer advised calling Ford. I then called Ford who informed me that my specific VIN was not covered under the recall. There were no issues or warnings prior to this event. The worst part is that this is the second time such an serious incident has occurred with my vehicle which could have harmed or killed me or others. In 2019 the power steering failed spontaneously on the car while driving and again, the 2011 Milan hybrid was covered but not my specific 2010 VIN (I filed a separate NHTSA complaint and sent a letter to Ford yet there were multiple reports prior, and multiple similar reports since then, sadly). I have now experienced two major safety events with the vehicle. Thankfully I was very fortunate to walk away from both (at a combined cost of $3000), yet these should have been corrected by Ford and covered under recalls. I am an emergency medicine physician who takes care of people injured in motor vehicle accidents. Shame on you, Ford and NHTSA for failing to correct either problem and for keeping similarly unsafe and unrepaired cars on the road! make sure the correct vehicles are covered with these recalls and if not and additional reports come in, it is your duty to expand them to keep the public safe!.
The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal only responded after being depressed further down to the floorboard. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the used car dealer where the brake line was bled; however, the failure persisted. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) as the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 165,900.
Brake pedal going almost to the floor once, then later did so again and almost didn’t stop, almost crashed.
Brakes going to the floor twice, almost unable to stop the second time - almost crashed. This vehicle’s brakes were recalled per Ford. Cleveland Ford dealer in cleveland TN agreed to fix it, then changed their minds a couple days later and said they weren’t required to fix it because they couldn’t replicate the problem. Mountain view Ford in chattanooga agreed today to fix it, taking it there tomorrow. We’ll see.
Was not able to drive my car because you had to press the breaks all the way to the ground in order for the vehicle to attempt to stop. A recall was issued for the hydraulic breaks in 2019 and no parts were available for almost a year. Car has been at the dealership being repaired since August 12, but now they are telling us that the hydraulic breaks issues has caused the break master cylinder to fail - leaving the car unsafe and undrivable but they are expecting us to pay for the replacement of the master cylinder when the dealership openly admitted this was directly caused because of the recall.
The brakes failed to stop my car a week ago. A warning brake light appeared at the same time. It happened on a street near my home before I pulled onto the highway. No one was behind me. I shut engine off and when it restarted, I was able to brake, turn around, and return home. I had car towed to repair facility who examined the brakes and determined the brakes needed software update that only Ford could do as per a recall that just appeared. I had the car towed to Ford dealership where it now sits waiting to be worked into their schedule. This had also happened a year prior backing out of my driveway. Repair facility examined the brakes then, but found no issue as brakes began working again. Other than these 2 incidents, the brakes have been operating correctly. The car is available for inspection at Ford dealer in lenoir city. Tn.
I am here to report a complaint as to lasco Ford lasco Ford on 2525 owen road fenton, mi 48430 holding my daughter's vehicle for several days to fix 2 recalls. She is 19 and they seem to be trying to take advantage of her in telling her other things that need repair rather than just fixing the recalls. Now they are saying she needs to pay a diagnostic fee to get her car back now that she will not spend the $1000 to repair everything, they say she needs.
The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while pulling out of the driveway, the contact depressed the brake pedal because of an oncoming vehicle however, the vehicle failed to stop as needed. The contact pumped the brake pedal and the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle had passed the hydraulic control unit (hcu) test and had not experienced the failure listed in NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and that no failure was found. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 130,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while his daughter was driving in traffic and was making a complete stop while she was pressing on the brake the vehicle would not stop. The contact stated that his daughter desperately pressed on the brake pedal and felt the brake pedal touch the floor of the vehicle, but the vehicle would not stop, causing her to strike the hitch of the vehicle in front of her causing front damaged to the vehicle. No major injuries and no police report were filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact explained to the dealer that the vehicle experiencing the same failure as recall NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000(service brakes, hydraulic), the dealer stated that the VIN was not included in the recall and that there was no failure with the brakes. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure was approximate 150. 000.
Brake pedal going to floor extending stopping distance. Early in 2022 I took it in for recall s1954. Hcu passed test and dealer replaced dot3 brake fluid with dot4. 5/24/2022 brake pedal started going to floor again. Dealer performed self test of hcu and electronic bleed hcu and said pedal was somewhat better but needed $400 of brake work to for brake pads, lining and turn rotors. Car functioned fine for a few days. In early June I was driving on a wet street and put on the brakes. It appeared the abs system was trying to kick in and suddenly the pedal again went to the floor. I was barely able to miss rear-ending a city bus. I pulled into a gas station, turned the car off. When I started it again the brake pedal went to the floor. After pumping it a number of times it came back up and was again functioning. Took it to dealer on 6/1/22. Dealer again tested the hcu test which once again it passed. They could find no other problems. Dealers recommended replacing the abs modlule and master cylinder to the tune of $1,400. Seems like they can test and find out which part isn't malfunctioning (hcu which is under recall), but cant test to find out which part is malfunctioning (abs module or master cylinder) there is obviously still serious issue with the brake system on these cars that is not being corrected by the initial hcu recall. It needs to be fixed before someone is killed. There were no warning lights or messages relating to the brakes.
I took the vehicle in earlier this year for the recall on the brake system. They bled the brakes and said it was fine but now the brakes are just like they were before taking it in. I would assume that the hcu is bad but they did not want to change it out when they had it.
The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 mph and attempting to stop the vehicle at a gate, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to stop the vehicle. The contact engaged the parking to stop the vehicle. The abs, brakes, and traction control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the hydraulic control unit and abs control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,200.
The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving 25-30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but went all the way to the floorboard and failed to respond. The contact was unsure whether there was a warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she coasted the vehicle on a hill and turned off the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to three different independent mechanics who diagnosed that the braking system had failed. However, the failure was unrepairable. The contact became aware of NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) which she associated with the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the remedy was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the remedy was not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
Brake failure related to recall 19s54 which my vehicle VIN number was not included. All brake warning lights came on and traction control lights came on as well as brake pedal going to floor and unable to stop in time going over railroad tracks. Almost causing me to crash thru railroad crossing gates as train was approaching. I used emergency brake to stop vehicle. Lights remained on and very little brake peddle stoping now. Ford says vehicle is not one of the VIN numbers included in recall yet it is the same problem. Car needs to be flushed with dot 4 brake fluid brake fluid cap needs replacing and hud needs to be replaced for stuck abs valve.
Tail and brake light for the second time has failed. A safety function of this nature should not be this difficult to fix and replace. The item should be available and affordable. You literally have to take out a lone to get it fixed. So now I can't go to work or anything else with this vehicle. This is supposed to be an affordable car. So the only way for me right now to fix is park it. I hear one person say " well it's not like a wheel falling off " I said tell that to the person behind me. With all these distractions now, between phones and other fancy options on cars. I'm a truck driver so I know how important these warning devices are. It is time to set a new standard in how safety items get replaced availability and cost should never be an issue. !!!!!!!!! with out question.
For several years, my vehicle has had an issue with "extended brake pedal travel," making it more difficult to come to a stop with a reasonable effort, and increasing the likelihood of an accident. My vehicle has already been repaired for a prior recall regarding "extended brake pedal travel" (this "repair" did not fix this problem; in fact, it apparently passed the Ford-developed test, thus warranting no significant repair. My father is a Ford automotive technician and he was also surprised by this result. I suspect the Ford-developed "test" to determine whether there is indeed a problem was developed in Ford's favor and does not ensure the safety of the customer/driver.
