1 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2009 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/07/2017

I have been having an ongoing issue with my braking system on the 2009 Mercury Milan. It usually starts as having to activate the brakes fairly quickly (either slamming on the brake in emergency, or stopping over a dirt road or slowing over a speed bump). The brake pedal will activate the abs (pump 3-4 times) and depress clear to the floor without actually stopping the vehicle. Then immediately after and until I have the brake lines bled there is 0 pressure in my brake pedal (pedal continues to go to floor without completely stopping the car). I recently had the master brake cylinder replaced which only corrected the problem for a short time and have just had to take it back to the shop for the same issue. They told me everything "seems fine" and they can't find another issue with the system. Clearly this is a safety risk and Ford needs to do a recall on this issue!.

2 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2009 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

When braking hard, the brake pedal went down 2-3 more inches more than normal before I could brake the car. Added effort was needed to stop the car. The pedal returned to normal after 2-3 days. Happen two more times over months, but last time did not return to normal. Ford dealer replaced master brake cylinder, rear pads, and rear brake lines. Did not solve the problem. Brakes work, but added pedal travel still exists and added brake effort needed.

3 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2009 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

As reported by several other Milan owners , which NHTSA is currently investigating, my brakes are "soft". While in motion and attempting to brake, the petal goes to the floor, leaving me to only hope my car will stop in time to avoid personal or vehicular injury. I am a retired Ford engineer and know this is an fmvss, serious violation. I have taken it to three repair shops , including two Ford dealers, and each has told me I need a new hydraulic control cylinder which is about a $2000 repair. This repair cost is about half the current value of the vehicle. I am hoping that your investigation will force a recall repair at little or no cost to me. I purchased this vehicle new from Ford. Please advise any other actions I need to pursue.

4 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 05/18/2016

Several factors:9 months after purchasing new, accelerator stuck and was not part of the floor mat recall, dealer brushed me off. In oct/Nov 2015 braking system failed, mastercylinder had a crack in it and fluid was empty, this was at 62,000 miles. Yesterday brakes failed again, shoes/pads worn out, hub/rotor dented, bearings replaced, and was told not to drive until repaired, 64,000 miles currently on car. Also, the interior controls on the dash are starting to come loose from dash. I worry about my safety every time a drive this car. The outside looks great. I am the original one -owner. Very upset to be spending so much on a low mileage car. I have all my receipts for work performed. Informed corp. Ford yesterday and got a I'm sorry from dorothy. Vehicle was in motion on city streets each time of occurence.

5 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

While driving straight on an icy road, brake pedal went to floor and lost braking - pumping the brakes helped restore braking enough to get it to repair shop 1 block away - replaced abs brake cylinder at costs of more than $1000 Dec 2015.

6 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

When trying to stop the vehicle and pedal went to the floor. Have had the master brake cylinder, brake pads and brake booster replaced. Car still has a soft brake pedal that goes to the floor upon initial stop. Brakes will pump up after a couple pushes on the pedal. May not have that luxury in an emergency situation.

7 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 05/16/2012

05/16/12 I was driving at 30 miles/per hour, the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor without any signs in advance, I couldn't stop the car. Luckily it was where I worked. I pulled to the parking, stopped it with the help of the curb. Checked on the spot, it seems low on brake fluid, we added fluid, pedal seemed fine for couple of months. On 07/31/12, two months after the first incident, driving at the speed of 50, the same thing happened again. Couldn't stop the car, the brake pedal went to the floor. Luckily there is a garage by the side, pulled in and checked. Finding out the mass cylinder disfunction. Spend over 600 got it changed. Now I am scared, don't know what to do? sell the car? ( which I cant afford now) or waiting to be killed in the car or kill somebody else?.
