6 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 11/06/2019

This morning when getting on freeway, abs was activated due to snowy weather. After this, brakes needed to be pumped several times and the pedal pushed nearly to the floor for car to stop. Made it to work after narrowly escaping several potential accidents and sliding through a red light due to brake failure. Upon leaving work, brakes were still not functioning properly. The failure made it impossible to stop predictably. Once I returned home I decided to google the issue to see if other Mercury owners have had this issue. As it turns out, it is a massive problem for so many people. I cannot believe there hasn't been a recall yet. After reading so many accounts of accidents due to this issue I no longer feel safe driving my vehicle. I don't want to start replacing parts only to have the issue continue on as many other people have reported.

13 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 01/28/2018

My daughter hit her brakes hard while driving on icy roads, and thereafter experienced the brake pedal going to the floor and increased stopping distances. I test drove her car and experienced the same thing. Due to being a safety factor, and the fact we live in the midwest where traffic conditions are often slick, we felt we had to get the brakes fixed for her safety even though she didn't yet get in an accident. You cannot safely drive a car where the brakes are liable to fail at any moment you have to hit them hard through no fault of your own. This should be recalled!.

14 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/18/2017

The brake pedal had excessive travel. When pressure was applied to slow the vehicle, the pedal would not hold steady, but would drift to the floor. The vehicle would slow down and stop, but when slowing from a relatively high speed, it was necessary to "pump" the brake pedal. One would have to wonder if total brake failure would eventually occur. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. It was in the shop for several days, as no reason for the problem could be determined. Eventually they contacted Ford for technical assistance in diagnosing the problem. According to their tests, the problem was with the hydraulic control module, which was bypassing brake fluid internally, and it was replaced. While it has only been a few days since the repair, the brake performance is much improved. I checked online and see that there have been problems with Ford fusions and Mercury Milans having brake failure. I believe that this is a serious problem that could result in injury or death. Drivers of my vehicle, even after repair, anticipate potential brake problems when we drive.

22 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 03/02/2017

Everytime I hit a bump the abs kicks on and my brakes will not work. Brake pedal goes all the way down. My car has been to the dealership many times for this problem. I have spent about 1500 dollars and still have this issue. They have even told me that there is nothing wrong. My car is unsafe! now they are trying to charge me 1000 dollars to replace the hcu. After looking this up it turns out this is a very common issues with 08 milians. I am at my wits end with this. Ford needs to recall these cars. It gives the driver no warning that the brakes are going to fail.

23 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/14/2016

Shortly after being involved in a rear end collision, the car had an instance of the brake pedal going soft and hard to get the vehicle to stop without additional effort on the brake pedal. After doing some online research, I found an article that said to find a spot to get the car up to speed and force a rapid braking situation to get the stuck spool valves in the abs unit to release. I did this and the problem went away. I did this so that the car could be functional before going to the collision shop for repairs. At the collision shop, I asked for the cars brake system to be inspected specifically for this abs units issues, and even brought in a copy of the online research I had done. The Ford dealer that did the collision repair did not find any brake issue to correct. Now 6 months later with a recent snowfall that had left our area icy, the car's abs unit was called on for a slip condition while stopping. My daughter called me and told me about this event when it occurred, and I told her I would bring it back to the dealer that inspected it. By the time I came home to take the car back in, the car was again fine. I am wanting this issue to be pushed forward to force Ford to have the car repair the car, since it has show two separate instances of what I would call brake failure.

24 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/04/2016

On more than 5 occasions while driving on rough terrain or a wet surface my brakes went soft and failed to stop my vehicle completely. All incidents occurred while driving on a city street at the speed limit. The vehicle was taken to the mechanic two times after two separate incidents and there was no problem with the brakes found. After the latest occurrence I did some research online and found out there was a problem with the anit-lock control braking module. We paid a total of $1,095. 05 to have it corrected. I was driving in a residential neighbor going around 25mph, I began to slow down to drive through slight dip and then attempted to brake harder to make a turn. At that point the brakes failed immediately and I was unable to turn, I have to circle the block and push the pedal into the floorboard to get any response from the brakes. My children were in the vehicle and it was terrifying and highly dangerous to not only myself and my passengers but to others on the road. Look around the internet and there are many people who have experienced this problem, both on Mercury Milan and on Ford fusion. The problem seems to be a faulty anti lock hydraulic control unit. This problem has been known to NHTSA, Ford motor company and others since at least 2012; mechanic has fixed several of this specific part and says he continues to see this piece of faulty equipment in Ford products, specifically Mercury and lincolns.

30 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

It first started with the passenger rear tail light. The led brakelight failed, led lights are known to last for 20+ years and these lasted about four. After that a bulb went out, when the bulb was replaced it still didn't resolve the issue. There are two components to the tail light, an inner light attached to the rear trunk and a outer light on the actual rear body. First, the inner passenger went out, then the inner driver's and then the outside passenger. Now finally, the outside driver's side has started flickering. Doing minor google searches immediately returns results with other vehicles having the same problem.

31 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/09/2012

The 1st failure was ,after leaving a gas station, my brake pedal went to the floor without warning. I barely missed the car in front. After 4 months, the same thing occurred after leaving a highway at a light. Ok again for a few months, there was a 3rd incident, but I can t remember the details. I hit a small pot hole and the abs came on. I lost my pedal again. When I shut the car off, the system reset and it was fine. Now whenever the abs is used, I lose my pedal without warning. It no longer resets. My mechanic has to bleed the system to get my pedal back. Im afraid to drive the car in bad weather. I have had 6 or 7 brake failures in the last 18 months.
