Power Steering Failed Problems of Mercury Milan - part 1

Power steering has failed multiple times on the vehicle. The dashboard displays 'power steering assist fault' and the steering wheel is locked. This occurred both when the vehicle was stationary and in motion. Fortunately I was driving in a safe location each time, but had it been on a highway this would have caused a crash. There is a recall for this specific issue on 2011 Mercury Milans, but not on 2010 models.

Started my car up and it said power steering failed. . I cut the car off and waited then it went off. . . As I was headed to work the airbag light came on for the passenger side. . I pulled into the store turned the car off a while and started it back up the light went off before leaving work the power steering message popped back up I once again turned off the car for a while. . . I manage to make it home but a mile from my house the airbag light once again came on. . Please check into this. . I love my life and the life of my loved ones driving like this is very dangerous and this is my only means of transportation.

In addition, the power steering assist fault and cross traffic assist fault indicators were illuminated. The contact called bill brown Ford (32222 Plymouth rd, livonia, mi 48150, (734) 399-4244) and was initially informed that the vehicle was under recall; however, when she arrived at the dealer, the contact was notified that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer informed the contact that they would not repair the vehicle because it was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.

Driving at 50 mph dashboard screen displayed power steering assist failure and service advancetrac warnings, and power steering was lost. After car was turned off for approx 4 hours, when started dash displayed service power steering now and service advancetrac warnings, power steering was never restored.

The "power steering assist failure" alert came on, I immediately lost the ability to steer the vehicle. I was in heavy traffic at the time. I had to turn the ignition off and restart the car to gain steering control again. This happened a couple of time. I spent approximately $1,500 on repairs. The vehicle again is having the same same alert and same loss of steering control. There was not a recall on the 2010 Milan but there was on 2011 and other models. This is a very dangerous condition.

I was driving on a highway when all of a sudden my steering stopped and a message popped up power steering service now service advancetrac also my traction light came on. I had to pull the car over which was very difficult because I had very limited steering but thank god it was later at night and not much traffic. I had the car towed which I found out it was the power steering that had failed and the power steering is electrical. Upon research and reporting this to the NHTSA. I have seen this is a common issue and has already had a recall for this exact issue except the recall is not valid for my vehicle and many others who complain of this same issue. It is not safe to drive the vehicle like this and it is very hard to control where the car is going. They need to expand this recall it is unsafe to drive and is a very costly repair this repair costs anywhere from $2000- $2,300 and is going to create so much hardship for my family to get this repair done. I am hoping you will look into this and open another investigation and expand the recall just as you did with the airbag recall that my car was also not a part of last year yet it is a part of the recall this year for the exact same issue. I will never get another Ford ever again I have only three Ford in my lifetime and have had nothing but constant issues with all of them. Ford does not like accepting their mistakes and they need to realize this is an issue that exist with all of these models not just some of them.

I was taking on off-ramp from the freeway and mid-turn my power steering stopped working and it felt like the wheel locked up. Luckily I was able to brake and stop before going off of the roadway. The car is absolutely unsafe to drive in this condition and could have easily caused a crash as it happened mid-turn when exiting the freeway. In doing some research, I understand the 2011 Mercury Milan and Ford fusions have both been recalled for this electronic power steering module failure. My 2010 Milan uses the exact same assembly and the repair cost is significant as I've received quotes ranging from $1600-2100. My 2010 Milan has less than 63,000 miles and it is unacceptable to expect the owner to pay these repair costs on a vehicle with such low mileage. Please review the problem and extend the recall to include 2010 models which at this point would allow me to be reimbursed for the costs of the repair. I have no choice but to repair the vehicle and this creates a significant hardship on my family as well as any other people who experience the issue. Especially considering it is a known defect on the 2011 and 2012 model years. In talking with Ford corporate and my local dealership I understand that the NHTSA must issue the recall, not Ford themselves. I am sickened by this problem and can only hope the NHTSA will do the right thing and extend the recall to cover my vehicle.

Just returned back home from a vacation and was driving my entire family back home from the airport. The weather was nice so I had the windows down while on the freeway. As I went to exit the freeway going about 72 mph, I realize the steering seemed more difficult than usual, but thought nothing more and proceeded to make a sharp left hand turn of the freeway going about 35 mph. As I entered the turn, I quickly realized the power steering was not working, as I struggled to keep my car from crashing into the bridge wall. As we came to a stop I noticed a message displayed on the dash about a power steering assist failure and the traction control was off. I never heard the warning due to the road noise and was caught completely off guard. Had my wife been driving or the road been wet or snow covered, I am convinced, we would have crashed! my 2011 Mercury Milan has roughly 121,000 miles on it. After several days since, the power steering still does not work. My wife is afraid to drive the car as she can't even turn the car it out of our driveway as it takes considerable force to turn the wheel.

This is a safety problem that has happened to way too many people already.

Complete power steering failure!! my wife parked the car in the driveway on 12/6 as normal. The next morning she attempted to leave and the car had no steering. Car started and runs normal but no power steering at all. The car cannot be driven. I investigated posibilities that evening and checked all relevant fuses to no avail. I began researching potential problems via internet and was amazed to learn Ford knows about this serious issue. In fact, they have recalled multiple models and years but excluded the 2010 Milan even though it has the same steering system!!! I contacted the dealer where purchased and they offered no help except to tow it in and they will dignose. There is a plethara of complaints and investigations regarding this problem. All the information I've found is very clear. . This is serious problem and significant expense ! this must be addressed by Ford and corrected. They know the problem exists with this steering sytesm but are denying their responsibiliteis to customers for fair resolution!.

I stopped the car and turned it off. After re-starting the car the power steering worked. Beginning in July 2016, I began to experience a "power steering system failure" message upon starting my 2010 Mercury Milan. Given that it was an infrequent occurrence, I followed the manual's instruction to turn off the car, wait for 10 to 15 seconds and then restart it. This action would clear the error code, and I would be able to steer the vehicle. However, within the last few weeks, the error message has occurred much more frequently. Power steering failure: my power steering failed while driving and the advancetrac light came on. My wife was making a turn on city street when the failure happened. We have 87000 miles.

Power steering failure: my power steering failed while driving and the engine light came on. Driving the car was difficult while I was on the highway with my daughter in the car. I contacted Ford customer service and they are aware of all the complaints, but refuse to offer any good will program or rectify the situation. . I have 115,000 miles and I was told that the warranty was only 5 yrs. /60,000. I have read several complains on the 2010 Mercury Milan premier series.

Went to take my car out of the parking space. Went to turn and the power steering failed! could not turn wheel left or right! at the same time this happened a warning sign popped on my dashboard saying something about power steering failure. Not impressed at all. 2010, 11 and 12 models are all having this same problem! only one they recognize at the moment having a problem is the 2011 because apparently more people need to get into a car accident or killed with the 2010 and 12 models before they recall them! I am 7 months pregnant and feel fortunate I was not on the interstate when this happened and in a parking lot! I hope the "investigation" their working on goes by quickly before anyone gets seriously hurt!.

Seems very dangerous to be driving and only have 5 minutes before you lose your steering. Warning light was a car with curvy tire tracks. This needs a recall due to its dangerous implications.
