I was at a store for a while I came outside I crank my car put the car in reverse simultaneously the traction control light the abs system light came on along with the power steering going out I did see. This is all the symptoms of a recall but it is not associated with my VIN number now the dealership that has my vehicle has service three other recalls where is servicing three other recalls that has told me that now I will have to pay $3,500 for a rack and pinion replacement and whatever this recall causes for my brakes.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph the steering seized. The power steering assist and traction control warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The independent mechanic diagnosed the failure as the rack and pinion needed to be repaired. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealer had not been made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,000.

As I was driving through a busy freeway, my steering wheel just locked up making it very difficult for me to turn. I struggled and managed to pull onto the shoulder. I turned the engine off and turned it on a few times but it did not change anything. The fault message "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrac" did not go away. I drove the car to the closest mechanic shop. The mechanic mentioned to me that I have to replace the steering rack and pinion and perform a wheel alignment. He also mentioned that I may have to reprogram the power steering control module. He gave me a fat estimate of $2100. Apparently this same issue has been recalled by Ford on their 2011-13 models but not on 2010. I was surprised to read that and reputed companies like Ford does not take care of this issue for their valued (?) customers. The car is not worth putting that kind of money in it. I may just put that money as a down payment and get another car.
Power steering assist failure. In motion backing up no power steering. Electronic rack and pinion steering device. This same part was recalled on 2011 Mercury Milan. Recall should include 2010.
Rack and pinion malfunction - the power steering went out on my vehicle as my daughter was driving on a city street and approached a right turn. An inspection by my local Ford dealership proved that the rack and pinion had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. There is a recall on the 2011 year, and with all the complaints that are on file for the 2010, I do not understand why the recall does not effect this year as well.
On 2/1/17, steering went out. Almost hit CO-worker's parked car. No warning message or signal of any kind. Didn't understand what happened. Turned car off and then back on. Operated without incident. On 2/3/17, steering went out again. This time, "service power steering" message displayed followed by "service advance trak system". Turned car off and back on. Operated well enough to drive to local Ford dealership, where I was told that I would need a new rack and pinion ($2,800). Looked online to discover that this is a known safety issue by Ford as they recalled the 2011 and 2012 Milans for the same problem. My 2010 has the same components! there was a class action lawsuit filed against Ford in 2015 for this very same complaint. Both NHTSA and Ford need to step up and recognize the 2010 has the same safety hazard and its owners should receive the benefit of the same recall (#15v340000) that was issued for the 2011 and 2012 models.
While attempting to make a turn in an intersection the power steering suddenly failed on the car. Vehicle was traveling at approximately 15mph at the time of the incident. Afterwards the "power steering failure" and "service advancetrac" lights were displayed. Incident nearly resulted in an accident. This is a serious safety issue. Upon investigation I have found that the same issue occurred on the 2011-2012 Mercury Milan with the same part as the problem (steering motor sensor) that resulted in a recall for those model/years. As it is the same part it should fall under this same recall, however it doesn't. This part is contained within the rack and pinion system requiring replacement of the entire system at a cost of $1800-$2000.
