Lost power while driving, had to have the transmission replaced at a cost of $2,784. 40. Received letter from Ford regarding recall notice 11s25/NHTSA recall 12v-006. When I enter the VIN # on Ford's website, it states that my vehicle isn't under the recall.

38 Power Train problem of the 2005 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 10/06/2011

My wife was driving home with my three year old son when our mercurey Monterey lost all power and could not accelerate. This left my wife & son stranded on the side of the road. Now after doing a little research I have learned this is a very common problem with the 2004 - 2005 Ford/Mercury minivans. I am extremely upset with Ford motor CO. This should have been brought to our attention when we purchased the van from the Ford dealership. I went to the Ford dealership because I thought I could trust them to buy a safe vehicle for my family. I guess I was wrong & all they are concerned with is selling cars, it doesn't matter to them if they are safe or not. If there is any information of Ford covering the repairs on these vehicles please let me know. Times are tough & I really can't afford to replace the transmission in this van.

39 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 09/30/2011

While going down the highway with no warning van will not accelerate, [engine revs up but not move] was able to coast to a stop along a busy freeway ,had to have van towed.

40 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

It is a well cared for 2004 that all of a sudden started to have a little shake when accelerating. Once I got up past 50-55ish it almost went away. I assumed I had a wheel out of balance so when I had it in for an oil change a few days later, I had them do a rotation and balance. That really didn't fix anything and it got worse. If I was accelerating up hill(which I have to do a lot since I live at the bottom of a hill) then it was like I was driving over hundreds of broomsticks that someone had lay across the road. I took it to a shop (not my usual one, but it was very close to home) to see what they thought. They looked and said cv shaft. When I was able to get it into my regular shop two days later, they looked at it and said 'found transaxle output shaft bearing on right side axle very loose causing excessive movement with right axle. ' he said the right axle was basically loose where it attached to the transmission. They said they would have to research if it was actually a bushing or a bearing in order to tell me the repair cost. Monday morning I get a call saying basically I need a new transmission. Now the vibration isn't as bad, but is still there. It also feels like it is wanting to take off while I am driving at a constant speed. Not chugging out, but like all of a sudden it gets a little surge of power then stops. Almost as if someone else is tapping on the gas pedal, then letting off. This happens whether I am using the cruise control or not.

41 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 09/09/2011

Our family of five was traveling in the middle lane of a three-lane highway with the cruise control set at 60 mph. We encountered a hill and - without warning - the vehicle tachometer violently increased rpm and we began to slow down. Fortunately the traffic was light and despite the road construction, there was a shoulder to safely pull onto. While we are grateful that there was no accident and that everybody escaped any harm (especially our three kids in car seats), I would hate to think about what could have happened during "rush hour"쳜 with a tractor trailer behind me.

42 Power Train problem of the 2005 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 09/03/2011

Vehicle exhibited no transmission issues and was driving completely fine with no warning lights. I was entering the on ramp to I-95 when the car stopped accelerating when it should have shifted to second gear. When I pulled the vehicle over it acted like it was in neutral no matter what gear it was actually in. This could have been a horrible accident if it happened while I was on the interstate.

44 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 06/24/2011

I have a 2004 Mercury Monterey wit 71. 000 miles on it. I was driving home from church vbs June 24 at 10 pm with my kids going 55 mph when the rpms started reving up. I ended up in a really bad place that could've been fatal. We were in a curve on a high traffic road with a about a 3ft ditch beside us and I was not able to pull off the road. The only thing that saved us was my husband was still at the church and was able to get to us with some friends from church and helped tow the van to our house. There was no warning just stopped moving and rpms revving up. I have 4 kids and just paid a huge down payment on this van so I have no money to fix it. Ford is not standing behind their product. I have had two chevrolets in the past that didn't experience transmission problems until after 250,000 miles. Please help!.

45 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 04/11/2011

While traveling in heavy traffic on I-95 south at the connecticut/new york border at 55 mph the tachometer had a sudden and dramatic rise in rpm's but all power out to the drive wheels was lost. It was as if the transmission went into neutral. Luckily, we were able to pull off the highway and avoided being run over by a semi. After stopping on the shoulder with the brakes releasewd and the transmission gear selector still in drive the van proceeded to roll backwards down the hill we had to stop on. We were left in a precarious position between the guardrail and the cars and trucks still moving on the highway. Luckily we weren't hit by any passing vehicles! this was a very dangerous occurance. Being a common problem that has been continually reported to your agency and there is an ongoing class action suit againt Ford motor company for this problem, I think there should be some kind of investigation of this problem of this problem and Ford should be made to notify oi ers of this vehicle of the problem before someone does get killed or seriously injured. I feel this is definitely a safety related problem.

48 Power Train problem of the 2005 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

My wife and I had driven over to melbourne, FL on oct. 15 to attend grandson's wedding oct. 16. Due to my parkinson's disease my wife was driving us around the area on Sunday to see things since we used to live in melbourne. Right in front of our old church the van just stopped its forward motion and we were barely able to get to the side of the 3-lane road. A policeman directing church traffic pushed us off the busy road where we awaited tow truck. Since it was Sunday no repair shop was open so tow truck dropped off van in repair shop parking lot and then took us back to our motel where we tried to get a rental car but rental car places also closed and we had to wait until Monday to get one. Had to order in pizza for dinner. We had to add two more nights to our motel stay, had cost of rental car for that time and the transmission cost us $2238. 11. If this problem had occurred the day of the wedding we would have been in danger because we had to travel from cocoa beach back to melbourne motel at 11:00 at night on I-95. Sudden loss of power in that scenerio could have ended up being tragic.

49 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 06/05/2010

My wife was driving my 2004 Mercury Monterey around the perimeter of our local mall. Suddenly the van slowed, and she noticed the tachometer showed the rpms increasing as the pressed the accelerator. The van stopped dead. She had to call me to push the van into a parking space until we could have it towed the following day. The could have been extremely dangerous in traffic. I have a handicapped 19 year old daughter, and rely on this van for her transportation, so on top of the safety issue, this is a tremendous inconvenience for us.

50 Power Train problem of the 2005 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 10/19/2009

Driving n-I 275 suddenly lost power and had to cross 4 lanes to safety shoulder without causing an accident. Called husband to pick me up to take me to work. Then he had to meet tow truck and drive to dealer to repair van. To make a short detail of all the problems (this problem has happened 3 times since the first time ) (lost time from work ) (towing charges) (paying all for repairs ) (rental cars) (time spent to pick-up van, waiting for road services). Then told by Ford motor that most charges won't be covered.

51 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 10/09/2009

Traveling on cruise control @ 70 mph in left lane of 4 lane divided hwy. . . . Vehicle started to slow down and rpm increased. Coasted to a stop to the shoulder across heavy traffic. Engine ran normally but vehicle would not move forward or aft on its own power. Dealership ideed problem as sheared shaft in transmission. Tranny was replaced at my cost with a Ford rebuilt (has same shaft part that sheared in the original). Have received initial recall notification but nothing else. Bottomline: no luck to date on recall.

52 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 01/03/2006

Powertrain: front wheel bearings went out (squeeling sound) in 2006 with 8k miles on vehicle. A TSB was out for that issue and the wheel bearings(2) were replaced. The front bearings went out again in 2009 at about 27k miles. The vehicle was covered by a Ford esp. The dealer said that they couldn't hear the noise - the noise would come and go - so no repair was done at that time. I have the repair order stating "no problem found". Now at 35k miles the bearing noise has become much worse and much more frequent but now the warranty is over and it will cost about $700 to repair. What kind of poorly made bearings are these? body: in 2009 I noticed rust at the left rear wheel well area and it is now coming through the left quarter panel. There is also rust at the right rear wheel well area although it has not gone through the right quarter panel. Left and right front doors also rusting at the bottom facing the passenger compartment.

53 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mercury Monterey

Failure Date: 04/01/2004

I backed out of a parking space and attempted to put my vehicle in drive. The vehicle would not go and had to be towed. I am told by the Ford dealership that the transmission needs to be replaced and it will cost aprox. $3,000. 00.
