2 Body problem of the 2006 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 10/19/2019

2006 Mercury Mountaineer, 123,000 miles. Notice (bottom) of box subframe, located rear driver side only. Foward of rear axle, has excessive corrosion in a length of 8 to 10 inches. Corrosion has rotted through this area. Vehicle has 123000 miles on it. Also vehicle has surface corrosion all over bottom of subframe. Ford did not apply corrosion coatings on this sub frame properly. This could be a hazard for other vehicles as well as time goes on. Notice other Ford vehicles have numerous problems and recalls with sub frame corrosion, ranging from 2001 through 2014. Ford's vendors that fabricate these parts should be updated with modern procedures to apply corrosion prevented coatings on these parts properly. Should be a recall on these sections for repair. . . No accidents, no issues, as time goes on there maybe problems in the future with Ford products sub frame corrosion resulting in accidents on roads.

3 Body problem of the 2007 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

My 2007 Mercury Mountaineer never had any problems until recently, thought it was the transmission because of the way it drove. Took it to the mechanic and got transmission fluid put in but the problems remained the same and was told the transmission was fine. My thermostat housing unit was leaking (this is very common with these cars and very dangerous, needs immediate attention!) and had caused very expensive wiring issues. Almost acts exactly like the transmission is going out - rpm's are way too high, the vehicle would not accelerate in the middle of city traffic, the car jumped at a stoplight and caused me to hit the car in front of me, and it doesn't shift properly. Problems occurred out of nowhere and are too dangerous to be ignored but very expensive to be fixed. Its very common and should be recalled before someone gets seriously injured!!!!.

15 Body problem of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

I took my children to daycare came home and parked in the driveway. I came back out two minutes later and there is glass all over. The back hatch window exploded, it looks like it got really hot as some of the plastic trim is melted.

17 Body problem of the 2008 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

**I first noticed my tire pressure light came on upon purchasing my vehicle. The dealer said that the air may have been low and could fluctuate with the weight in the vehicle. He filled the tire that appeared to have been low and it turned off momentarily. A few days later it happened again and I would add air which alleviated again in the same tire, but for a few hours later it came on again which I found out ended up being an issue with all 4 of the tires. After several attempts of filling and refilling over a period of time and using "a filler" (can of air for flat tires) is when I knew then all 4 tires are defective. The air pressure goes on and off and has now stayed on! I am lucky if it turns off at all now! the tires are firestone destination a/t tires. **also the passenger side back panel (where the gas fill-tank hole panel is) was manufactured in properly as it is severely rusting, bubbling paint, and chipping away only but in this one spot. The rust size is the only spot on the vehicle in which is about the size of the palm of my hand. **I also have an outstanding complaint already with a very dangerous faulty cruise control on this vehicle which stales the vehicle and renders it uncontrollable while driving and in motion.

21 Body problem of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

Rear hatch panel cracked and large piece broke off and blew into traffic. Luckily traffic behind me was far enough back that the piece did not hit the car following. I had this panel replaced on two prior occasions due to it cracking. I believe it must be due to a defective design in the rear hatch panel that caused it to happen 3 times.

22 Body problem of the 2005 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

Transmission jerks . Have that crack in middle lift gate around emblem like I see everybody has . Lift gate window bolts rusted and one broke in half on the driver side back lift gate at top back window it cracked in half didn't know that when I noticed my warning light saying hatch was open I didnt noticed anything went too open and try to to shut it and when I lifted open the door the glass fell out and bent the hing that supports the whole rear glass I grabbed glass held it till others came to help me in parking lot glass was heavy im tiny petite girl so thank goodness for people who came to help me at store it was just hanging there and the other side was just as bad just didnt break in half at that point yet thank goodness or I think the whole thing would have fell to ground and shattered . Very expensive to fix at a dealer so my husband order parts at store and online for a lot less and fixed it himself so thats all fixed now. . Right after that we noticed same kind of car as our with same problem only they had it all duct tape and stuff to keep it together (probably because they found out how expensive it is to fix) I didnt think that was safe at all either. My cruise control stopped working had it replaced during warranty. My air conditioner sucks . Just last week the newest thing is my trunk lock wont open no matter what I do . I can only open the lift gate window thats it. But the whole back door wont lift open. Lock wont budge to open dont know why?.

23 Body problem of the 2006 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

Shortly after purchasing my Mountaineer the electric running board on the driver side began to make a grinding sound. Bought from a dealer in wa state and moved to WI state where the driver side stopped and the passenger side stopped extending/retracting. Moved to NJ and we had purchased the vehicle extended warranty. Began to sound like a knocking sound with little power and had towed to dealer. There they found all 8 spark plugs fouled, driver side had 3 exhaust manifold bolts loose. Passenger side had same 3 loose, but also had 2 broken off in exhaust manifold plus the manifold itself had a hairline crack. In the end, I paid almost $2,000 to have driver and passenger running board and motors replaced. The rear windshield wiper motor had gone bad and was replaced, the spark plugs and all manifold bolts (along with broken) were all removed and replaced.

24 Body problem of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 05/18/2013

The left rear hinge pin on the glass lift gate failed.

25 Body problem of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 05/11/2013

Rear lift gate is fractured from the window down around and through the emblem. There is no recall for this problem.

26 Body problem of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 05/04/2013

The hinge pin on the rear lift gate window on my 2004 Mercury Mountaineer snapped. Fortunately, the right side hinge held, preventing the entire window from falling to the ground. I did manage to get it closed despite the fact that the entire lift gate slipped downward from its proper position. This seems like a very dangerous defect, especially since the added stress could easily break the other hinge.

27 Body problem of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 03/22/2013

Was looking at my vehicle when I noticed the crack from the top to bottom of lift gate, next to Mercury emblem. No accident or collision, it was sitting in my driveway. After reading online there are numerous reports of the same exact occurrence on the lift gates of fords, Mercury and lincolns. Please issue a recall in fairness so that we may all have our vehicles repaired!.

28 Body problem of the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

When lifting up rear window section (top half of rear door) the hinges broke causing the window and it's frame to fall down. Window frame was barely hanging by piston supports.

29 Body problem of the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

Back hinges broke allowing the glass to fall.

30 Body problem of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

Rear hatch back glass body-side hinge broke on right side in normal opening of glass. Hinge is composed of a black plastic or nylon retaining clip with a metal pin. The plastic appears to have failed from fatigue. Recent high heat (100+ degrees for several days) may be a factor. Plastic broke through over the pin channel, allowing the pin to pop out. The glass is heavy and torqued by the remaining hinge and two hydraulic lifts. No injuries, but easily could have fallen, broke or shattered on the operator. The heavy glass is a danger especially to children or smaller adults. The operator fortunately had a wood slat in the back big enough to prop up the glass and support it until help arrived. Even with two adults it was hard to hold and control the glass to close it and take to the dealer. Retention clip really should have embedded metal reinforcement around the pin. (the larger expedition appears to have just that in the equivalent part. ) reading online there are many cases of similar failure that included damage and or at least minor injuries. Repair was $270 at a Ford dealer. Appears to be common enough failure to be a design flaw not to be repeated. Admittedly this appeared on a high mileage nine year-old vehicle which has otherwise provided very good service, but the weight of the falling glass and torque involved were both dangerous and could easily have resulted in serious injury. Operator felt lucky to catch and control it without breaking the glass or getting hurt.

31 Body problem of the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 05/04/2012

Ford has a TSB on their website for the problems I am having with my vehicle. I contacted tyem and I was told that I have to pay for the repairs. What I do not understand is if there are sooo many complaint from consumers on this vehicle for the same issues is that not the responsibility of the manufacture being it considered a defective product? I have to children and this is of extreme concern to me that these issues on my car can cause an accident. -back trunk door is cracked down the latch. -the car doesn't shift correctly and tires seem loose -the overdrive light is blinking all the time and the transmission is signaling. . I have found so many websites with complaints about the same issues on 2003-2004 Mercury Mountaineers.

32 Body problem of the 2005 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 11/14/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that the rear lift gate exhibited a quarter inch crack from the bottom of the rear window and down to the bottom of the rear hatchback door. As a result, water was entering the vehicle through the crack. The contact stated that the rear of the vehicle had strong odor of mold. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 74,848.

33 Body problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 10/26/2011

The rear hatch hinge broke as I attempted to close the hatch. The hatch then slammed down on my head. Fortunately, I was not injured - a little dazed. My local dealer replaced the hinge for $230. I contacted Ford hq service but they refused any concession. I had a similar incident in January 2005, and Ford replaced the hinge at no cost under recall 04s20. Obviously, the original replacement was not a permanent fix.

34 Body problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 10/23/2011

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated the rear lift gate on the vehicle was cracked from the top to the bottom of the lift gate.
