The car consumes too much oil. This is not mentioned in the car manual. Without enough oil, the car's engine would seize up and stop functioning. Driving with low oil in the system can ruin the vehicle's engine, completely breaking the motor.

Took car into Mini dealer for clunking noise problem. Dealer indicated motor mounts were cracked and needed to be replaced. Another customer at dealer was also having motor mounts replaced. His car was also 4 yrs old with 32k miles on it. Mount replacement was not covered under warranty as the car was 4 yrs and 3 months since warranty was activated and coverage ended at 4 yrs.

Driving at approximately 10-15 miles an hour entering a parking lot when I noticed flames coming out of the hood scoop of my 2005 Mini Cooper s. After brief inspection from my mechanic, it is believed to have been caused by the wiring harness for abs or possibly the power steering unit since the fire originated from the rear/right hand side of the engine and those two components. I have a claim opened with usaa but during simple research, I have found tens, if not close to a hundred issues with similar characteristics. I know I am not the first r53 Mini Cooper (2002-2006 run) with this problem and this should be considered a hazard and public safety issue. I have included the link to many of the cases captured by the north american motoring association (a primarily north american Mini car association) which details 24 pages of these issues. . The harmonic balancer aka crank damper went on my 2016 4dr hardtop 1. 5l Mini Cooper. Has 73,000 miles on it. It has been sitting at a garage now for almost a month waiting for BMW to have the part in stock (tentative date avail. Sept. 20, making it 2months wait time) tried every possible 3rd party parts dealer & not 1 harmonic balancer is to be found. I was told this part had already needed to be upgraded & modified making it a faulty part to begin with. Was told by garage it’s a common part to go on these cars. 1st my warning light came on saying the battery wasn’t holding a charge. Beings that I was 2 blocks from my house I drove there & as I was getting to my house another warning came on saying “carefully pull over & let engine cool” so I parked it & had it towed to garage to avoid any other issues.

The contact owns a 2015 Mini copper the contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2010 Mini Cooper. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was a rattling sound heard with a burning odor detected. The vehicle stalled without warning. The check engine light warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer performed an oil change and the check engine light was reset; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and diagnosed with engine failure after failing the smog test. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was 104,000.
This car was maintained, by Mini and BMW authorized mechanics and only had oem parts installed and followed management of vehicle as directed by manufacturer, throughout its history. It was always driven and kept in moderate weather conditions, no extreme heat, cold, wet, or speeds. Used almost daily for 30-60 minute commutes. Just after 100k miles, total engine failure was suddenly experienced on the freeway, due to combustion in two valves, damaging two cylinders and sudden leaking of the exhaust system under the hood. The manufacturer, bwm, has been shown evidence of malfunctioning of the four cylinder engine and will not show evidence of their grounds for why they will not take responsibility.

Check engine light comes on. The vehicle is giving code 1b8302. This code is for environmental air sensor bus communication error. There is an extended warranty issued by Mini for other models for the exact same issue. Dealership/Mini will not cover the cost to repair my vehicle as it has been excluded from the extended warranty. I would like to highlight again that the warranty was issued for the same issue I am experiencing. I have the same engine and the vehicle was manufactured during the same years the warranty was issued for. My vehicle has less than 44,0000 miles on it. There is clearly a defect. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide in holding Mini accountable.
I have made several attempts to reach out to dealer. The check engine light came on the same day I purchased car. I brought the car back, the dealer said they would replace it, but couldn't do the work that day. They provided me with a false inspection report. They never followed up with me after several months had gone by and several phone calls had been made with them refusing to return my call. The car turns off on its on while driving. The brakes are also not good on the car. I had to get an oil change, wiping blades after a month of having the car. The ac fan is also not functioning. I would like to escalate this issue, because I am unable to pass my state inspection as well as feeling unsafe to drive a car that can turn off anytime on the road while driving. I waited to take to inspection because I was waiting on the dealer to communicate when they will replace the part. After several months of refusing to respond to my phone calls and emails. I have decided to report their intentional negligence. I also purchased a warranty. Through this company epovo auto group. I have not received a follow document certifying my warranty purchase through them. Uncertain of legitimacy of this warranty as well. I have filed a complaint with bbb and federal trade commission. I have not received a response. The following failed inspection codes: p0014, p0015, mil command.
Timing chain defective.

Repeated experiences of sudden engine operational failure and reduced and/or complete loss of power while driving. The engine malfunction indicator lamp comes on. Car stalls and stops in traffic on the highway and on streets blocking traffic. Will not start again until powered off for periods between 5-15 minutes if at all. -first experienced the issue February 2020 and have intermittently experienced the same issue ever since. -occurs when driving at a variety of speeds and a variety of fuel levels. -if diagnostics were able to reveal an issue both fuel pumps were noted as the cause on different occasions. The high pressure fuel pump has been the most diagnosed and repaired issue. -car has been diagnosed by the dealer and 3 independent service repair shops. Dealer stated no recall or existing issue that would cover this problem and have not received any notifications from the manufacture.

Hello, yesterday afternoon I started my 2009 Mini Cooper and noted that my gauges suddenly failed. The tach dropped to zero. Suddenly I received a tire pressure warning light. I decided I would move the car to a more favorable location to look under the hood. As I placed the car in reverse I noted that my power steering had failed. I stopped the car immediately and popped the hood. I immediately noticed the smell of burning electrical equipment. I ran down to the basement to grab a wrench to disconnect the battery. When I returned I could hear pops and cracks and noted char on the hood interior. Though the keys were out I continued to hear pops and cracks and felt heat accumulating . I finally got the battery disconnected and the popping stopped. After some investigation I found that the wiring near the power steering module was completely burnt out. The car drove fine the day prior. My wife is 38 weeks pregnant and I am shaken by the idea that this could have happened while she was driving the day before.

Turbo charger has systematically failed over the last year, with worsening effects. This causes the car to automatically go into "limp mode" and cuts power. This is dangerous for driving on the highway. This is a common complaint with Mini Coopers with many, but not all years recalled.

Engine has developed the "death rattle" at low rev and low temperature , indicating a failing, defective timing chain and tensione.
Thermostat housing fault code came on while driving. 2014 Mini Cooper hardtop models have a recall. My VIN # does not. Please investigate this and initiate a recall for my VIN.
My car started off with a rough idle and occasionally wouldn't start. The engine light came on and the car became jerky while driving. It has sudden spurts when it wants to take off. I ran the code and got p0012. From there I have replaced multiple parts but I think I landed on the timing chain. I know there was a settlement with these years but for some reason this particular model wasn't included in the settlement.
Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that while at the local dealer orlando Mini Cooper(350 s. Lake n. Destiny dr. Orlando FL. ) for maintenance the contact was informed that the engine mounts were cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 52,000. Jft.
Light is coming on and transmission shifts smoothly but when you decelerate it bucks down. It happens anywhere on the roads when driving and you decelerate. The light that indicates issue with transmission, in the book it says I won't be able to shift out of park but there is no issue shifting out of park, so not sure if it is considered electrical or if it is powertrain.
2010 Mini Cooper s 2 door, up to date with all maintenance and service, changed oil every 4,000 miles. Car showroom quality. At 81,000. Miles I shut it off in my garage and later went to start the engine, it was dead and would not turn over even with a charge. I had it towed to braman motorcars, wpb, FL where I purchased it new and original owner and was told it is the retention chain. BMW of n. America had a class action suit for 2007 to 2010 Mini Coopers, suit closed in 2015 said my VIN was not part of the class action suit and refused to fix my car. They want 11,000-13,000 to fix. I am within the years the suit was mentioned my mileage is right at the point it makes mention in the class action suit. My VIN # is not included because they only paid on the VIN numbers that were in the suit. BMW of n amer. Did not add VIN# of other cars that were not in the suit. I was never contacted and did not know about my car. I am told I can junk it and buy a new car. I took care of my car for everything and now my car is just gone and they are not wanting to help me fix it. BMW of n America did not off any goodwill on the repair nor make it a recall issue. They just settled the case for the cars known at that time and the rest of us can just go pound dirt! I now am without a car or transportation and braman motorcars tried to take advantage of me with quoting me high prices on a new car, that I cannot afford. Please help. No one that knows me or my car can believe this has happened to my car because of how well I take care of it.

Excessive carbon build up on engine intake ports at 35k miles. Car purchased new, has oil changes by dealer every 5k miles, and is filled with 92 octane gas. Lots of people posted on internet over last 7-8 years that Minis are prone to this issue and BMW hasn't resolved it. When asked if this should be routine maintenance, if this was driving or fuel issues, dealer said none of the above. Yet resolving this issue is about a $600-1000k repair! this either needs to be a routine maintenance, recall or service bulletin put out to owners/dealers. BMW needs to own up to this issue.
I took my 2015 Mini in for its last service before converting my lease into a financing deal and purchasing car. I was informed there was an engine recall due to crankshaft bearing problem. They have know about this issue for 2 years yet never informed me. My dealer says they have done hundreds of engine replacements. Why is this not public? I think bmwusa is hiding this from the public! while its nice they replace the engine, this is going to effect my resale value.
These 2012 Mini Cooper clubman are having the timing guides brake and sometimes ruin the engine. In my case I think I caught it on time, I called Mini here locally and my warranty runs out this September 2017 or 100,000. But my car just hit 105,000, this is an issue that Mini have had for quite a few years and I saw a recall up to 2011 but haven't seen anything for 2012 Mini clubman. It's hard to believe that BMW/Mini went with plastic guides instead of some other material that could withstood more beating, specially for this area. Thank you for any help, because I'm having to fork out any wheres between $1500'to $3000. 00!to get this fixed. I was driving when I heard the noise and now it sits in my driveway.
Cvt transmission sticking in 2nd gear.
Defective timing chain. Vehicle lost power while driving on highway.
Half engine light come on during driving while change lane on the freeway, and going up hell. Not losing power turbo working fine. Dealer replace vacuum pump but not fix the problem. Half engine light come off when you drive from park while pressing the gas pedal increasing rpm to 15oo, on the freeway or up on the hell the half light come back on. Dealer can not diagnose the problem.
The contact owned a 2003 Mini Cooper. While the vehicle was parked in the parking lot, the neighbors noticed that it caught fire and called the fire department. The police arrived and filed a report. The fire department extinguished the fire. The police informed the contact that the fire originated from the engine. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

The contact owns a 2008 Mini Cooper. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle lost all power and all the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that something was loose in the engine and that the engine needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
We parked the car and 3 hours later is was on fire. It seems to have emanated from the power steering pump area but cannot tell with all the fire damage. The car is most likely a total loss.
On 2014 a class action lawsuit was filed against BMW of north America for claims regarding Mini Cooper models. Answering your questions as follows: -the failing component was the timing chain tensioner -yes, engine stalled at any speed -no, dealer did not acknowledge the real problem -no, dealer did not told me about the class action lawsuit, did not advice me of any preventive repair or to install a new timing chain tensioner, when the component failed dealer told me that the problem was a jumping timing chain ; the same excuse as in the lawsuit. -there was only an engine light, not any other warning light there were two repairs, the first for $ 2,629. 10 on 6/18/2016 the second for $ 3,354. 93 on 1/13/2017 dealer had a two years parts and labor warranty that didn't honor and in 2016 the lawsuit was active and not of my knowledge. My question if the production numbers engraved on the timing chain tensioner cylinder face match or are part of the production batch from the factory for which the class action lawsuit took place ? numbers top line: 7565868 80-02 lower line: iv/ is germany 3 1 0 this is looks like half cero all components (parts) and the vehicle are available for inspection. Once engine is out of timing pistons will hit the valves (interference engine), in my engine broke at least one valve seat, pieces fell into combustion chamber getting stuck between pistons and cylinder walls scratching these, result lost of compression, engine die. Engine was beyond any repair, and still was charged for. Lawsuit for vehicles manufactured goes to April 2007 mine was February 2007 neither the Mini Cooper dealer or BMW north America corporate offices paid any attention to my complaint.

Recall id #167856 the vehicle was in motion on a highway and it began to smoke, heat and smoke began to arise from the engine after I just picked it up from carmax and was reassured that the car was fixed after paying +900 dollars for my vehicle from being in the shop to not be fixed. VIN number is wmwml33519tx36083 I believe my copper is apart of this recall that occurred in 2012 I leased the vehicle in March 2016 and not even a year later is my car able to drive as the incident described above occured sometime in fall/winter 2016.
