43 Steering problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 08/24/2016

Electro-hydraulic power steering system recall. Mini company and dealership refuse to tow our car for repair. We recently experienced this issue of steering "freezing up" - severely limited, on the highway, which was scary and did not feel safe. All dealerships require driving on the highway from our home. Dealership stated that it was safe to drive, but I do not agree, having experienced the problem first hand. Mini refuses to tow because it was not part of the recall. Please note: incident date is an estimate. Will get actual date ASAP. Note: this steering limitation has also happened last winter when trying to steer the car out of a parking spot. I was not able to move the steering wheel (1/16). Called dealership, but did not have new part in stock yet and did not know when it would be available. Car did not do it the next time (few days later). Dealership never contacted us to alert the part was available (as it now is).

55 Steering problem of the 2015 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/12/2015

In Nov-2014 my son was driving our '05 Mini Cooper down the interstate at 55mph and all of a sudden the steering stopped working. He was barely able to control the car and get it to the side of interstate. He was 17 yrs old and it was very hard for him to steer it and get out of traffic. He was extremely frightened. We then got the car to a repair shop (not the local Mini shop, since their labor rate was too high), we had to pay $1,201. 75 to repair the steering. After receiving a letter regarding the steering recall from Mini corporate in early 2016, we were told to call/go to the local Mini dealer and they would handle the claim. After several calls, emails, and a personal visit to the knoxville, TN Mini Cooper dealer, I have got nowhere. They refuse to handle the claim (once telling me that it had been submitted to Mini corporate, but then it turns out they admitted that it never was submitted). . . Then most recently basically they told me to leave them alone. They will not give me proof that the claim was submitted (which I am guessing it has not been), and now they will not answer my emails. Carol hwang at knoxville Mini has been very rude and uncooperative. They refuse to give me a contact at corporate, as I've requested, to confirm the claim has been submitted and to follow up on getting reimbursed for this repair related to the recall. When I called corporate Mini, they said I have to deal with the local Mini shop. Local Mini shop in knoxville says corporate will handle the claim. So I am getting nothing but a run-round. This incident was very scary for us! my son could've been killed when the steering went out. He was terrified and thought he was going to get hit and crushed by a semi truck. The whole thing was awful. Now all I want to do is get reimbursed for the repair, but I cannot get Mini Cooper to Cooperate. Please help.

63 Steering problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/28/2015

While backing my car out of my parking space this morning I went to turn the wheel and it seemed stuck I then realized I had no power steering. I had parked the car the night before and had no indication that there was a problem with the steering. As I backed the car out without power steering I almost hit two cars trying to control the vehicle, I was able to park the car without incident. There has so far been no recall on the steering and apparently I'm not the first person this happened to.

65 Steering problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

The steering has started to become extremely unreliable and the car starts to lose control at about 50 miles per hour. At first the problem was slight but it is becoming more difficult to control the car at highway speeds. This situation seems very similar to a complaint that has led to a class action suit and the recall of some Mini Coopers. Unfortunately our VIN was not on the list, although it appears that Mini Coopers from 2002-2009 have been affected.

66 Steering problem of the 2004 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

I was driving around 40 miles per hour and the car abruptly slowed down then sped up without any warning, if another car was behind me, it would have caused some serious damage. Now my car wouldn't shift shift out of first gear. I was told by my mechanic that the cvt transmission is gone. After reaching out to Mini USA, they told me they haven't had any problem with this transmission and it's pass the warranty date. If the folks at Mini USA had been honest with me I could have made the deadline for a settlement pertaining to the same problem they claimed they had no idea about. This product need to be recalled! after doing extensive research the cvt transmission have had problems all along and the company have been settling claims for quite some time. Why are they allowed to run hard working folks into death because they know most of us can't and wouldn't pursue this matter. It will cost me 6500. 00 for the part and another $2200 for labor, the car is now valued at $5500. 00. It there something wrong with this?.

67 Steering problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/11/2015

I was driving on the highway. My car swerved to the right. I pulled left to correct the car and it began to fishtail swerving left and right and I was unable to control the car. Suddenly it went off the road, hit the guardrail and down a small embankment and flipped over. The car came to a stop upside down with the rear window smashed and snow in the car. I was minorly I jured with a small cut on my face and bruises on my right side.

68 Steering problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/05/2015

8;30 am three car intersection accident. Traffic light controlled 4 way intersection, auto traveling south bound ran red light and collided with two cars traveling east bound through intersection at approx 35 mph. . 1st car impacted Toyota Mini van drivers side. Force of accident so severe that it forced Mini van into my auto. The Mini van impacted my Mini primarily into my drivers side door. All three vehicles had to be towed from scene of accident. My Mini Coopers drivers side door demolished. Force of impact so great the it bent the frame underneath the drivers door 3-4 inches according to the repair facility it was towed to. Vip auto body. The window that was approx 1/3 open shattered the window. I sustained injuries to neck, back, shoulder and right side of head which hit the door panel upon impact. I have done extensive research since this accident and there are several air bags and side door impact bag curtains in the Mini Cooper and none of them deployed. There is an actual sensor in the middle of each door to activate the air bags, obviously the one in the drivers side door was not working. This car supposedly has a 5 star crash rating according to Mini USA and my original window sticker. I contacted Mini USA the day after the accident, and they instructed me not to have any repairs done until one of there tech's came out to inspect the Mini and do a diagnostic check of the air bag system. I did so. The tech came out 5 days later, and a week after that the results came in and Mini USA said everything was working properly as far as the air bags. Liars. Anyone with any common sense can see that the air bags should have deployed with the force of this impact. They just don't want to take any responsibility for this accident. My Mini Cooper was deemed a total loss. Any investigation into this accident would be very appreciated maybe even saving a life in the future . . . . Updated 04/23/15.

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

The power steering on my 2004 Mini Cooper, base, sporadically quits working, especially in cold weather. I was told by Mini dealership that it is a known defect but they will not replace it until it fails completely. Very sub-par customer service, as they know it is a problem. Unhappy.
