1 Vehicle Overheat problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

At 89,044 miles my 2009 Mini Cooper, purchased from vista Mini suffered a catastrophic coolant loss due to a cracked thermostat housing, and as a direct result the vehicle severely overheated irreparably damaging the engine. I was driving along the turnpike at highway speeds when the warning indicator light for the engine temperature came on, and before I could safely pull the vehicle over the vehicle rapidly slowed to a veritable crawl (allowing me just enough time to get it off the road). The vehicle was ultimately towed to a Mini dealer for inspection, but they determined that it would need to have the entire engine replaced. Which would be a rather costly repair, requiring an outlay of funds far greater than the vehicle's value. Thereby substantially decreasing the likelihood of completing the required repairs. I purchased the vehicle believing it to be a quality product, and one capable of being driven for many years to come. However, the experience I suffered severely shook my confidence in the product, so I began to do my own research on the cause of the failure. It turns out that not only Mini engines, but also those manufactured by BMW, share a similar defect, in that they both are prone to the thermostat housings cracking and causing rapid coolant loss. Couple that with the well documented criticism of the location of the coolant sensor in the engine, and you have created the perfect nucleus for generating a cataclysmic meltdown of the engine that lies secretly hibernating within the product line. Therefore, I do not feel that it is fair for me to have to bear the burdensome cost of repair for a problem that is endemic to the product line as a whole.

2 Vehicle Overheat problem of the 2003 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/30/2012

The contact owns a 2003 Mini Cooper. The contact was traveling 55 mph when gray smoke emitted from the under the hood of the vehicle as the power steering failed. The check engine warning light illuminated during the failure and the vehicle over heated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was confirmed that the harmonic damper had detached from the engine. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 79,000.

2008 Mini Cooper - my temp light came on/yellow and thinking just low and added more coolant. But it keep giving me the light signal. I didn't see any hole or is not dripping any coolant. On 01/06/12 I called Mini Cooper of loveland colorado to take my car in for service because my temperature light came on to yellow and then red. I was told by the Mini Cooper dealership, I have a hole in my coolant pipe and no one knows why. So, on the way home, my car starting to smoke bad and my car stopped running. It over heated. The last people touched my car was 6 months ago to get my oil changed from the Mini Cooper dealership. What's weird about it, how and why did I get a hole and why my car over heated? please I need help with this because now, it's costing me over 2500 to get my problem fix.

4 Vehicle Overheat problem of the 2002 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 06/26/2007

While driving home from work in the 2002 Mini Cooper the car had about 70,000 milles on it and I noticed the temperature gauge going up, and assumed my car was just overheating. I pulled into a service station and put some water in the coolant reservoirand the temperature gauge returned to normal, so I continued to drive. After about 10 minutes I noticed the temperature gauge increased again. I pulled off the highway and into a parking lot. When I opened the hood, I saw flames. By the time the fire department arrived at the scene th e car was too far gone to save. I contacted Mini regarding this issue. They asked for my VIN, approximate mileage, and contact information. I sent them this information, but have not heard back from them.
