1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2014

I¿m an owner of a Nissan Altima 2004 2. 5 (brought the car brand new). Today while driving on the highway, the check engine light came on. So I quickly got home and ran the diagnostic tool which returned codes p0035 ¿ crankshaft position senor and p0725 ¿ engine speed sensor malfunction. I found many and similar complaints by Nissan Altima owners with the crankshaft. I called Nissan USA and they offered no assistance. I informed Nissan USA that there were previous recalls on the crank angle senor (item affected: engine and engine cooling, date announced: 7/7/2006). Their fix was to reprogram the ecm but the issue is with their crankshaft. Per research and online, there are many issues with Nissan¿s crankshaft position sensor which could affect the engine/stall the engine. It¿s a matter of time, where drivers¿ safety and a person¿s lives are at risk. If the engine stalls while driving on highway or on any road could cause serious harm or fatal death due to failed crankshaft position sensor and/or camshaft position sensor. Please investigate and get all Nissan vehicles¿ with faulty crankshaft positon sensor recall and fix ASAP before it¿s too late!!!.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, which was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the ecm would have to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 06v242000 (engine and engine cooling) and contacted the manufacturer, who stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

3 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2013

On 7/29/2013, my 2004 Altima was losing power, feeling like it was going to stall on a major highway heading towards work. The issue was doing the same on the way home and the check engine light came on. The next day I took car into a local repair shop. The mechanic ran a test and it said I had a misfire on number 4 spark plug. He pulled out the plug and gap was pushed together. All four spark plugs were replaced. The car ran fine until later that night and the same issue was happening again. Took back to local repair shop. He got the same reading, misfire in spark plug 4. He pulled out spark plug and the gap was pushed together. We looked up to see what could be causing this. We found other were having a issue of a screw can come loose from the power valve intake. He told me to take to dealership which I did on 8/4/2013. They did their own test and even scoop the engine and dealer found that there was a screw missing. They found the screw missing had come from the power valve intake in the power valve. Even found part of the plate has broken and entered the engine. I did some research and found there was a recall on such issue. Since I purchase the car in 2011, not sure if the pervious owner had the issue taken care of. But since it happen I dont think they did. The recall campaign id number is p5202.

4 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2013

I was driving down the interstate going 60-65 mph, with my girlfriend and my newborn daughter. The check engine light came on, the car shut off and the engine stalled with a river of traffic surrounding around me. After about 10 minutes the car finally started back up & ran fine. A few days later the car became harder to start and the engine shut off on the interstate once again. I got the engine code, checked out and it was p0340 (cam shaft position sensor). Upon further research I noticed that this is a very common nationwide problem. Not only does the engine stall while driving, it completely causes the motor to shut off! the motor in a vehicle shutting off while going down a jammed interstate or going across railroad tracks is extremely unsafe and it is unacceptable to not get recognized. After experiencing this horrible situation, and viewing the countless people who have experienced it as well. I am flabbergasted the cam/crankshaft sensor for the 2002-2005 Altima has yet to be recalled. The chance of the part being deficient is abnormally high. The part is incapable of performing it purpose, because once repaired it continuously has to be replaced. Nissan does state that this is a deficient part and there is a service bulletin on it. But a service bulletin does not do anyone any justice when the sensors have to be replaced once a year!!.

5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

In Dec 2012, the catalytic converter was damaged and was removed. The check engine light came on and mechanic told me that would happen. Less than 30 days later, butterfly valve and 2 screws were sucked through engine's intake. Dealer told me camera inserted into engine and screws not found but due to butterfly valve, screws and plate missing so diagnosis was sucked in through intake due to massive damage to engine. I purchased the car with zero miles on 2/28/04 and had it serviced (oil change) approx every 3 months at autoway Nissan clearwater, FL. The car ran perfectly, and as you can see, 87,000 for a 9 year old vehicle is exceptional. The car was in perfect shape and running smoothly even after the cat was removed. There was no other event to coincide with my engine blowing up. Dealer never mentioned any recall, wanted $5000 to fix engine only, no converter replacement mentioned. Was told to forget about the car. Dealer offered me $500 and a new car. I'm a single mom with 2 kids in college. Having to use my entire tax return to fix the car as cannot afford a car payment. Not a happy consumer. Was a loyal customer for 9 years. Do I have any recourse? is there a class action suit in the works?.

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

2004 Nissan Altima engine failure after only 35,000 miles. The engine consumes too much oil (leaving sludge and metal shavings in the pan). Took to dealer because the check engine light stayed on. Was initially told that the oil need to be changed (changed prior to this event approx. 3,500 miles before this event). Was charged $2,300. 00 for oil change and other maintenance. Had to take the car back because the engine light came on and stayed on again. Was told the engine was no good and to get rid of the car. This could cause overheating and fire. My research has shown that some 2002 & other year Nissan Altima's had the same problem. Nissan consumer affairs offered absolutely no help or offers of any kind. Nissan consumer affairs strung me along for almost two months and then with a phone call (after I tried to contact them several times for updates to no avail, I was told they could not help me. Was told to either purchase new engine ($4,500) or get rid of the car by the dealer. Prior to this the car was well maintained, especially oil changes. The car is 1 year out of the warranty period.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2009

Nissan recall ro606 for 2003 and 2004 Altimas and sentras with 2. 5 liter engines to reprogram the ecm electronic control module since the crankshaft position sensor may cause the engine to shut down while driving if it cannot take a proper reading. My car has shut down several times and some while traveling 45 -55 miles per hour which could be very hazardous when on a congested 3 or 4 lane highway as I travel daily. This is much more dangerous and far different than the recall states that it only happens at low speeds. I had the ecm reprogrammed per the recall but still have same issues of the car not wanting to start the engine light is on and a scan of the computer (ecm brings up code that the crankshaft sensor is faulty however replacement of the sensor isn't covered by the recall and the reprogramming of the ecn doesn't fix the issue. Many Altima owners have had the exact same problem and had to pay out of pocket to purchase and install a new crankshaft sensor to fix this dangerous problem of the car shutting off while driving or being stranded because it doesn't start once it shuts down.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2009

04 Altima just turn off doing 65mph on the i5. I was fortunate that it was not in rush hour and did not hit anyone in front of me , but the car behind me was not so lucky he had to run out off the fwy so that he would not hit me. Engine light came on right after. I have researched on the net and there are hundreds maybe thousands of people with the same dangerous problem. (ecm, crankshaft , and camshaft sensors) gone bad. I called dealer and they will not even diagnose the car with out charging for the inspection and charging almost $600. 00 for a problem that Nissan should cover as a recall.

11 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2008

The crank angle sensor was recalled on my Nissan 2004 Altima. I took this in to the dealer and it was fixed. . . . . . . Except 2 weeks after my car began to do the same the it was already doing. It goes dead when I am pulling away at a red light or turning. When I take it back, they just reset the sensor switch and within 1 weeks my check engine light is back on and the car starts going dead on me again. I am nearly been ran over my other cars due to this issue. I think it's just a matter of time before someone gets hurt if this type car. I have done internet research and there are many people who are still having this problem after the recall.

12 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

Car shut down while driving. There was a recall to reset the ecm that was causing this problem. I was unaware of this recall but now learn that if I had brought my car in to have the system reset I would not have been out any money. But now that the problem has arisen and the car shut down on me, this caused the "check engine light" to come on. Now I must pay to have the sensor replaced not just reset.

13 Check Engine Light On problem

17 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2004

I purchased my 2002 Nissan Altima in December of 2001 with 4 miles on it in mid October. Since that time I have taken it over and over to the Nissan service department because it cuts off on me out of the blue. It cut off first going down a hill, the wheel just locked and it shut down. I immediately I contacted passport Nissan and sheey Nissan in maryland and was told to bring it in on the next day. Nissan service department said we can't find anything wrong at this time. A few weeks later it cut off again I had to push it off the road. I called Nissan1 USA the following day to report this they said to take it back to a Nissan dealer. Nissan 1 USA does not provide any kind of support, guidance or solutions to this problem. I have contacted them on several different times and made mention to a case number that they gave me but for some strange reason they could never find my case number and I have to restart this whole boring procedure over again. I have had my car towed into the dealership at least 4 times for this problem. The dealer maintains that they could not find or duplicate the problem. The check engine light came on and my car at 20,000 miles and still remains on until this day which currently has accumulated 100,000 miles (unfortunately due to my line of business I need daily transportation to travel back and forth through cities and through states) my car right now (correction Nissan piece of car) right now would not accelerate over 30 mph. It continues to cut off and whenever I take this to the dealer they could find nothing wrong with it or dont even provide a rental car and I have to pay for different things that they say might be the problem. I have told the dealers and Nissan1 USA that I am not paying for anything else. As a result of this incident, I missed work and business with important clients. Samuel a merrin 301-535-7005.
