Service engine soon light appeared doing highway speed. Garage replaced cam shaft sensor. 2 weeks later the light appeared again. Garage replaced crankshaft sensor. Problem resolved but this seems to come up time and time again with this year and model. When light was on there was severe loss of power since the bad sensor was confusing the onboard computer. Dangerous situation demonstrating need for recall.
First of all I noticed on 06/07/11 that my 2004 Nissan Altima3. 5 se passenger floor board has a big rust spot which is about 11 inches by 7 inches, but the rest of the floor board is in pristine condition. Huh. Also the timing tension chain tensioner went bad on 05/01/12, with 86000 miles and had to be repaired which was a very expensive to repair, and saw that this is a common problem on the Altima 3. 5 l engine. Hmmmm. And then, the car kept on stalling out going down the road, was told it was the cam shaft sensors, and had to have them replaced, now my service engine light will not go off, but engine is running good now. I bought a new 2012 Altima 3. 5 sl back in December 2011, kept the 04 Altima, most of these problems happened five months after buying the 2012 don't think.
Tl- contact owns a 2004 Nissan Altima. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and the service engine soon light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact was able to start the vehicle after it stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians stated the crank shaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The dealer stated the repair was not covered by warranty. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the crank shaft position sensor was replaced. The failure occurred a second time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there was a recall NHTSA campaign id number: 06v242000 (engine and engine cooling) but the vehicle was not included. The contact stated the failure occurred intermittently and usually when the weather was cold. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.
Nissan Altima 2004 with about 77,000 miles. Was part of recall for ecm and I had this done at the dealership winter of 2006. Was to prevent car from stalling. This recall did not fix the problem. 12/31/2009 service engine light came on was told it was the crank shaft sensor. Car stalled while at a stop light without warning. Numerous complaints on the internet about this issue Nissan Altimas - 2002 to 2006. Many people have the sensor replaced only to have the same problem again. Very dangerous as the car appears to drive well and it just shuts off. Have not contacted dealership yet for repair, sent an email to Nissan. Recall for ecm to reprogram to prevent stalling, but the real issue seems to be the sensor that causes the car to stall. This is a real safety issue. Nissan should recall all Altimas 2002-2006 and have this problem fixed before someone gets killed.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Altima. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and shut off in the middle of the road. The vehicle took approximately five minutes to restart and the steering wheel was difficult to turn because the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign id number 06v242000 and Nissan recall number r0606, but the dealer stated that the service engine light was illuminated. A diagnostic test would have to be performed before the dealer could repair the recall issue. In addition, the crankshaft would have to be repaired at the cost of $200 before the crank angle sensor could be repaired. This did not make sense to the contact so she called the Nissan manufacturer, but they will not return her call. The failure mileage was 91,000.
Ckp "crank position sensor" trouble code found when service engine light comes on. This looks identical to issue found in recall 06v242000.
I was driving my girlfriends 2004 Nissan Altima 2. 5 down the highway on 2/15/2008 when the transmission down shifted and then directly upshifted hard. I got to my destination and tried to restart the car when I left it cranked longer than usually, in fact unusually long but it did start up. I got back on the highway to go home and while getting on the on ramp to the highway the car shut off and the steering wheel locked up and the service engine soon light came on. I did what I could to get the car to the shoulder and waiting a couple of minutes and tried to restart the car. I did get it restarted and took city streets to autozone to have the codes read from the service engine soon light. I had 2 codes, one being p0725 and p0355. I once again took city streets home to avoid the same thing happening going 70mph. I got it home that Friday the 15th and put it in the garage. I got online and went to Nissanclub. Com and researched the problem. I found out that the p0335 is the crank position sensor malfunction and that caused my code of p0725 being the engine speed sensor. Through researching this is a very big problems with the 2002-2006 Altimas, mainly the 2. 5 4cylinders. Nissan issued a recall for the 2002-2005 and 2006 Altimas but failed to include the 2003 and 2004 in it. Now why would they not put the same faulty sensors in the 2003's and 2004's and skip ahead and put them in the 05's and 06's. I went to the dealership on Monday the 18th to verify her car was not included in the recall and it wasn't. This is Nissans deliberate attempt to not take full responsibility for the faulty crankshaft position sensors put in the 2002-2006 Altimas. I paid for the $30. 00 sensor, also another $30 sensor that is recommended replaced with the crankshaft sensor and spent 3 1/2 hours outta my day to replace the hard to get sensor. It is my belief that Nissan needs to include the 2003 and 2004 Altimas in the recall with the 2002-05, 06.
I own a 2004 Nissan Altima, in April 07 I experienced the service engine light coming on and I took it to a dealer and paid to have the crank sensor replaced. I subsequently received a recall letter for the same problem and contacted Nissan where I was told that I was eligible for a reimbursement. After faxing all the relevant information, I was told after waiting 3 months that I was denied a reimbursement because the recall time had lapsed. I don't think I was treated fairly as nowhere in the recall letter it stated any expiration date. I do believe I am due a reimbursement. I would appreciate your looking into this matter. Thanks much yvette buckland.
Car stalls and stops running on a day basis while being driven and servic engine soon light is on. Nissan dealer reprogrammed ecm, car still stalls, service engine light soon still on. I have almost been in several accidents due to car quitting and power brakes and steering shutting down while driving. Nissan not taking care of problem.
