The crankshaft position sensor (cps) was not responsive when the repair shop was testing the vehicle because of the "service engine soon" light came on. After a short search online they 1. ) had no signal to the cps from the pcm 2. ) that there was also a voluntary recall by Nissan for this issue covering this make an model. I called Nissan and told me that the recall wasn't for that car but the vehicle was in fact built in the years covered and also had the exact issues the recall covered.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

Just as dozens others have already filed as complaints I have had several issues with the camshaft/crank shaft position sensor. Originally this sensor went bad in June, 2008 at 49,000 miles. I had the sensor replaced and the ecm reprogrammed according recall 06v242000. I contacted Nissan north America and filed a complaint and after some back and forth they agreed to cover the cost of the repair (approx. $500). On March 3rd, 2010 at 70,885 the car would not start so I had it towed to a certified repair shop who diagnosed it with a bad camshaft position sensor again. The repair cost me $265. Clearly there is a consistent problem with these sensors and reprogramming the ecm is not a proper fix. Apparently even replacing the sensor once (by a Nissan dealer) does not fix the problem. Nissan needs to step up and take responsibility for their poor choice in components and provide a permanent solution and compensation for affected consumers. I will be contacting Nissan north America again.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Altima. The contact received a recall notice regarding the ecm. Through online research, he found numerous complaints regarding the crankshaft and cam shaft. These two components cause several vehicles to stop running without warning after the recall repair has been performed. The contact feels that this will happen to his vehicle after the ecm is replaced. His vehicle has shut off while driving and he feels that this will not remedy the issue. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 45,000.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2008

I own a 2004 Nissan Altima. On September 2007, while driving along a busy highway in arizona our vehicle lost power. The car was serviced at Nissan dealership for a recall on crankshaft sensor. The recall stated that it was only to be re-programmed but we chose to replace the part instead. Starting on October 2008, the "service engine soon" light came on and the code read "camshaft position sensor". I have read a recall for 2003 Nissan Altima NHTSA campaign id number : 03v455000, the description of the consequences match exactly on what is happening with my vehicle. We purchased the vehicle on October 2003 and it was manufactured on June 2003. My vehicle should be included in this recall.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2008

I own a 2004 Nissan Altima and there's a recall on a sensor in the engine that causes the car to shut off while driving and without notice. I called the recall number and I was told that my car was not on the list for the recall. I explained on how that was possible if it was doing exactly what the recall was for. Then I went to the dealer to have them look into it but, I was told that I had to pay the service, why I don't know, I paid $330. 00 for something that was recalled and has been posted everywhere on the internet where recalls are posted but, I was still charge. Now I don't think that was fare. Will be the last time I buy a Nissan car.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2008

Car died at stop light. "check engine soon" light came on. Car would not restart. Cam sensor was found defective by repair shop. Internet search found this to be a recall item for 2002 and 2003 model year Altimas, but not 2004 model year. Failure of this part on the highway is a safety hazard and may be affecting later model years. .

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2008

A recent 15k mile service interval reveals that I have 2 motor mounts which are the fluid type are leaking badly and need to be replaced. I feel this may be safety related as it should be considered a major vehicle component. Many blogs reveal numerous motor mount issues on several Nissan models that use these fluid type mounts. I find this very unusual since I only had 47,500 miles on the vehicle when I had this service done in June 08. One of the service advisors I talked to did indicate he has seen many failures of these motor mounts as well as the crank case sensor which Nissan did replace at no charge but refuses to replace the motor mounts. I would like your input as to whether this may be viewed as a safety issue and also if you have received prior inquiries into this very premature issue. Thank you, jim weeks.

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Altima. While driving approximately 65 mph, the engine suddenly shut off. The contact waited five minutes to restart the vehicle, but nothing happened. He tried again fifteen minutes later and the engine turned on and everything worked normally. Two weeks later, he received a recall notice regarding the crank shaft sensor and ecu module. The dealer reprogrammed the ecu module and replaced the crank shaft sensor. The contact was charged for the crank shaft sensor replacement. The recall number was unknown. The current mileage was 35,000 and failure mileage was 33,000.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2007

This is the second time the diagnostic test has reported the crankshaft sensor is bad. This causes the car to hesitate, quit going down the road & not to start. We replaced the sensor & within 2 days the ses light was back on. The car ran fine for about 6 months then back to the same thing!.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2007

To whom it may concern at NHTSA: I own a 2004 nisan Altima with a 2. 5l engine. I recently received an owner notification letter from Nissan north America for a safety recall due to the potential that the engine might stop running while being driven due to an electrical problem between the crank angle sensor and the electronic control module (ecm). This could result in a crash without warning. The notice further advised that my Nissan dealer would reprogram the ecm, free of charge. This service should take about 1 hour to complete. I made arrangements with my dealer to have this service performed on my Altima. While in for this service, I was called by the dealer and notified that several unrelated service items were found. They did not force them on me but did they did take the opportunity to 'sell' them. . . . Better gas mileage (clean throttles) and brake performance (replace brake fluid). Well, the free service to 'reprogram' the ecm, turned into a service bill in the $450. 00 range. The list cost to reprogram the ecm was $58. 00. So, I avoided a $58 charge but was 'sold' additional services so Nissan actually generated close to $400 in revenue on a 'free' recall. The NHTSA recall number is 06v-242. It occurred to me that if 100,000 other concerned Altima owners responded to the recall, were 'sold' similar 'needed' service, Nissan would collect $40,000,000 in service fees. . . . . A minor reprogramming recall could turn into a large profit generating machine. I wanted to share my situation with you because this simple scheme, if indeed employed, would take advantage of the public and make publicly-owned corporations like Nissan a profit windfall. I can be reached at 856-649-4785 or gapsnet@comcast. Net if you would like to contact me or discuss this situation further. Thank you for your careful consideration. Sincerely, greg paranto.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2007

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the vehicle has a safety recall for the crank positioning sensor. The contact at the scheduled appointment, was denied the service because he would not pay for the diagnostic test.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2007

Car wouldn't start on several occasions in early 2007 (February timeframe). I brought the vehicle into a Nissan dealership. They said there was a recall and the ecm needed to be reprogrammed. After that was done, I brought it back in 2 days later and they said the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. I paid them to replace it ($152. 07) and the issue of not starting has not since reappeared. I have since found that recalls for this make/model have been issued for model years 2003, 2005 and 2006 of the Altima to have their crankshaft position censors replaced, but not for 2004 Altima.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2006

I am the owner of a 2004 Nissan Altima. Presently the engine needs repairing. I took my car to crown Nissan in greensboro,nc to be serviced. After a diagnostic test, the servicemen informed me that my power valve screw came loose falling in the engine causing it harm. I asked about the recall on this vehicle I was informed there was none at the present time. This occurred on Nov 16th, 2006. He informed me that the price to fix it was between 500-4000 depending on the extent of the damage. After some research I came across other Nissan Altima owners experiencing the same problems on Nissanhelp. Com. I recovered a past recall on this vehicle with the stated problem. I called Nissan and they told me my car was not included even though my VIN number is stated in the report. I am trying to reinstate this recall due to the false statements I have received from Nissan. Thanks. Tiajuana bennett greensboro,nc 336-334-2951.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2006

"engine service soon light" came on and took car to the shop on 10/31/06. At the time it came on there were no running problems. Nissan dealer replaced rear 02 sensor and diagnoses and reprogrammed engine control module. On 11/20/06 (less than three weeks later) the "engine service soon light" came on again. Prior to taking the car there were no running problems. Nissan dealer checked vehicle and called me and said that they need to run another diagnostic test for another fee. When I went to the dealership the vehicle was idling up an down and would accelerate on its own without touching the accelerator. P2135 throttle position sensor found, replaced sensor and cleared codes. I was charged on both occasions for a total of $668.
