The approximate failure mileage was 98,000. Lj.
We have received several recall notices involving our Nissan Altima 2013 involving the takata airbags. The recalls have not consisted of anything significant. Throughout the process of these recalls (I believe 2 or 3) our airbag light on dashboard as well as on the center console has intermittently come on and off. We have taken our Nissan to a local Nissan approved dealer for all of our reviews/repairs. Approximately 6 months ago we again took our vehicle and the dealership indicated the light was on due to our car battery being low. This was not the case. My husband used a reader and the car's battery was perfectly fine. Just recently on Tuesday we again took our car in because the airbag light has not turned off. They have indicated that our side airbag is not working, therefore all of the airbags are off and not properly working. The estimated repair for this is $1500 (not including tax). This issue with airbags has been an ongoing issue. Nissan has not made any efforts to fix this problem other than a band-aid recall. The airbags have never been deployed. Finally, I received a class action notification that this vehicle is listed as a eligible member of this class action. . Read more...
Within the last month (October 2018) my airbag indicator light on the dashboard has come on and stays on constantly. This indicates that the airbag may not deploy in a crash, and could possibly mean the difference between life and death. The light came on with no warning, the vehicle has not been in an accident of any kind. This has to be a malfunction.
My "vehicle was previously recalled to reprogram front passenger occupant classification system (OCS) electronic control unit (ecu). " I took my car in for the recall to have it taken care of, but now I'm still having issues with the OCS. Currently, the driver side airbag light is on, indicating that it is not functioning properly. In addition, while the car was in motion and I was sitting in the passenger seat, the passenger side airbag light was lit up. This indicated that the airbag was off, despite the fact that I was sitting in it. After taking the car into the dealership, I was informed that I needed a new OCS control unit as well as two OCS sensors. I informed them of the previous recall on the OCS; however, they said this was a separate issue, so I was going to have to pay around $700. Nissan originally said in a letter that, "if at any time within the next 15 years, the OCS system in your vehicle does not perform as described above, we urge you to please schedule an appointment at your nearest Nissan dealer. The dealer can check the OCS system in your vehicle and, if needed, perform a one-time retrofit to the OCS system free of charge. " since the OCS is still having issues after the original recall, I thought it was imperative to report this huge safety issue. I was informed that the airbags might not deploy if I were in a car accident, which could cause unnecessary injuries or even death. Clearly there are still unresolved issues with the OCS that need attention.
Airbag light is on solid on dashboard symbol located in the middle shows airbag off on passenger side I was told my VIN is not listed on the recall list. This is a safety issue and needs to be resolved. Not after the fact if air bag may or may not deploy. I should not be charge for a diagnostic. When make, model and year has been recalled already.
My airbag sensor light is on and will not go off. This didn't occur until several months after, I had the passenger sensor light airbag detector worked on. With all the factory recall, I feel as if this need to be checked into. I would hate to have an accident and the airbags do not deploy if needed. My brother-in-law is a certified mechanic and he have repaired or towed several Nissan Altima that the airbag did not deploy during an accident,.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. While driving 35-40 mph, the contact looked down and, by the time he looked back up, he was rear ending the preceding vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The police were called to the scene and a report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to pugmire Lincoln of marietta (1865 cobb pkwy s, marietta, GA 30060) where the dealer informed the contact that it would be a couple of days to determine if the vehicle was a total loss or if it could be repaired. Prior to the crash, the contact noticed that the passenger side air bag indicator was illuminated at all times, even when the passenger seat was occupied. There were no recalls associated with the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 95,563.

I took my car to dealership because my passenger air bag light was staying on they did a diagnostic test on it and found out it was the air bag unit that was the problem they said if I had someone sit in the passenger seat in the front the airbag would not deploy if I got into an accident I did some research and found out that there was a recall on this for the Nissan Altima in 2016 for the same problem when I talked to someone they said it was not my VIN number all I know is that something needs to be done about this I cannot afford to get this fix when I know that there was a recall on this issue.

Vehicle was moving on a city street when it was hit on the driver side door by another vehicle. Side air bags did not deploy after recent recall work regarding srs was performed. Please see attached documentation.
I was in an accident and the air bags did not deploy. My children and I were injured. I serviced my car at Nissan for the airbag recall twice. I received a recall from NHTSA and Nissan wouldn't comply. Every time I've taken my car for the brake pads to be serviced I only need rotors never brake pads! the driver side door handle broke for no reason what so ever this car is a clunker!.
I was in a accident where I hyroplanned and the back end hit a ditch and my car went onto the median on the freeway and I totaled my car and the airbags did not deploy.
The contact owned a 2013 Nissan Altima. While the contact's vehicle was at a stop light, it was struck head on by another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained head and neck injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,437.

The contact sustained major injuries to the sternum, which required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was 36,000.
The contact owned a 2013 Nissan Altima. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle revved and accelerated without warning. The contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not respond. As a result, the contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The driver sustained injuries to the pelvic, both legs, head, teeth, and. Medical attention was required. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the OCS warning light remained illuminated. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The passenger sustained head and neck injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was driven to the contact resident. A few day later the vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. We have had multiple incidents in this vehicle of the front passenger seat airbag light not extinguishing, indicating that the airbag is not armed, even with an adult passenger seated and buckled. We have dealt with this issue on and off for as long as we have had the car, despite the recall last year apparently designed to fix this issue. I decided to file a complaint today based on a news article I saw this morning that indicates that this is an ongoing issue for many drivers of this vehicle. There does not seem to be a logical reason why sometimes the light goes out and sometimes it stays on. The concern is that the passenger airbag would not deploy properly if it is ever needed.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt failed to lock and restrain the driver. A police report was filed and the contact sustained chest injuries . The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an inspection was done on the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 13,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The passenger airbag light turns on when a passenger is present, meaning if in an accident the airbag will not deploy. The dealer has had the car in 5 times for this issue and is not able to repair it since now the vehicle will not give a code to fix it. I was able to get Nissan north America involved and they said the vehicle is repaired, how do I feel safe having a passenger in that seat with out certainty that airbag will deploy in an accident. When we met with craig belle, from Nissan north America, the engineer, he stated that this airbag is under rated and causes more harm than good. Why would an engineer from the factory say something this ridiculous, this is why we bought the car. . For the safety ratings and all the airbags. He stated they only cause black eyes and broken noses, to which I said "its better than the alternative. . ,death. I am not feeling safe in this car and hope someone can help us get it rectified. Thank you for your time.
Had recall for passenger airbag light performed in June. Have had multiple occurrences of the pass airbag light turning on with an occupant in the passenger seat since the recall. The latest happened yesterday with my wife seated in the passenger seat. Its beginning to concern me that in the event of an accident the passenger airbag will not deploy. Judging by the complaints on this issue this is still a problem that Nissan hasn't been able to fix. Nhtsa needs to reopen an investigation for this issue.
The contact owned a 2013 Nissan Altima. While at a stop, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The rear driver side passenger sustained a head and hand injury that required medical attention. The driver also sustained a head injury that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000.
Airbag sensor doesn't work properly. While the car is in motion, the light turns on warning that the airbag will not deploy when a person is buckled in the passenger seat. My VIN is not included in the recall but I've noticed this issue for over a year. My Nissan dealership ignored my complaint a year ago when I asked them to look at it.
With 130 - 140 lb passenger in front passenger seat, dashboard indicator signals that front passenger airbag will not deploy. Vehicle has been returned to dealer for recall service under NHTSA campaign number 14v138000, but this did not resolve the problen.
My wife's vehicle was stopped on I-95 about a car length behind a minivan that had also stopped for debris in the road, a Toyota pickup truck hit the rear of her car at speeds in excess of 60mph pushing her car into the minivan in front of her at a speed of at least 30mph, the srs airbag in her car failed to deploy and quite possibly the seatbelt as well. My wife struck her head on the vehicle's left side roof support beam and suffered a concussion, whiplash and other lesser degree injuries as a result. It is my understanding Nissan has had issues with srs failures in 2013 Altimas.
Other driver ran a red light hitting the side of my car doing over 50 mph and the side impact air bags did not deploy.
Adult passenger sitting in the front passenger seat. Airbag light indicating the air bags will not deploy goes on intermittently. Had the latest recall fix applied several weeks ago but this problem was not fixed. Been to the dealer 3 times for this problem.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while traveling out of an apartment complex approximately 15 mph to make a right turn, another vehicle crashed into the left side of the contacts vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed. The contact sustained injuries to the neck and shoulder. The vehicle was to be inspected, diagnosed and repaired. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign id number: 14v138000 (air bags). The contact experienced the failure before being notified of the safety recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
Making a left turn when I was almost finnish my turn when I was struck by a motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the passenger rear door of my vehicle spinning my vehicle around. Caving in the door the airbags never deploy. My passenger lost his eye do to glass shatter in his face and eye!!!!.
Air bag deployment. The passenger side air bag will not deploy if the person sitting in the passenger seat weighs below 130 pounds. According to Nissan the sensor will not activate if the person sitting in the passenger seat weighs below 130 pounds. Therefore if we were to get into an accident which requires airbag deployment, it will not deploy. My partner weighs about 110 pounds. According to Nissan the NHTSA mandated this and can not change the setting.
1. I purchased a new 2013 Nissan Altima sl in April 2013. After couple of weeks I started noticing passenger air bag off light is always on, whether a passenger sits in passenger seat or not. I went to dealer, they told that there is a recall on passenger airbag sensor and they were waiting for new sensors. After couple of months they received new sensors and they installed it in my car. 2. After installing new sensor I started noticing issues with airbag again. My wife weighs about 110lbs-115lbs, I see 'passenger airbag off' light is on in following scenarios with my wife in passenger seat with seat belt fastened. A. After starting the car 'passenger airbag off' light supposed to on for 7 seconds then go off. But it stays on for a lot more time than that (more than 15 minutes) some times it goes off after 15 min/ 30 min, some times it is always on. This doesn't happen always but happens almost 2-3 times out of 10. If I restart car it works normal again. This happened driving in various speeds from 0 -70 mile/ hour. B. When driving, all of a sudden 'passenger airbag off' light comes on stays on for a while. Sometimes it goes off after 15 minutes approximately, some times it stayed on for more than 30 minutes. This happens in very random manner and doesn't always happen. This happened driving in various speeds from 0 -70 mile/ hour with my wife in passenger seat with seat belt fastened. I have took my vehicle to dealer 2 times, they checked but said they couldn't find anything wrong. Performed 'passenger weight sensor' reset 2 times suggesting it may fix the problem. But it didn't help. I am still driving my car with weird bugs like this. So in case of accident passenger airbag may not deploy when required, please take an action on Nissan to fix this serious safety issue.
The car was traveling between 25-30 mph when the driver swerved to miss a deer that had jumped out of the woods. The car went off the road and into some trees and a rock wall. The front end of the car was damaged pretty extensively (total loss), with damage to the drivers side fender and a direct impact to the center of the vehicle pushing the interior bumper approx. 10" back and into the radiator. The airbags did not deploy during this crash. We had been told previously that Nissan had a recall for the passenger air bags, and when it was brought to the dealer, nothing was done because they ran a report stating that our vehicle was not due for the recall. After showing the dealer pictures of the damage, their response was that "they couldn't believe that the airbags didn't deploy, and that "they believed that they should have". I have pictures of the damage, and I also have video evidence of my daughter sitting in the passenger seat with the airbag light on stating that the airbag is off. This was shown to the dealer prior to the crash, and still nothing was done to investigate the issue further. When I showed the gm of the dealership the video, and told him that nothing was done to repair it, his response was "god forbid that anyone of us got into an accident and the airbags didn't deploy'!! a few weeks later. . . . That's exactly what happened. I believe there is a huge problem with the airbag systems of these cars, and something should be done before someone is severely injured or killed during a crash.
The light that indicates my passenger frontal air bag will not deploy is coming on when a normal sized adult is in the front seat. Apparently, this is tied to a sensor which is supposed to disable the air bag if someone has a small child (between 30 lbs and 80 lbs) in the front seat due to the increased risk of injury with an airbag deployment. When I first bought the car, it happened approximately 10% of the time I had an adult in the front seat. I have taken my vehicle into the Nissan dealership twice for this issue. Once I was told that it was inspected with no issues found. And the second time, the dealership performed a re-programming of the computer according to a TSB from Nissan that they had on file. Since the re-programming was done, the frequency has increased to roughly 30% of the time an adult is in the front seat. The size of the passenger is irrelevant. It happens equally often when my 135 lb wife is in the front seat as it does when my dad or father-in-law (both roughly 180 lbs - 200 lbs) are in the front seat. I love the car, but this safety issue needs to be addressed. The previous recall/TSB has not resolved or even improved the issue. It actually made it worse.
The orange passenger air bag light (underneath hazard lights button) comes on when a full-grown adult (150 lbs) is seated in the passenger seat. This means that the airbag would not deploy if I crash with them in the passenger seat, which makes me very nervous about safety. It does not happen every single time, but about 75% of the time a full-grown adult is seated in the passenger seat. I've taken it to Nissan dealers, and they have not been able to fix it.
This is an ongoing issue. Purchased a brand new 2013 Nissan Altima in April. The passenger air bag light turns on when passengers sit in the seat. This has been happening since the first few days of the purchase meaning the light signals and notifies the driver that the air bag is not active or engaged. This denotes that an airbag will not deploy with a passenger in the seat if an accident were to occur. Each time this light has come on I have set up an appointment with mydealer to have the issue fixed. The diagnostics check does not show an error and is unable to determine the root cause of the problem. Therefore the sensors have been reset each time, but does not fix the issue. Multiple appointments were made to correct the issue, but none have rectified the situation. I have asked for the car to be replaced numerous times, or correct the issue. None of which has been fulfilled. The request for a replacement has been side tracked by bringing the car in for another look to find the problem. At this point my window of time for a replacement has passed due to trying to find a diagnostics error code. A claim was filed with Nissan corporate consumer affairs, but no update or progress has been made in over two weeks. As of today the 11th day since my last reported issue, the claim associate is just now starting to look into this. The claim was closed without my knowledge stating I could not be reached, but no phone call or message was missed or left from Nissan corporate. I have called the dealership multiple tomes each day looking for an update or resolution and certainly would have promptly called consumer affairs back due to the severity of this safety issue. At this point no one is able to give me any indication of next steps. Whether that be replacing the car, or replacing parts to make my existing car safe. Any questions please call 302-983-9793. Thanks. Aimee graham.
