1 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

Takata recall (for one problem) airbag light came on - took in and they said the switch under passenger seat had become disconnected - fixed by Nissan dealership within two days, airbag light back on - took in and they were getting codes for driver seat airbag - Nissan recommended replacing air bag diagnostic unit. Within another two days of this repair, the air bag diagnostic unit giving same code. Now, recommending replacing driver seat airbag. Dealership indicates that while these error codes are firing, the airbag system would not go off in an accident.

2 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2016

The passenger side airbag activation mechanism in some of 2013 Nissan Altima doesn't work properly. Nissan already had two recalls on it but they never able to fix it. Even if someone is sitting on passenger side, the airbag light on the dashboard is activated randomly, that means airbag will not open in case of crash. It is a very serious flaw. In the recent recall they simply made a s/w update to flip the airbag light switch on/off logic. Nothing was done to fix the core issue. It again randomly switches on/off when a person is sitting. I have talked to Nissan and they don't seem to care about it. They are just trying to hide or circumvent this issue or trying to tell customers that there is no issue at all. It has been more than three years and Nissan is not fixing this issue . Everytime they will say it's fixed either after recall or repair but in reality they are just trying to circumvent it through s/w upgrades.

3 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

The passenger airbag light turns off (light switches on) even when a passenger is in the carseat. The problem was consistent around 1. 5 years back and there was a Nissan recall that resolved the problem after 2 attempts. By consistent, I mean the air bag was definitely switched off regardless of whether a passenger is present or not. Now the problem is back although the light does not turn off consistently. Sometimes the light is off and sometimes it is on. I wrote to Nissan about this. Unfortunately, my car just went off warranty and the diagnosis itself is $161.

4 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

So I have been having this problem ever since I purchased this vehicle. The passenger air bag off switch turns on while an adult is sitting in the seat and car is being driven. I have brought it in for repairs 4 seperate times. The first time they preformed a "zero point" reset. A few days went by and it did it again. I took it back 2 times after that and they kept saying they could not duplicate the problem even though I have video of it on my phone. So I took it to a different dealership to see what they would say about it and the many other problems I am experiencing. They had my car for 10 days. I personally spoke and test drove with the technician and he told me he preformed the zero point reset again. But when I picked it up the paperwork only states that they could not reproduce the problem and no work was preformed. But last night the same night I picked it up it did it again and again I have video evidence of it switching off while sitting in it and driving. This is a huge safety issue, and someone needs to makes Nissan fix it. Oh and the loaner car which was a 2013 Nissan rogue did the same exact thing and I have 2 viedos of it.

5 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

1) the low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient lighting intensity and distance. The lights barely illuminate about 2 car lengths ahead, which is too short a distance at speeds above 25-30mph, making highway travel at night very dangerous. Objects in the path of travel and on the side of the road are not visible in time to safely respond. Street signs and turns are nearly impossible to identify if they are not near street lights. This issue has been present since buying the car, which has been to the dealer multiple times for adjustment, but they insist that the lights are set within specs. The high beams provide excellent lighting, but when switched to low for an oncoming vehicle, I am suddenly driving without sufficient light. This is such a frightening problem that I prefer not to drive this car at night. I can't believe that these lights meet safety standards. 2) the passenger side air bag light often indicates that the bag is not activated even when there is an adult sitting in the seat. This was supposedly repaired in a recall 5/2014, but continues to happen. The dealer says "don't worry about it," that the bag will deploy if needed. I have no way of knowing if that is the case and I believe this is a safety concern.
