37 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2015

During our vacation while driving in illinois we noticed while on the highway going at a speed of 60 to 65 mph while an adult occupying the passenger seat the air bag light came on and said passenger air bag turned off. I pulled out the owners manual and read that it could be caused by an article perhaps touching the seat if reclined too far back. This was not the case. There was nothing touching the seat. I was sitting perfectly still so the sensor should have detected a passenger in the seat. I had been siting in the seat for hours with the normal movement. We pulled over and turned the car off then restarted and the light stayed off. This happened several more times while driving on our vacation and is a scary thought to have this occur. Once home, I called the dealership for an appointment and in the meantime the same thing occurred on a short in town trip twice. My appointment is this week so I am curious what they will find.

38 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

The vehicle has had recurring problems with the passenger air bag light coming on while the vehicle is in motion and with an occupant in the passenger seat. This has occurred on both city streets and interstate highways. The vehicle was brought in due to a recall on the restraint system on may 9, 2014. Previous to this there were no observable problems. On June 12, 2014 the vehicle was brought into the dealership because I began to have a problem with the air bag light coming on when a passenger was in the front seat while driving. Nissan detected a problem and replaced the airbag detection sensor. The problem soon became evident again (many times I drive the vehicle while alone, so problem isn't always evident. ) on Jan 30, 2015 I brought the vehicle into Nissan dealership with the same problem. Again, they detected codes regarding the passenger occupant sensors and they said they replaced the sensor. Five days later the problem showed up while we were on a lengthy trip. I brought the vehicle in again on April 9. They stated that no codes showed up and suggested it probably would be ok. However on several occasions the problem showed up again, I brought it back to the dealership, each time they stated that they did a computer scan and no codes showed up. I had taken videos on 3 occasions showing the vehicle in motion and showing a passenger in the front seat and showing the airbag light on indicating the airbag was not in operation. I offered , even asked if they would watch but they declined. They said that everything was functional. They further told me that the primary means of restraint was the seatbelt. I asked if they would check to see if the sensor was positioned properly, however they refused, saying that Nissan would not authorize any other work to be done unless the computer showed a problem. I am left not knowing of my vehicle is safe.

39 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2015

2014 Altima has been into dealer for passenger air bag issues and twice they have done things, but we still have the problem. A passenger over 125 pounds is sitting in the seat and the air bag light saying the air bag is turned off is on. Have to shut the car off and turn on again and it will then go out. Makes me wonder what it will really do if we are in an accident.

40 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that when the ignition was turned to the on position, the passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer system needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v681000 (air bags). The failure mileage was approximately 4,500.

41 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2015

I am writing regarding problems with the Nissan air bag safety system in my 2014 Altima. I purchased a 2014 Altima in August and have had a recurring intermittent problem of the passenger air bag light coming on and remaining on when I have an adult passenger in the vehicle. My wife weighs 120 pounds yet it is not infrequent for the light to go on when we start the car and then remain on for an extended period of time, usually between fifteen and thirty minutes. It may also come on and stay on if she gets in the car after I have started it. Since local trips are often less than thirty minutes, there are times we complete a short trip without the light going out. The light will also come on for no apparent reason while we are driving. During one of these episodes the light came on while we were driving on an interstate, remained on for just over an hour, and then went off. We have had the car evaluated by Nissan twice and are repeatedly told nothing is wrong. I also wrote and spoke with Nissan corporate and was told there is nothing they can do. There is nothing under the seat. There are no children in the car and my wife is not turning around in the seat. I have pictures (I can forward if desired) that show the problem while we are on the road.

47 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

The passenger air bag light came on with my wife sitting in the passenger seat. She has set there many times before with no problems. So when the light came on with here in the seat I called the service department. Now my wife weighs 130 lb. I was told she is at the border of what the sensors in the seat is supposed to activate. I'm not going to tell her to gain weight.

48 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

This issue is regarding the passenger air bag light that turns on even when there is an adult passenger occupying the seat. The weight of the adult passenger (150lbs - 180lbs) is much higher than the threshold for activating the air bags. Have taken to the Nissan dealership and complained about this issue during my 3 service visits, but every time I get a response that there are no issues with the sensors and there are no pending recalls. It took me a lot of effort to make them understand what I'm saying and the dealership was of no help. They made me believe that this is a non-issue and I should ignore the air bag light. This is a very serious issue and I've now a video/photo evidence with different adults in the passenger seats. Further, this is very erratic. At one instance, I've had my wife sit in the passenger seat while the air bag light was off and suddenly turned on when we were cruising at 65mph on the highway, the light suddenly turned on. It's caused a brief panic and we had to stop, re-start the engine and then it worked fine. We're very scared to ride a passenger and the dealership is of no help. I searched online and found many other users having similar concerns with no resolution. This is a very very serious safety issue and would request the erratic and faulty air bag problem be resolved before we wait to hear about some casualty because of faulty airbags from Nissan.

49 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2014

While driving my 2014 Nissan Altima, the passenger side airbag light stayed on although an adult passenger was sitting in the seat. I pulled over, turned the car off and re-started it, the light went off. This has happened twice within a month.

50 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

Takata recall whenever I turn on my car the yellow airbag light flashes for the passenger seat.

51 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

Recently after getting the s/w updated for the recall to fix the passenger air bag issue, I started noticing that the air bag indicator for both driver and passenger are red for longer time than other dash lights during the start of the engine. Usually, after starting the engine , all the dash light would come and within couple of seconds, lights/indicators in the dash would go from red to off indicating that everything is normal. But off late , I noticed that only the air bag indicator is going off by at least 3+ seconds, which in turn in sync with the passenger air bag. I'm kind of worried that the air bag safety system is not functioning properly. Please advise any further action to get proper attention from the dealer. Thanks.

52 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2014

This is an ongoing problem. The information provided above is approximate as I didn't know it was an issue until a recall from my Nissan dealer on April 22' 2014. Since then I have had it back to the dealer two more times for the same incident only to be told it could not be fixed, but they gave me a procedure to get around the issue. The issue involves the air bag light on the passengers side staying lit even when there is an adult in the seat. The light on means the passengers air bag is disabled. I am told to check light while the car in on and in park and if on, have the passenger stay perfectly still for about eight seconds, until the light goes out. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. Occasionally I have to shut off the engine and restart in order for this to work. Most times, I forget to check the light only to notice it on while driving. This is not acceptable. I worry about not noticing and having a front end accident. Surely in this day and age Nissan engineers can find a fix.

53 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

2014 Nissan Altima. Consumer writes in regards to passenger airbag indicator light issues. The consumer stated the air bag light illuminated indicating the passenger air bag was deactivated, despite his 100 pound wife was seated in the front passenger seat. The dealer reprogrammed the occupant classification system. However, four months later, the light illuminated again. The dealer reprogrammed the OCS again. The consumer returned to the dealer for a third time, in December 2014. The dealer claimed they test drove the vehicle with a passenger and they could not duplicate the problem.

54 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

Problem is, my girlfriend weight 110lb. Lot of time when she sits on the passenger side, the airbag indicator tells us the airbag is off. This problems only happened when I picked up my car on the street next to curbs. Design of roads is, the center is higher than the sides. Because of that, when I park on the right of the streets next to the curbs, the left side of the car is higher than the right side. So when my girlfriend sits on the passenger side, her weight does't goes to the center of the seat. But if the car is on surface level such as in a garage, and she get in the car, we have no airbag issue.

55 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

Airbag light showing that the passenger side airbags are off intermittently comes on while an adult passenger is seated in the car and vehicle is moving.

56 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2013

Had random passenger airbag remain on when passenger was sitting in seat - met all weight requirements. This never happened continually but was problematic enough to bring in to dealer. They could not find anything wrong. Brought in several times, still no fix. Nissan recalled this problem in April 2015, had fix done to vehicle. Within a week airbag light stayed on with passenger in seat. This issue continues yet talking with Nissan they believe that since the dealer can't find any error codes showing what the problem is they will not fix it. Nissan will not put this under NHTSA campaign number: 15v681000 as it does not fit their criteria. I believe any passenger sitting in that seat is not safe. Vehicle is running passenger comes in and sits in seat, passenger airbag light stays on. Passenger is 160#. If I turn vehicle off and restart the airbag light usually does stay off. But not sure of the safety at that point - is airbag really on? this is continual since buying the vehicle in 2013, fix in spring of 2015 did not fix OCS for my vehicle.

57 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2013

Hello, I have taken my brand new Nissan Altima 2014 4 times to the dealership for the problem Nissan has been having. When there is someone over the weight limit sitting in the passenger side the air bag light that indicates if its on or off does not come off. Stating that the airbag is off even though someone is sitting in he passenger side with the weight requirement. It all started on 11/10/14 and was told nothing was wrong, took it again on 1/14/15 and they said they found a code ( b00a0-00) indicating the airbag would turn off. They told me they fixed the problem by replacing the sensor and control unit and performed zero point reset. The problem came back again on 2/3/15 and was told that there is nothing wrong and that if it happens just pull over and turn off the car until the lights turn off and does not come back on. Took it again for the same problem in March and was told that they could not do nothing even though they knew it was not working as intended.
