Nissan Altima owners have reported 82 problems related to carrier/rack (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Altima based on all problems reported for the Altima.
The dashboard is melting, cracking and crumbling. The melting has created a sheen that reflects on the windshield causing visibility to be severely impaired. The dash is very sticky to the touch. Further, the melting is causing a toxic chemical odor and what appears to be possible fume deposits on the inside of the front windshield. These are both clearly safety hazards that need to be immediately addressed by Nissan. The exterior paint is failing as well. It is fading, peeling and the clear coat has degraded on much of the vehicle resulting in continued degradation.

08 Nissan Altima coupe that I purchased new in south florida February 08 that I've owned since has a melted, sticky, and cracked dashboard. Also, the dash is changing colors. The defective and melted dashboard makes it dangerous to drive because the sun reflects on the dashboard making it very hard to see out of the windshield. As referenced in the class action lawsuit tracy sanborn v. Nissan north America, inc. My car should be covered. I spoke with a rep at 1-800-Nissan-1 and they claimed to have no idea this existing. I have opened my case and will hopefully get it fixed soon.
This is the third time that the motor mount has cracked. Nissan replaced it the 1st time, I paid to replace the other side the 2nd time and Nissan refuses to replace it again due to mileage on the car. This could result in the motor falling out. Part seems to be defective. Don't know if it happens when the car is moving or not. I want Nissan to replace it free of charge. #.

I notice my dashboard is cracking and soft and sticky. I see a lot of complaints about the same issue from other owners and feel this may be unsafe especially when if the airbags deploy. I am sure tests were done when the dashboard is fine but was airbags testing done with sticky, soft, cracking dashboards, probably not.
The dashboard is melting and cracking, creating a glare on the inside of the windshield that is danger to all.
My dashboard is cracked by many parts. My car is always in a garage, because I don't work. Sole owner since 2007, no kids.
While walking to the vehicle an object was seen hanging down from behind the left drivers side rear wheel area. After crawling under the vehicle to investigate I positively confirmed the rear sway bar was broken off right at the bushing. The driver side end of this bar is still attached at the linkage rods, but is completely broken off from the rest of the sway bar at the left side bushing and bracket. Please force Nissan to step up to the plate and at least issue a service bulletin if they are too stubborn to issue a recall. Make them agree in writing to dump the manufacturer of this inferior hollow part. Judging by the numerous broken 2007 Altima sway bar complaints, there is an apparent quality problem here.
Dash melting and cracking.
On a recent trip for oil change I asked the dealership about a spot of rust on the rear quarter panel. They said a bracket was rusting that holds the rear quarter panel on. The real problem, they pointed out was the severe rust under the front floorboards, both passenger's and driver's side. I was hoping to get about 6,000 for the car toward the purchase of a new one. I have always had my car serviced at the dealership. The engine runs great it is very upsetting to know that it is dangerous to drive. The Nissan dealership told me there is nothing they can do. They said there is no warranty on the rust.

The vehicle starting losing the paint for no reason ive always taken care of my cars theres no valid reason that this paint should have started to crack like this.
My check engine light came on and I made an appointment for Monday at planet Nissan. On Saturday 1/24/15 the light went off, but I've heard some knocking and the steering makes a rubbing sound. So far the master cylinder had to be replaced, which I filed a complaint here, and was reimbursed, but before reimbursement they told me my VIN did not match. So I find that questionable. I've put on new struts on the front and rear. Nissan said the check engine light had to do with the transmission and it was under warranty and has been repaired. Now they are telling me that the front strut mounts are cracked which is not covered. I've been on line and see that 2010 models have had this problem. They have not located the rubbing sound in the steering wheel. I've called Nissan consumer department and am awaiting a reply. So far the master cylinder, struts front and back, the transmission, and now the front strut mounts. On a car with this little mileage, I don't feel secure in this car and will never own another Nissan. I think they should repair the strut mounts. I've never had so many problems with a car before. I would say very poor workmanship. I was looking forward to paying the car off as I owe very little at this time and I keep my cars a long time, but feel I have a lemon and am very disappointed. As much as we pay for cars today there shouldn't be so many problems.

Dashboard is melting and cracking. This car has been garage kept since bought brand new in 08, it only has 6055 miles on it, & when ever it was out, it always had a sunshield. Been reading thousands of complaints, & a lawsuit should be filed as was done for Toyota. It does create a vision hazard and it cant be cleaned.

The dashboard on my 2008 Nissan Altima coupe is melting. It has turned into a sticky and gooey substance. When I touch the dashboard my fingers stick and turn black. Every time I get into my car I worry the melting dashboard will be a safety issue. The dashboard reflects the sun from the windshield and it causes a reflection, so it sometimes becomes hard to see while driving. In addition to the dashboard melting, it is also beginning to crack. The issue was filed with Nissan but they refused to fix or replace the dashboard.
My dashboard is peeling and cracking which is causing vision problems while I am driving due to the glaring sun. I live in florida and my job includes lots of travel during the hottest part of the day. The peeling dashboard and the sun causes a glare on my windshield which hampers my visibility. This is a major problem that may eventually cause me to have a accident if it is not recalled.
Help please! my 07 Altima dashboard is cracking on its own. It is also melting and Nissan will not do anything about it. The glare from the shiny dash is hard to see when driving in direct sunlight.
My 2008 Nissan Altima dashboard is cracking and soft to the touch and sticky. I'm aware that there are others with the same problem and it is getting worst! I'm aware that it is a matter of time when it will be a safety hazard for me and wife that drive this vehicle. Can you please let me know what to do and who to speak to; I'm looking to see if Nissan will be taking responsibility and paying for replacing my dashboard. I thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.
There are long lines of cracks all over my dashboard. It appears the material from which it is made, is extremely inferior. Both the dealer from which is was bought (coral springs Nissan) and the consumer affairs section of Nissan na tell me there is nothing they can do as the warranty is up. What will happen to me if the dashboard falls apart while I am driving? I am also experiencing, to a lesser extent, the shiny spots which I have also read about from comments online, on the dashboard. I previously owned a 1999 Nissan Altima and never had this problem and fail to see how a car which I purchased December 2009 - note even 5 years old - should be having this problem. I'm extremely dissatisfied that the company is unwilling to assist in rectifying this defect.
Windshield cracked and continued to propagate.

Tl-the contact owns 2007 Nissan Altima. The contact stated the instrument panel cracking and melting. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000. Aw.
Car was parked in driveway and next day noticed an exterior crack on my windshield from middle of the driver's side to the center without any evidence of impact from a foreign object. Size of crack is about 12"-17".
I noticed that my 2008 Nissan Altima coupe randomly developed huge, long cracks on the dashboard. It is also sticky and soft (flexible). It appears to be melting and it is creating a significant glare across my windshield that makes it extremely hard to see when driving.
Dashboard appears to be melting. It is sticky and shiny and pieces lift off with anything that is placed on the dash. The effect causes a a significant glare in the sunlight that affects driver line of sight. Deterioration has also caused multiple cracks in dash surface that may potentially affect air bag deployment.
Nissan Altima 2007 4 cyl. The entire dashboard is cracking in various areas. Many lengthy cracks which are beginning to open wider and becoming larger. Also the dashboard is very sticky. This vehicle has been garaged for 4 years. Would be nice if Nissan would look into this defect. I have seen many other owners complaining of the same problems with the dashboard.
I have a 2008 Nissan alitma se sedan. Most of the time the car was parked in the garage. Car was parked outside several times a week. I noticed my dashboard started to melt and its getting worse. Its a safety hazard causing a glare in the day time and could be bad for visibility on the road and I could be breathing in the toxic chemicals from the dashboard. I had a dashboard cover to protect my dash and it still melts and cracking in different places in the dash. My dealer is new city Nissan in honolulu, hi I have called them and also called Nissan consumer affairs and none of them helped me. My local dealer ignored me for the longest time until they finally said sorry we cant help you, you are out of warranty and for a replacement dash it will cost $2,304. 00. I feel like this isn't right and its a safety issue. I have 2 other Nissans that are older cars parked outside and there dashboards are not melted. Nissan does not want to help or admit this is a defective product.
I purchased my car from davis-moore in wichita, kansas on June 27, 2014. I then had to have the windshield replaced in January because of a "stress fracture crack. " that windshield cracked in early April (at least eighteen inches) but dealer says it is from a rock chip, so they won't replace. The rock chip they claim caused the crack is barely detectable. I parked my vehicle in the garage in the evening, it turned cold overnight, and the next morning the crack was there.
The dashboard on my car is sticky and gooey and reflects sunlight glare that makes it almost impossible to see through when sunny. I am short and have to sit and stop between the glare where there is a small area that doesnt obstruct my vision. I also have cracks around steering wheel and stereo areas and have chunk of the dashboard now revealing the foam underneath. The rest of the car is in mint condition other than the dash. I reported to Nissan and they told me to get estimate to get fixed. I still have received no response on what they are doing but the estimate came in at over 2500 and I cant afford to shell out that kind of money. The problem is getting worse and spreading quickly. I just paid off the car in February this year and it began to show signs of glare at that time. The sticky started around November or and I thought it was our fault until I saw a story about the melting dashboards on our local news and the pictures were exactly as my car showed. I am most concerned with the glare as I feel it is a definite safety hazard and it is getting worse. I have tinted windows and have always kept my car in the garage but it hasnt eliminated or slowed the issue.
Nissan seriously needs to issue a recall! I have a brand new 2013 Nissan Altima (less than 2 months old) and I was at a drive thru waiting for my food when all the sudden my windshield cracked. The crack is very large and it's on the bottom right hand side of the windshield by the passenger seat. Nothing even hit the windshield to cause it to crack and I had a passenger in the car at the time this occurred to confirm that. I cannot believe I have to replace a windshield of a car I just bought less than 2 months ago. I'm actually scared to replace it because I don't want the same thing to happen again. If you google "altima windshield cracked for no reason" you will see that there has been numerous complaints from Altima owners about this issue for the last couple of year. However, nothing has been done to resolve it. Please investigate to see if there is a design flaw that is causing extra stress on the window. I've never had to replace a windshield or have seen one crack right in front of me without anything stricking it.
The front floor on the driver's side is cracked and rusted through which is unsafe.

The dashboard of our 2008 Nissan Altima has started melting and cracking. The dash is now so shiny from the melting substance, that there is a severe glare issue when driving on sunny days. It is almost impossible to read road signs because of this glare. This makes for very hazardous driving. There needs to be a recall issued before an accident or death occurs because of the severe glare.
After about 5 years of owning my car (Nissan Altima coupe 08), I began to notice a sticky substance on my dashboard. After a little while I realized that it was actually melting. The melting spread to cover about 80% of the dashboard. As time passed, the stickiness has caused me to not be able to drive during mid-day hours because of the glare coming off the dashboard and hitting the windshield. Even with high end polarized sunglasses, I am scared of driving because there's too many things I can't really see on the road. Recently, in addition to the sticky melting dash it has began to crack along the edges. The side and back windows have been tinted since the day I bought the car in 07 and I used to use a sunshield for the front until the melting began becoming too messy to keep using.
The dashboard of my 2008 Nissan Altima coupe began melting and cracking about 1 year ago. Now the areas that are continuing to melt have become shiny and when the sun hits it at the right angle (early morning, and sunset) it causes a distracting glare to be cast on the windshield. At certain times it is extremely difficult to see vehicles in front of me without looking off to the side or wearing sunglasses to avoid the glare. Safety concerns notwithstanding, I am not enjoying the constant headaches caused by the glare I am subjected to during my daily commute. Please repair or replace this issue before someone gets hurt!.
After returning home from the store, I noticed that there was an object done by my gas pedal. I went to pick it up and it looks like its suppsed to be holding something up there. I looked up and could not find where it went, but then noticed a bolt that holds the bracket for the hood, and gas door cables was loose. I mean it was half way out and the other was tight. I do not feel safe in this car finding all of these diferent problems. Almost like they did not quality check it!.
This part is cracked/broken just like all the other Nissan Altima exhaust manifolds. Had it happened six months earlier it would be covered under warranty. Six months, 9000 miles??? its a $18000 car. A vital emissions part made of steel cracked and they wont fix it? there is a recall,ntb12-092 in effect for this car but according to Nissan my car dosnt fit the parameters because of the VIN#. It clearly has the exact same problem as the other cars,a defective emissions part and should be included in this safety recall.
