Car was purchased new in late April 2015. When I opened the trunk of the vehicle for the first time, I noticed there was rust in the spot welds on the left side of the trunk. Front bumper also started to pop out on both sides after driving it the first day and is rubbing and peeling paint from frame of vehicle. Rear windshield was pushed all the way to the left with a large gap to the right. This is a big safety issue. Front fascia misaligned from factory and rust eating away at main frame of vehicle despite there being no scratches or damage to vehicle. Both side skirts misaligned. All doors significantly misaligned from factory. Power steering whines and transmission groans and shifts erratically. Car does not drive straight at speeds 55+ and wanders between lanes. It takes much effort to keep it straight. Trunk lid not aligned properly. Bbb mandated Nissan to repurchase vehicle and brand it as a lemon due to serious safety defects & non-conformities. Nissan failed to fix rear windshield after one attempt and failed to fix other issues after 3 repair attempts. Car has been at dealership for 28+ days. Nissan failed to calculate correct repurchase numbers and Nissan still refuses to fix vehicle. After my protesting, Nissan repaired rear windshield but structurally, the rest of the car remains a safety issue. An investigation should be launched. I request nhsta to inspect the quality and build of this vehicle as it endangers my safety and those of other drivers around me. I am still in possession of this vehicle.

I have a 2009 Nissan Altima with just over 13000 miles on it. Last week as I was driving to work at about 65 mph I heard what sounded like a shotgun blast over my head. The sunroof glass had shattered (more like exploded) leaving about a 2 foot circular hole in the glass. At first I thought something must have hit me but when I pulled over I could obviously see that the glass was mushroomed out as if it had exploded from the inside out, not pushed in. I took the car to my Nissan dealer and they agreed that that there was no evidence that anything had hit the glass and that it had simply spontaneously shattered. They also pointed out chips in the paint on the roof and trunk lid caused by the pieces of broken glass. After first denying any coverage, Nissan now has agreed to pay for the new glass as a "goodwill repair" but they still refuse to pay for installation or the paint damage. The dealership picked up the installation and my insurance company is covering the $2500 of paint damage. I did contact Nissan consumer affairs to appeal their decision but was very curtly denied again.

- the contact stated that while driving the 2003 Nissan altma the trunk lid randomly popped open. There was no particular vehicle speed that caused this to happen. The contact was unable to close the trunk lid once it popped open unless she used the trunk release switch on the inside of the vehicle. The contact spoke with Nissan ,and they advised her to speak with the dealership. The dealership informed contact that the problem was the lock. The lock was replaced by the dealership, and since the lock was replaced the problem only occurred when the vehicle hits a bump in the road. The vehicle's current mileage was 54,700 miles. Updated 09/12/07.

Purchased our 2006 Nissan Altima in Jan of 2006. After a few months of using this car we noticed the trunk did not operate properly. When the car is on a flat surface as it was when we purchased it the trunk lid will stay open, if the car is situated on any kind of incline the trunk will slam shut. My children were injured several times as was I when the trunk slammed down on our heads. The reason is visual, the trunk was poorly designed, there is no tension at all. The trunk actually swings like a pendulum . I took it into the shop four times over this past year. Today, 3/22/2007 the Nissan dealership finally did the needed repairs. They agree the design is poor. Everyone who has a 2006 Nissan Altima without the back spoiler should be notified of this defect.
(1)heavy rains during the last week in oct0ber 2204. (2)structural failure of trunk lid causing water to leak into truck during heavy rain. (3)second occurrence. Repair service schedule for November 1, 2004. Original failure and leak repair occurred February. 2003 (replaced weather stripping).

I just purchased a 2005 Nissan Altima from cooper Nissan in easton, PA. Problem: the trunk lid is poorly designed and it will not stay up on a sloping driveway. When I purchased the car and opened the trunk on my driveway. The trunk lid would not stay up, when parked on my driveway. About a 15 degree incline. The trunk lid has fallen on me several times but I was not cut. I contacted the cooper service dept and they ordered new torsion bars. After they were installed it appeared to work. On 8/14/04 I washing vacuuming out my trunk. The trunk lid fell down on my and caused a puncture wound to the back of my head and the blood started flowing&. Eventually with a compress the blood flow stopped after about an hour but the headache lasted for hours!
I called the cooper service dept and they essentially said" they couldn't do anything, thats the way its designed- sorry"
I then called the national Nissan consumer affairs dept and they reviewed my complaint and suggested a course of action of checked my car against others on the lot and to replace the torsion bars as needed. But I had already done that. And their final postion was " thats the way its designed and thats all they could do, sorry it doesn't work on your driveway - you'll just have to hold up the lid when you use the trunk" and what happens when you need two hands to put something in your trunk???
I have repeatly asked for a cheap , easy fix to add additional strength to the trunk lid but I been stalled by the Nissan personnel. They don''t even want to try to solve the problem. I don't care if it was an offical Nissan fix, I just wanted a fix. So that I can safely use my trunk without being injured.
