I was taking the car to get an oil change and the mechanic noticed that the sway bar had rusted through and broke. He said it was a defective part and rusted through due to the fact that it was hollow - he explained it is dangerous to drive over 30 mph with a defective sway bar. It is my opinion there should be a recall due to the safety concerns.

The contact stated that after having the vehicle inspected by the state, they advised him that the front driver and passenger side floorboards were completely rusted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they advised him that the floorboards needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired for the driver and passenger side floor boards. The safety and durability of liquid filled engine mounts needs to be examined. They are a total and utter failure. The manufacturers know this, but are making the consumer pay for replacement for premature failures and related damages. This is why you have engine run aways. The electronics arent meant for this much vibrations. With a solid, or even semi-solid mount, the frame absorbs some of this energy. Best replacement mounts should be a semi-solid, honey comb neoprene core, with cable reinforcement.

My wife's 2005 Nissan Altima was in for a routine oil change when we discovered the passenger side floor pan is rusted through to the interior carpeting. There's not a mark on the car otherwise and my wife loves her car. She purchased it new from the dealership. I called the original dealer . He has never heard of it and wants to see it for himself. 2002 Nissan Altima has rotted out floor boards on both sides! I can see the underside of the carpeting! I have seen this in 2 of 2 cars that I have checked yet the dealers service department said they never heard of it! then I went into the parts department and they said its very common! I think sevice department is coached to say that they never heard of the problem! this is dangerous for many reasons! first of all something that was run over could come into the passenger compartment! the car is not as strong when the chassis of the car is compromised! I believe this problem is affecting over 50% of these vehicles! the dealer is acting like they have never heard of the problem and has no help available! I have also had to put an engine in this car because of a fatory defect! they did a recall to put a shield in between the engine and catalytic convertor but the engine has a hole in the side right where they all have a problem! these cars are junk and Nissan should be ashamed! instead they act like they don't know what your talking about!.

I purchased a new 2006 Nissan Altima on 12-22-05. On 1- 8-11 I noticed a 6 to 8 inch rust hole completly through the floorboard of the driver's side floor just forward of the driver's seat. The dealership and Nissan America has refused to fix the problem stateing that the warranty had run out on the vehicle by 2 weeks. My contention is that problem is material or workmanship defect and that the problem has been ongoing and only discovered at this time. I am certain that this damage will compromise this vehicles performance in a crash, potentialy allow exhaust fumes to enter the occupant cabin and be generally a safety hazard for the driver who rests his or her feet directly on this area. I have read internet report that describe females high heels getting caught in the rusted floor while driving.

Passenger side floorboard on my 2002 Nissan Altima is rusted through. Vehicle was getting inspected last week and I was informed of the issue. Have done some research and appears I'm not the only Altima owner with this issue. The rust is a safety issue due to the rust hole I have in the floorboard. In researching this problem, it looks like there was a defect in the design of 2001-2005 Nissan Altima floor boards due to a drainage plug that was not properly sealed. Contacted Nissan north America and have not heard anything back after they said I would get a call back. The rusted out floor pans can become a hazard if not taken care of, but if you don't happen to see them then you will not no they are there. Most of the complaints that I have found; it seems that the floor boards have rusted all they way through to the main cabin. I am afraid that if people never check for this problem, it will progressively rust through and affect your seats and everything that is there. Looks like Nissan north America will not take care of this problem! they don't care!.

I have mailed an official letter since the space provided is not sufficient for my complaint. The consumer stated during a recent oil change, the technician noticed an enormous rusted hole on the driver's side of the floor panel underneath the vehicle. The passenger side also had a big rusted spot where another hole was developing. The consumer was advised by a repair shop to replace the entire floor panel since it was so badly rusted. The consumer believed the defect was due to the absence of drain holes in the floor pan underneath the vehicle. The drain holes were visible to have been outlined, but they were never drilled through. The water from the air conditioner would get trapped on top of the floor panel and collect there, eventually causing rust. Updated ivoq.

We purchased a 2006 Nissan Altima brand new in 2005. The car has been great but I sold the car at an auction and received a call the next day that the car was in arbitration because the floor boards were rusted. I asked them to verify the problem and get back to me. They called me back and indeed, they said that you could push your finger right through the floor boards on the passenger and drivers side floor boards.

The contact stated that if you lift the floor mats up from the front driver and passenger sides he could see all the way through the vehicle because the frame was completely covered with rust. The failure mileage was 88,000 and the current mileage was 95,000.

Upon further investigation, the rust had created a hole right through the floor panel - lifting the carpet, I could see the road below. Nissan dealers said that it was out of warranty so they could do nothing.

2002 Nissan Altima. There is severe rust and corrosion in specific locations directly under both the driver and front passengers seats and floors. The corrosion appears to be related to two factory holes in the floor, one on each side of the vehicle. The corrosion on the passenger side of our car is less severe: a large area of rust but a relatively small hole (tennis ball size) through the sheet metal. The drivers side of the car has a large hole (soccer ball size) in the floor. This is the only major corrosion on the car (the "rear subframe" assembly was replaced in 2006 due to corrosion under a Nissan warranty program). The fuel filler neck is also rusty and does not seal properly, which can cause an engine alert when the fuel vapor seal leak reaches the point where the alert is triggered. There is little or no corrosion in the wheel wells or fenders. Based on two bids from auto body shops in this area, the cost to repair the rust damage will be between $2500 and $3200. I have taken photographs of approximately forty Altimas in this area. All but five have corrosion in this specific area to varying degrees. It is clearly not limited to only the car we own. Nissan has a warranty program which covers rust perforation for a period of five years from the date of manufacture. I have spoken to a number of people at a dealer in this area regarding this problem. They claim that Nissan is aware of this problem on 2001 through 2005 Altimas, but has chosen not to warrant it due to the expense, preferring instead to refuse to be responsible. Nissan will apparently take the cars in trade and sell them to wholesale auto operations where they are sold to customers who may or may not be aware of the problem. The back seat floor board (right side) fills up with water every time it rains. I asked the Nissan dealer where I bought it from about it and they told me it would cost me $80 for them to look at it and $200-$400 to fix it if they could even find out where the water was coming from. The problem is mold is building up under the mats and my 1yr old son and myself are breathing in this mold on a daily basis. It seems as though once a dealer gets your money they dont care about the car once you drive it off the lot. I do have an extended warrenty which when I bought the car they assurred me it was bumper to bumper with the exception of lights wipers & tires. Now they do not want to honor that good ole "bumper to bumper" extended warrenty that I just had to buy to protect myself against any problems (so they promised me).

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Altima. While driving approximately 5 mph the check engine light came on and there was rust on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The dealer stated that the under carriage was damaged and that if the under carriage was removed the bolts may fall off. The dealer also stated that the fuel cap and the rear sub frame were corroded. All of the rotors on the vehicle needed to be replaced. The dealer stated that the state and ocean location may be a factor. The failure mileage was 42,000. The current mileage was 43,000.

The floor pan is rusted out. 03 Nissan Altima I am not alone with this problem and I feel some one is going to get hurt. I called Nissan north America they confirmed the problem. They had a body ship give them an estimate of $2800 and they refuse to help. I know the car is out of warranty but it is there defect in design. I would love to talk to some one about this. I own a 2003 Nissan Altima that was purchased brand new. The car has never been in an accident and has always been well maintained. . . Washed and waxed regularly. I was changing the oil on 7/28/09 and noticed something hanging from the passenger side floor which turned out to be the remains of said floor. There is a rust hole approximately 2 foot long and 6 inches wide in the passenger side of this 6 year old car. After doing some research online I see this is a fairly common failure for this generation Altima and Nissan will do absolutely nothing to help with the repair since the perforation warranty is over as of 10/08. I have had the car into the dealership for recall work and nobody from the dealership ever mentioned the hole in this vehicle which at that time would have been covered by warranty. Nissan flat out denies to do anything to help with the repair regardless of the fact that this shouldn't be happening to a 6 year old car in the first place. It's an obvious safety issue with a giant hole in the floor that exhaust fumes can enter but Nissan refuses to acknowledge the design flaw in this vehicle. Please help me to force Nissan to admit the problem exists and get it fixed at their cost.

Defective sheet metal design in floor pan of Nissan Altimas, body style beginning with model year 2002. Design flaw caused large rust holes in front of driver and passenger seat, seemingly by trapping moisture. My holes approx 12" each. I am hearing similar complaints from other Altima owners. Perforation warranty was 5 years, and due to my dealership not noticing the problem within that period, Nissan claims no responsibility. These holes may alter the structural integrity of the body frame in case of side impact. Additionally, water enters the cabin and remains in the carpet and pad. My floor pan will need to be replaced, and am preparing to schedule the work. Nissans recommended local body shop has estimated repairs approx. $2300 us.

Floor rusted through on a 2003 Nissan Altima 3. 5 se with only 55000 miles on it. In service date of the vehicle was April 30, 2003. The hole in the floor of the vehicle was noticed in may of 2009. Rust perforation warranty from Nissan is for 5 years only. Nissan unwilling to help. Exhaust and other fumes can enter the car. This is unacceptable for a car with this low mileage.

Extensive rust through of lower radiator support bracket caused the radiator to drop down, damaging coolant and a/c lines. Required replacement of support, related support brackets, and repair to a/c system.

During a routine brake job at the Nissan dealership it was noticed that I had a rear cracked cross member (frame). The frame of the body was cracked. Nissan would not take responsibility for the problem. I took it to a body shop they had recommended since they would not quote me a price. I had it fixed for $888. 71. They replaced the rear crossmember. I do have the old cross member in my garage.

Frame on vehicle was damaged upon delivery at dealer . After contacting dealer, stated that vehicle was damaged in factory before it was shipped out.
