1 Body problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/09/2026

Subject safety defect complaint recall repair refusal and manufacturer delay Nissan Altima 2016 my 2016 Nissan Altima is subject to a safety recall related to the hood latch cover the hood latch cover on my vehicle is defective and stuck which caused the hood to become completely locked shut this defect creates a serious safety hazard because the hood could unexpectedly open while driving putting me my family and other road users at risk I contacted and visited two authorized Nissan dealers multiple times to have the recall repair performed both dealers refused to repair the vehicle unless I personally opened the hood first I explained that the hood cannot be opened due to the recall related defect and that attempting to force it open is unsafe the dealers still refused to perform the recall repair I then contacted a third party service aaa but they refused to work on the vehicle stating that opening or driving the vehicle with a compromised hood is extremely dangerous and that this issue must be handled by the manufacturer and its authorized dealers I contacted Nissan north America directly to seek assistance instead of resolving the issue Nissan has repeatedly delayed action stating that my case is still pending dealer approval I have been told many times that there would be updates but no solution has been provided I was informed multiple times that the case is delayed and that there is currently no resolution available as of today my vehicle has been undrivable for more than one and a half months due to this unresolved safety defect I am afraid to drive the vehicle because it poses a real danger to my safety and the safety of my family this situation has caused significant stress and hardship I am filing this complaint with NHTSA because an authorized dealer is refusing to perform a required safety recall repair.

2 Body problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/03/2026

My 2013 Nissan Altima sv is subject to NHTSA safety recall 16v-244 for a defective hood latch that can corrode, bind, or fail. I brought my vehicle to a Nissan dealership to have the recall performed. The dealership refused to complete the recall repair and attempted to charge me, stating they could not access the hood because the hood release cable is broken. The hood release cable failed as a result of the defective hood latch binding, which is the subject of the recall. Because the recall defect prevents normal hood operation, the dealer claims the recall cannot be performed unless I pay for repairs. Nissan consumer affairs and a regional specialist are relying solely on the dealership’s statement and have declined to authorize recall-related repair, effectively leaving the safety recall unremedied. This is a safety recall, and I believe Nissan is failing to provide the required no-cost remedy and is refusing to perform the recall due to a condition caused by the recalled part.

3 Body problem of the 2022 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/16/2025

I am submitting this complaint to report a dangerous and repeatable safety defect involving my Nissan Altima that caused me injury and resulted in vehicle damage. On December 16, 2025, I parked my vehicle on an incline and shifted it into park. The gear selector and dashboard indicator both confirmed that the vehicle was in park. I exited the vehicle and was not applying the brake. While the engine was running, the vehicle remained stationary. However, immediately after I turned the engine off, the vehicle began to roll backward downhill at approximately 5–7 mph without any throttle input or action on my part. As the vehicle rolled, the passenger door struck me and pulled me down the hill, causing injury. My vehicle was also damaged and is currently at a repair facility. Later that same day, when a tow truck driver arrived to recover the vehicle, the exact same failure occurred again. The vehicle was placed in park, and once the engine was turned off, it again rolled downhill unexpectedly. This occurred in front of the tow truck driver and confirms that this issue is repeatable and not an isolated incident. At no point did the vehicle roll while the engine was running, even though I was out of the vehicle and not applying the brake. The vehicle only moved after the engine was turned off, which indicates that it was not being held by a fully engaged park mechanism. A vehicle placed in park should remain stationary once turned off, regardless of incline. The failure of my vehicle to do so created an unattended roll-away hazard that directly caused my injury and posed a serious risk of severe injury or death to me and others.

4 Body problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/19/2025

I am unable to see at night because my headlights are dim but keep passing inspection, and I am afraid I am going to crash. . . I have complained to my Nissan dealership since the recall was in effect but it has expired and I continuously pass inspection but when I drive at night I have to use high beams and can not see a thing. This is my 4th attempt for help. I almost hit a deer the other night. The lights are so dim that it seems that they are not even on. . I have to turn my high beams on just to see and I was warned that I can recieve a ticket for driving with high beams on. . I went to the Nissan company and they said there was nothing they could because they didn't honor the recall on the headlight assemblies anymore and I would have to pay $1500 to replace them. I'm disabled and can not afford to do that. . What else can Nissan do I am getting ready to get rid of this and advise everyone of Nissan practices.

7 Body problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/10/2025

The hood flew open upon entering the freeway. Could not see anymore going 60 mph. Had to pull over and bend the fenders back to close the hood. Afraid this will happen again. The latch was recalled before this happened and the dealer sprayed it and said it was safe to drive which it was not. They said Nissan would not cover any repairs that are now needed to the hood and fenders.

A tractor trailer hit my vehicle from behind/driver side rear in snowy road conditions and then jackknifed causing my vehicle to spin out of control across the interstate. My 2 children were in the backseat, my [xxx] son driver side rear & [xxx] daughter passenger rear. My husband was in front passenger seat. No air bags deployed, the vehicle was a total loss, we almost got killed. The impact was mainly on the driver side rear where the initial impact happened & my son’s seat was pushed up & completely detached from the rest of the vehicle and yet his srs side airbag never deployed. Please see images below of the air bags not deploying . If that tractor trailer hit us 2 inches different, my son would be dead right now. There were injuries and we were seen by ems on scene & then the hospital later. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Driver side front and passenger rear doors locks stopped working when trying to lock doors. Stopped working a few months ago. Door doesn't lock when put into gear to drive.

10 Body problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/27/2024

While driving on a highway at 65 mph, the hood of the car completely opened. When attempting to close it, the latch that holds the hood wouldn't hold it at all. There were no warning lights, when I called the dealership they said that because there were no recalls on it currently, they couldn't do anything. The hood completely blinded us and dented the roof and sides of our car.

13 Body problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/25/2024

I have contacted 2 dealerships about fixing the recall and nobody will call me back to schedule to fix. All they say is they will talk to the shop manager, and I never hear back. Now the hood is constantly stuck or not opening.

14 Body problem of the 2020 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

Unable to open driver’s door from the inside of the vehicle. To exit the car I have to climb over and exit through passenger door or roll down the window and open the door from the outside handle. This is a potential safety concern of not be able to get out of the car in an emergency or injuring myself when I have to climb over the console to exit through passenger door. This issue has bot been resolved and is still a concern.

15 Body problem of the 2008 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/08/2024

My 2008 Nissan Altima's dash is degrading and has caused a sticky residue to form on it. This stickiness is very shiny and causes a glare to occur on the windshield. I live in kentucky and when the sun is shining, and actually basically anytime driving, the glare makes it nearly impossible to see. I almost hit another vehicle because I could not see but instead went off the road to avoid a collision. This is very unsafe.

17 Body problem of the 2024 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

On [xxx] I purchased a brand-new 2024 Nissan Altima sr from vaden Nissan located at 10421 abercorn street, savannah, GA 31419, phone 912-920-5600; with approximately 25 miles on the odometer. On the day of purchase, the vehicle emitted a noticeable mold odor inside the cabin. The vehicle was returned to the dealership on March 11, 2024, due to the mold odor. It was again returned on March 13, 2024, after water was discovered inside the trunk area of the vehicle. At the time of sale and shortly thereafter, water was present inside the trunk area, and the vehicle continued to exhibit water intrusion. The water intrusion appears to be associated with defective weatherstripping or sealing, which allowed moisture to enter the vehicle. On March 19, 2024, the dealership returned the vehicle to me with visible mold present inside the vehicle. The mold condition was observable at the time it was returned to consumer use. The vehicle was not professionally remediated for mold contaminated before being released back to consumer possession. A professional mold inspection later identified over 100,000 mold spores and at least ten (10) different types of mold inside the vehicle. Although the source of water intrusion was reportedly repaired on October 25, 2024, the vehicle remains inoperative and unsafe due to mold contamination. The mold condition persists despite repair attempts. I remain in possession of the vehicle, which cannot be safely driven or occupied. The manufacturer was notified of the water intrusion and mold contamination; however, the safety issue remains unresolved. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this matter to determine whether the water intrusion and resulting mold contamination present a broader safety concern and whether the handling and return of the vehicle to consumer use was appropriate given the visible mold condition. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

18 Body problem of the 2024 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/12/2024

There is an obvious gap in the lining of the rear upper left corner of the trim that attaches the back windshield to the top and the car and rear door. I have photos included the dealership admitted to it not existing on their other models from that year and that I was correct although they could do nothing about it because it was an obvious manufacturing defect. I have photos included. . . Called national Nissan help line for assistance and they called me once and never responded to my emails after that.

19 Body problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/05/2023

The hood latch recall was done June 2022, but it became malfunction 1 year after recall was done. When driving, the hood flies up and almost hit the windshield. Luckily I didn't drive on the highway. Called the dealer and said it was out of the warranty which is 1 year or 10000 miles after the recall. Why this important parts have so short warranty. The hood can't be open when I closed it after the incident . And the dealer said it will cost $500 to open and fix them.

20 Body problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/21/2023

Hello, I took my Nissan Altima into my local Nissan dealer for a hood latch recall on 11/13/2023. On 11/21/2023 at about 6:40 pm I was driving my car at a speed of maybe 45-50mph and my hood flew open hitting my windshield causing damage to my car, and scaring my son and I. I called the dealer the next morning and spoke to anthony from the service department regarding this situation, and he stated a faulty latch could have been put on my car, causing this to happen. I sent pictures to him via email, and he advised that he would contact the director and call me back with an update. I received a callback within hours advising Nissan would cover the damages but I would need to contact consumer affairs to see which location could do the repairs as they were behind by 8 month at that location in particular and could not provide me with a loaner car. After a week of waiting for an update from a dealer to confirm repairs, I had the car towed to the thomas Nissan of joliet on 12/4/2023 as the car would not accelerate anymore due to the hard brake. As of today 12/18/2023 I have spoken to the service manager there and he advised parts came in but they do not have a date for repairs or approval on the acceleration issue and for now will only repair the body. I advised that I am extremely saddened by the way I am being handled after such a traumatic ordeal that could have been deadly or life altering. This recall was supposed to prevent this issue, and it only caused it. This recall hasn't done anything to fix the cars, and neither have three other hood latch recalls for Altima cars. Altima drivers are in danger from hoods that suddenly fly open while driving, and this situation just proves a problem. Nissan doesn't know how to properly repair it, and my car and I are proof.

21 Body problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/05/2023

I was driving on the freeway and my hood popped and shattered my windshield. Why would you guys even allow a car on the roads with a defect as such? this is extremely dangerous! now I am pretty much w/o transportation. I'm even more upset that I had to find out about the defect the hard way, to see that this is a known issue. What's next? looks like a few people have complained about this issue, even after you guys supposedly fixed it. So, apparently your little fix didn't work. So, offering a new hood and window is not an option, I do not feel safe especially with little pieces of glass in my skin and in myt boyfriends skin!! there was also damaged on the inside of the car that hit me in my head and face!!!!!!!!!!!.

22 Body problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/24/2023

Hood latch will not release. Suspect the latch or components under the hood, similar to other Nissan Altima's that were recalled for same issue, failed similarly and now repairs and or quick access to engine bay in the event of an emergency is impossible without first repairing the latch and components involved. Called Nissan dealership they said some Nissan Altima's had been recalled for the same issue, but not mine. No indication of failure until owner attempted to open the hood. Hood had opened up till the last service at a Nissan dealership. Scheduled repair at a Nissan dealership at my own expense since it isn't covered under recalls like other Nissan Altima's.

Inspection is available, but note that car is in very poor shape and melted. All persons in the vehicle at the time of the incident were in extreme danger as the car showed no warning signed in the engine heat or check lights in the dashboard before the engine sputtered and slowed, the electrical sparked, and the whole front of the car caught on fire. The fire spread on a matter of 10 minutes and burst the windshield and front tires from the flames. Police inspected the remains of the vehicle and were unable to discover the source outside of the leaking oil still on fire by the electrical unit. 29 Body problem of the 2020 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/09/2023

Tie rod ball joint snapped and broke at 15mph causing vehichle to loose control and forced off-road into a fence post. No collison warning or lane departure warning. I had the vehichle towed back to dealership Nissan wesley chapel. I was in process of possibly purchasing vehichle. Couldn’t find financing for me so received a letter rescinding their transaction. My ins agency esurance concluded it a tota loss. Never heard back from Nissan or my ins. Agency on what caused it to break. Everytime I asked I was never given a response. I have several photos of vehichle and found a recall for tie rod and ball joint fasteners on same make and year. Would like some answers to this safety issue being if I was going faster I could have been killed. 2 days prior to accident began hearing clicking noise when going over speed bump. Took vehichle for private inspection and a vehicle system scan reported systems w/codes for intelligent cruise control/advanced driver assistance system and laser/radar.
