Rusted floorboards after warranty expired.

I took my 2003 Nissan Altima to get a PA inspection and was shocked that the floor panels on the driver and passenger side of the car had rusted out. There is no other visible rust on the car and I feel this is a design flaw which should be remedied at Nissans expense.

8 Underbody Shield problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/25/2013

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima that I bought in 2008 and has had nothing but problems, first had to replace the steering knuckle because the steering was going out ($400) than had to replace the motor mounts, struts, inner/outer tie rods, I have no heat when at idle, while putting new tires on again, I also learned my floor boards are almost rusted through, and now I can not even drive my car because about 3 weeks ago it started sucking down oil ( 4 qts within a 3-6 hour time frame) and it's smoking bad out the tail pipe because of the head gasket/piston rings caused by a faulty pre-cat, and told I need to replace the engine. I see there is a recall for the 2. 5l engine for this issue but on a 2006 model, what about my 2005 model with same engine?? searching the internet I find hundreds if not thousands of people having this same issues in 2002-2006 Altima's, obviously there is a problem with these engines and Nissan should be held accountable!!.

9 Underbody Shield problem of the 2003 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

Underbody of passenger side of car with large hole(20 by 20) in it discovered when 4 wheel alignment was being done. This affects the safety of person sitting in that seat since the seat base is damaged and the seat with the passenger buckled in that seat would propel out the windshield in an accident. Hundreds and hundreds of safety concerns are noted online during a search of Nissan Altima underbody holes/rust. I think this is extremely unsafe and it has been noted over and over in complaints online and nothing has been done. There are no safety bulletins, no recalls, etc. My shop said this is the second one recently and when I called the Nissan dealer he said they have another car just today that also has this problem. It's over $1000 to repair and no part is available to replace that/ the seat has to be removed, the carpeting removed, the area welded with a piece of metal , etc. Etc.

10 Underbody Shield problem of the 2006 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/13/2012

Took for inspection. Service dealer said driver side floor board rusted into interior. Car has been serviced at dealership following all safety maintenance checkups, even last month. No one mentioned any form of rust at the time. Dealer said there have been quite a few similar problems from 2002-2006, but they did not think it was important to check this out on last safety maintenance visit. I'm upset Nissan is not covering this obvious defect and only after 5 years plus car had undercoating applied from factory. Next car ???????.

11 Underbody Shield problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/30/2012

Like other customers, my 2002 Nissan Altima v6 developed a rusted floor board in both the front areas with metals flaking off even at an early time. I didn't realize there were a lot of us having this problem with this model. . This is the only part of the car that is very badly rusted, all of the other parts have barely any rust. I think this is something that really needs investigation.

12 Underbody Shield problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/22/2012

I took my car in to get an oil change. While my car was on the lift we noticed a huge rust spot under the passenger side. They were able to easily put a screwdriver inside the hole and it lifted my carpet. And what I don't understand is that one month earlier my car was in the shop putting on new tierods and bushings, and there was no rust at all. So in one month the undercoating was gone and a huge rust hole appeared. I took my car to the dealer and they said my warranty was over and it would be about $900 to fix. This is crazy. I've never had any major problems with this car and it only has 62,000 on it. Nissan needs to make this a recall because this is happening to alot of the Altimas. This is a major safety problem. And if this is not resolved I will no longer be buying from Nissan.

13 Underbody Shield problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/21/2012

I own a 2002 Nissan Altima that has 98,000 miles upon lifting the car the floor board on the passenger side was showing rust on both the driver`s and passenger`s side. It is an excellent car but it is basically trash now. Nissan is so irresponsible this is a factory defect and they should recall all Altima`s with this problem. Toyota is way more responsible when their car`s have a problem they are quick to recall,it is ridiculous. Nissan is ridiculous!!!!!.

14 Underbody Shield problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/15/2012

I own a 2005 Nissan Altima. I currently had an oil change at a local garage and was informed that my floor boards are rusted with holes starting to form. My car only has 85,000 miles and is kept in the garage and washed often. This is the only spot on my car that I have any rust. I contacted Nissan about this issue and was informed that this is a common issue with the Altimas. I had just had a sticker put on by Nissan and also a 72 point inspection and was never informed by them that there was holes underneath my car! Nissan said they would go half on the cost of repairing both front floorboards which would cost me $400. 00 which I do not have. My main concern for this issue is come winter time, I will have holes through my floorboards and with two small children in my car, I am extremely conserned about having toxic fumes enter into my car which could lead to passing out or the fact that my foot could go right through the floor. This is a major safety issue and Nissan should be backing up their products as this is a common issue with the manufacturing of their metal.

15 Underbody Shield problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/14/2012

I have recently discovered the driver and passenger side floor boards are severely rusted through to the bottom of the carpet! this is a serious safety hazard with potential for injury from stepping through and possible death from exhaust fumes causing unconsciousness while driving. There is absolutely no rust anywhere else on the car?! to my knowledge there are numerous consumer complaints about this very problem with no record of a recall on file to correct the structural problem of the vehicle.

16 Underbody Shield problem of the 2007 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

Noticed the rear sway bar was broken on the passenger side of the car. No indication of excessive corrosion or damage from hitting anything. Car is garage kept. Car is driven by a senior with usually 1 passenger or less around town. No evidence that this should have broken. Nissan is reviewing the case now.

17 Underbody Shield problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/18/2012

I had my oil changed and the mechanic told me both front side floor panels are rusted through. After doing research, I have found that many other consumers who drive Nissan Altima's have the same issue. I spoke with Nissan consumer affairs and they are unwilling to help cover the cost to have the car fixed. After reading numerous boards of information I was advised to contact the NHTSA. I feel this is definitely a manufacturer defect on the car and there should be a recall. There are too many cases of rusted out floor boards and it is a safety hazard. I am hoping you can help me work with Nissan in covering the costs of the repairs which can be expensive. Thank you for you time.

18 Underbody Shield problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/04/2012

I own a 2002 Nissan Altima which just failed inspection due to rusted holes under the front floor of the driver and passenger sides. I have read many other complaints of this exact same problem on the Nissan Altima's. I expect Nissan to stand by their vehicles and cover the expense of repairing these holes. There needs to be a recall for this issue by Nissan. This is a major defect in the manufacturing of these vehicles.

19 Underbody Shield problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

Driver's and passenger floor boards rusted completely though, holes in floor. Car was well maintained.

20 Underbody Shield problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/30/2011

While my mechanic was reattaching the bumper guard that had come loose, he noticed the rust on the floor pans under both front seats. My mechanic was able to flake off large pieces of rust. He pulled back the carpet and it was rusted all the way through. He said he hadn't seen this kind of rust on vehicles that are double the age of mine. The remainder of the undercarriage was rust free. I took the car into the Nissan dealer where I bought it, and the manager said it was caused by the salt/chemicals used on the roads in different parts of the country (apparently he was not including nebraska). The manager stated that it must have been in an area of the country that uses corrosive materials on the roads. The funny thing is that when I purchased this car, the same man said he knew the previous owners and they took excellent care of the vehicle, always spotless and in for every maintenance check!! which time was he lying!!! come to find out, the car was purchased at a Nissan dealer here in omaha, and stayed in omaha the entire time. The Nissan dealer said they could not fix it, and they gave me a business card for a body shop!!! it would cost about $300, he told me, but I have found it would be closer to $2000. At that time, I hadn't even had the car a year. The dealership had to know about the rust when they sold it to me, which makes me very angry!! this is a severe safety issue! I am afraid that one day I will be driving down the highway, I'll fall through the floor, and of course, I will be killed, no doubt about it!! also, exhaust fumes could be getting into the passenger compartment. Please issue a recall before my car becomes a "flintstone" car and/or I am killed. Nissan is responsible for this safety issue, and they should take responsibility!!.

21 Underbody Shield problem of the 2007 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/26/2011

Rust is causing perforation through the body of car. Nissan won't honor corrosion warranty.

22 Underbody Shield problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

The heat shield was installed improperly, which caused the vehicle to stall, and other components to fail. (exhaust manifold, a/c, 02 sensor) the manufacturer was aware of the problem. Mr scc.
