Takara recall - the low-beam headlights in my Altima are dangerously dim, and I was told it had nothing to do with my bulbs. I was told by Nissan it's a wiring issue but online it states "the material inside the projector bowl wear down, burn off, or scuff up, the projector lens doesn't receive as much light to, well project".

Car was sputtering at intersections and hard to start. Took to mechanic twice & he could not find anything wrong; said he thought it might be a recall problem; say where there was a problem with the wiring harness on full pump shorting out; part is on national recall; service engine light remained on.

Nissan Altima 2010 (~25k miles so far) would not start upon press the start button, so the car is immobilized. Walked away, came back 15 minutes, and by chance, it started. This happen several times for the past 2 months. The last try, no such luck when attempt to start the car. Check the car battery was at 45%. So I charged the battery to 100% and still no luck starting the car. Call Nissanassist and recommended the car be towed to Nissan authorized service center. I did and their diagnosis ($119. 00) are a bad brake switch/wiring harness combo issue and cost about over $600. 00. The car is now out of warranty. The local service manager said "off the record", this known defective brake switch will not allow the car to start, also it is consuming the battery electrical current and over time. This continuous bleeding of current will heat up the wire harness/connectors due to the car starting and its security features, and thus eventually draining your car battery and damaging the wire harness. That is why you will have a dead battery over time of 1-2 weeks. This is a money making proposition for Nissan corporation and the local service person mentioned about a rash of bad switch occurrences last year (2013). In short, if you don't use the Nissan service department for your car and spend $$$ with them, the Nissanassist won't help you defray the cost for the car defective as you did not "invest" with them . So NHTSA, people won't die with this defective, but will cause many inconveniences with dead cars at various locations where drivers turn off their cars and frustrated on attempting to start their cars. This is the same problem noted on Nissan blog and websites by frustrated Nissan Altima owners. In summary, can NHTSA investigated and force Nissan to issue a recall for this recurring problem as no one die yet? yes, no one will die from this.

Include my 2009 Altima 2. 5sl to the growing list of steering column electrical short problems. I too had just turned off the car and 20 minutes later returned to find it would not start. Brake felt depressed when I first put my foot on it. Pushed the button and nothing happened. Tried the key in the dash slot, and nothing. Called dealer, he told me to try and jump start with cables and that didn't work. Had to have it towed to dealer. Was told it was the very common electrical steering column short, and the fix was 1100. 00. Luckily I had purchased a service contract when I bought the car in 2011. Paid deductible of 100. 00. This absolutely should be a Nissan recall. Dealer told me the problem is on the recall list for the 370z, but had not made it yet for Altima. I did see through research and a friend who works for Nissan, that they changed that wiring in the model years that followed.
The contact owns a 2002 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated without manual force and fire emerged from the harness of the vehicle. The fire was submerged by the contact. A police report was filed. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the push-to-start button failed to respond. The contact also stated that the abs and the slp warning lights illuminated. The vehicle would start after multiple attempts or the vehicle would have to receive a jump start to the battery from another vehicle in order to start properly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing and the mechanic stated that the brake and the park light switch failed. As a result the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100.
Brand new 2007 Nissan Altima took to deale r at 2915 for oil change and asked them to check brakes. They told me they needed to replace back brake pads. While waiting 6 hours they finally were going to let me take it, but the warning light came on. The mechanics were not sure what caused this and they needed the car to stay. At one point I was told the computerwas not doing what it was supposed to with the car. After several days I was told they would need to replace the wiring harness. Needless to say when I finally picked up the car they only fixed the wiring harness. It had trouble starting as well. I wait several minutes checking to see that car was in park and brake pedal pushed in and pushed on the ignition with thumb, and nd it took several tries before car started. Mind you this was a brand new car? very frustrated.

2006 Nissan Altima customer received recall letter and has been unable to get car fix and can't let the car sit and pay car note and insurance* the consumer stated a new engine was installed in the vehicle due to a recall. Three weeks later, the vehicle went into limp mode and the speed decreased. The vehicle was towed and the consumer was later informed that the vehicle needed a new transmission. The consumer returned the vehicle back to the dealer and upon inspection they stated the wiring harness was unplugged.
Faulty driver side and passenger side power windows. When the car is locked, approximately 5 minutes later, the headlights blink once and the driver side and passenger side window automatically roll all the way down.

On June 7, 2006 my wife was driving her 2005 Nissan Altima in a road construction area of I-10 in vidor, TX. There were concrete barriers on both sides of the interstate. She ran over a piece of tire in the middle of the lane and the car died. She was left stranded on the interstate. The car would not immediately restart, but started after a few minutes. The vidor police drove it off of the interstate but it was stuck in a higher gear. Upon inspection there is a electrical connection on the bottom of the transmission that came undone. There is a heat shield around the connection, but it does not protect the connection from being struck by road debris. If this is going to kill the car engine along with the power steering and brakes, then it should be better protected.
Our engine seized up while we were driving, oil light came on and the brake light came on as the car died but not before the car died, while we were out of town coming home from a business trip. The Nissan dealership said that the drain plug was missing. The oil light is supposed to come on no matter what when it gets low on oil, that is an electrical problem which is covered under the warranty that they pressured us into buying for $1500. Now they are not honoring any service agreements they made. They are in breach of contract. We have been paying for hotels, car rentals, food, gas, hitchhiking, everything. . . . . We need to be reimbursed for everything and have Nissan take over payments for our car rental, loss of work, returning car, and getting a new one. We have spent five days now screwing with everyone except someone that will help. I have literally talked to 90 people or more since our car broke down. We want help right now, or we will sue trophy Nissan immediately.
Vehicle caught on fire after it had been parked for more than 8 hours. Owner contacted the manufacturer and nothing was done.

I bought this 2000 Nissan Altima new. Since approximately December of '03 the instrument cluster has repeatedly (too many times to keep track of) malfunctioned at arbitrary times giving either no info (gauges all go to 0) or incorrect info (130 mph at 1k rpm w/no water temp and suddenly full tank of gas). Problem can last any where from minutes to 24 hours+. The cruise control also malfunctions whenever this occurs. First took to dealer on 12/31/03, they could not diagnose problem, told me to bring it back while malfunctioning. Finally was able to get the car while malfunctioning to same dealership on 8/1/05. Problem has started to increase in frequency and duration. The second they hooked diagnostic equip to it the cluster corrected. They kept for 2 days, did not malfunction again so they could not diagnose 100%. They want to try replacing the speedometer head at $320, but 1) can't guarantee it will solve problem and 2) can't get part. They estimate 6-8 wks minimum to get part. When I went to leave dealership cluster malfunctioned showing no information, but no technician was available to diagnose. Showed zero on all gauges except gas which arbitrarily read 3/4 tank for entire 20-25 mile trip home. This car is an accident, or worse, waiting to happen.

While driving 30 mph vehicle caught on fire. As result, consumer almost lost control. No injuries reported. The consumer received two recall notices related to problems which could result in a fire (recall 03v-455 and 04v-251). It is unclear if the consumer had theses recall done and if the consumer received these notices before of after the failure. The consumer has retained a lawyer.
My vehicle is a 2000 Nissan Altima se. (also I have heard there are other Nissans with this problem not just Altima) the problem is the guages on the instrument panel failing during operation, ie. Speedometer, tachometer, gas guage, and temp guage. The first time it happened and just like every other time it happens there is nothing different the guages will just shut off and normally fall to the zero postion. Sometimes the will freeze in place. After the first month I owned the car (bought as a preowned vehicle) the check engine light came on during the guage failures I had the code checked and it was determined the speed sensor was bad. I bought and replaced the speed sensor with an oem part. However the guage failure was not fixed it still happens. The incident date started 21feb2003 and still persists and the numbers of failures I haven't kept count but about average of everyother day it goes out.
While traveling 70mph on highway and without prior warning engine check light appeared on dashboard, indicating that vehicle caught on fire. The dealership was aware of the problem. There was a sudden loss of power, there was also a clicking sound as if it were coming from the fuel injection system, the oil light, and the light had illuminated.
July of 2002 (days before my vacation) my Altima would not start. I was under an third party service agreement and was towed 25 miles from work to the selling dealership. It was determined that wires in/ around the fuel pump had been severely damaged and needed to be replaced, the damage to the wires caused excessive strain on the fuel pump, in turn the fuel pump also had failed. Not all of the repairs were covered components. The exact same failure occurred again in October 2002, however the warranty had expired and all costs were now my responsibility in full. Now, may 2003 the exact failure again has occurred. Each failure has carried a minimum shop charge of approx $475. 00 for parts and labor, not to mention the several times I have needed a tow. No failure codes are activated when the vehicle is hooked up to a diagnostics computer. Each dealer has had a hard time troubleshooting the problem as the car usually is towed and will starts the next day. However after leaving the dealership the vehicle will fail again within 24 hours, resulting in another tow. Dealerships are not pleased that they have to get into the car and troubleshoot rather than using the diagnostic computer.
Three times in the last seven months vehicle has accelerated on its own. Nissan could not duplicate this problem. The problem started after transmission was rebuilt, and the radiator, auto transaxle assembly and throttle valve switch were replaced. The transmission was not shifting from second gear to third due to control valve assembly failure. Next, the gas pedal went to floor but the dealer could not duplicate it. However, the dealer replaced the wiring assembly. The problem still exists.
