Safety defect complaint – 2020 Nissan Armada I am reporting a serious safety concern involving my 2020 Nissan Armada with approximately 90,000 miles. On August 6, 2026, the right/passenger-side exterior mirror suddenly became extremely hot and then exploded/broke. The failure also caused damage to the surrounding area near the side of the windshield/side guard. This happened unexpectedly and created a serious safety concern. I am concerned that an electrical or heating problem with the mirror may have caused it to become excessively hot and break. I am also concerned that this could happen to other Nissan Armada owners. I am requesting that this incident be investigated as a possible safety defect and that Nissan and NHTSA determine whether this problem is related to a recall, known defect, or electrical/heating issue. Vehicle: 2020 Nissan Armada mileage: approximately 90,000 miles incident date: August 6, 2026 affected area: right/passenger-side exterior mirror and surrounding windshield/side-guard area I have photographs of the damage and can provide additional documentation, repair estimates, and vehicle information if needed. I would appreciate an investigation of this safety issue and information regarding whether Nissan will cover the repair.

I am reporting recurring failures involving the vehicle's electronic control systems. These issues have been documented with the dealership on multiple occasions and a Nissan district technical service manager (dtsm) has also inspected the vehicle. Nissan has not been able to replicate the issues as they are intermittent. Braking system: when sitting at a stop light, where I had my foot on the brake, I heard a pump/whooshing sound from the front of the vehicle while the brake pedal suddenly traveled to the floor. On two separate occasions, the pedal has also become rock-hard. The Nissan dtsm was not able to replicate and suggested that the brake pedal becoming hard or going to the floor is "normal", and that my car showed no codes, and there was no recommended action required--that as long as the vehicle stopped, it was not a problem. After the dtsm inspected the vehicle, the brake pedal went fully to the floor five consecutive times while backing out of a parking space. I heard the same pump/whooshing sound from the front of the vehicle. Because I was backing up slowly, and the brake pedal was not responding to me given it was going fully to the floor, it was unclear how much braking power I truly had. The pump continued to make noise as the first few times I pressed the brakes driving away. Engine/transmission: when the gas pedal is released, the engine intermittently continues to rev, and not respond to throttle input as designed, requiring the use of the brake to force a shift. But, Nissan stated they are aware that there is "general dissatisfaction" with the transmission overall, and suggested I wait for a future software update in the hopes that it may address some of the concerns. Electrical/integrated components: failures include side mirrors failing to open or lock into position when driving. Audio/nav system: once when driving in an unfamiliar area, the audio/sound went out, with no turn by turn (or radio) sound at all, forcing me to watch the screen.
After being stranded, getting a new battery, being stranded again and again (with a newborn and toddlers). This is a serious electrical issue causing the battery to not fully be charged even when car is off. No external components plugged in. Many people have this issue with the car and it needs to be addressed as a recall.

The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that the vehicle occasionally failed to start as needed. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the Smart alternator had caused the battery to drain. The dealer informed the contact that the alternator kit needed to be reassembled, and an unknown system needed to be reconfigured. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

My 2018 Nissan Armada has had so many issues (probably 15-20) with not starting when cranked. Something is draining its battery. We have had to change the battery so many times (usually 2-3 times every year or two. ) this happens without any notice! we have been stranded in other cities, stores, &/or at work. We have tried having it checked out by different repair shops, replacing batteries in key fob, replacing battery many times, and checking the brake pedal switch. We are at our witt’s end with Nissans!.

Purchased this vehicle in August 2024. A month later car wouldn’t start and the battery died. The dealership replaced it. 14 months later (October 2025) the car wouldn’t start again. Engine light came on. We took it to warranty approved shop and they told us the battery had died. Again. 7 months later the car won’t start. Engine light turned on. Took it to warranty approved shop and they said the battery had died again. The shop owner said it was related to a Smart battery charger and it was draining our battery even when off. He mentioned this was common for 2020 Nissan Armada and the only solution was to keep replacing batteries every few months.
The infotainment screen is blank after starting the vehicle. Nothing comes up on the display preventing you from using or seeing backup camera, maps, vehicle settings, music, basically anything that would normally be displayed on the infotainment screen. Not being able to access the backup camera limits visibility potentially causing accidents. This has happened intermittently since buying the vehicle in August 2025. My local Nissan service replaced the radio in an attempt to fix the problem. However it has continued to happen. Now service says Nissan is coming out with a software update that should fix it but I’m concerned it won’t be repaired while the vehicle is still under warranty. When you can’t access the backup camera in particular it’s a safety issue that Nissan should be required to fix whether a car is under warranty or not.

I am writing to report a critical safety failure regarding my vehicle’s display systems. While driving, the left side of the infotainment system (the digital instrument cluster) went completely dark. I lost all visibility of my speedometer, odometer, and critical vehicle warnings. I immediately pulled over and attempted to power-cycle the vehicle, but the display remained unresponsive. Shortly after, the right side of the infotainment system also failed, resulting in a total loss of control over the hvac (ac), radio, and integrated garage door opener. This is a recurring issue documented by other owners of this model, and given the loss of the speedometer while in motion, I consider the vehicle unsafe to drive until repaired.

The contact owns a 2026 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the infotainment center independently blinked on and off. The rear-view camera displayed an error message of the rear wheels. The accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving forward or while reversing. Additionally, the transmission was sluggish. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failure of the radio. The contact was informed that an unknown recall was performed prior to the contact purchasing the vehicle. The contact was informed that the recall repair was improperly performed and had caused the failure of the awd system. The contact was informed that a software update was needed, and the awd system needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The failure reoccurred while out of state on a work assignment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,500.
I was driving and the left side of infotainment system went out. I could not see my speed, odometer everything on the dash. I pulled over, stopped the car, turned it off and on but that did not work. This was very dangerous. After sitting for about 30 minutes it started working. I took it to the dealer and picked it up because they were waiting on direction from Nissan. Then the right side of the infotainment went out. It has not come back on. This side controls the radio, ac and garage door opener. Something is wrong and I am not the only owner this has happened to.
Infotainment system freezes and goes black. Braking system makes popping and clicking noises and have to press hard to stop the vehicle. Vehicle has been in the shop now 5 times and over 30+ days. The braking system failure has put my safety and others at risk to due to not being able to brake correctly.
Driver side speedometer screen blank. Navigation screen working find. No turn signal indicator. Turn on and restart vehicle screen still blank. Aug 10 2025 first time happen. Feb 7 2026 second time. I bought up this issue to the dealership. They have no solution. Already have the recall done recently for the backup camera.
Collision with deer. The vehicle cannot be driven because Nissan cannot supply a bumper with no eta.
The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving, the engine overheated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was jump-started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a low-voltage battery. The battery was replaced. After the battery was replaced, there was battery acid leaking from the battery. The battery was replaced a second and a third time; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000.

Check engine light and collision lights come on at start of vehicle due to the wiring harness issue. The throttle body and emc have been replaced. This is a huge safety concern as it effects the engine and the operation of the vehicle. The problem continues even after the dealer has confirmed and reproduced the issue.

Our 2025 Nissan pro4x has had infotainment outages which means the speedometer is not displayed, the camera does not display, the collision detection does not display, the screen goes blank so we can see anything on the screen that assist our driving we are not the only ones experiencing this issue.
Battery drain happens and vehicle will be hard to start or not start at all. New battery was installed and 4 months later, same issue. It has been taken into dealership multiple times and they can never recreate the issue and have found nothing wrong with the vehicle to repair. This has caused wife and kids to be stranded because vehicle won’t start. No warning lights, nothing that the dealership found to cause issue.
Dashboard lights for speedometer blink and half the side has gone dark.
Bought vehicle used from dealer so it must have been damaged by previous owner. In less than 1 hour driving in freeway over 60mph in extreme outside heat of 107f, the transmission went out. It was returned to the dealer and dealer is fixing the problems.

On July 29, 2025, while pulling into the driveway, my 2023 Nissan Armada experienced a complete electrical and brake failure. I put the vehicle in park, and the entire dash and infotainment screen went black while the engine was still running. The vehicle began rolling forward even though it was in park and bumped into the house. (minimal damage thankfully) when I tried to stop it, the brake pedal went completely to the floor with no braking power at all. The shifter was locked in park, and I could not put it into reverse or neutral. I had to press and hold the start/stop button to turn the vehicle off. After restarting, everything returned to normal and I was able to then shift into reverse, but this is a major safety issue there was a total loss of braking and transmission control. Currently Nissan is telling me that it could have been because the car needed a “software update” and also can be caused by a “bad battery” and they have had several customers with similar break issues and electronic failure due to the battery. This is completely unacceptable and dangerous. My babies were in the car we were terrified!! currently I just have a tow receipt as Nissan of boerne still has the vehicle.
My 2018 Nissan Armada (VIN: jn8ay2nc7j9555623) has been experiencing no-start issues consistently for the past three years. Two years ago, I purchased a new battery from a Nissan dealership after being told the existing one had failed. Despite that replacement, the problem persisted and continues to this day. The vehicle intermittently fails to start, often producing only a click sound even though the battery, alternator, and starter test as functional. I now have to jump my car at least five times a week just to drive it. Through research and online forums, I’ve found that many other owners of this model report identical issues, which appear linked to the brake lamp switch or body control module (bcm). While Nissan has issued technical service bulletins for these concerns, no formal recall has been offered. This ongoing electrical malfunction is a serious reliability and safety issue—especially if the vehicle fails to start during a critical situation—and I urge NHTSA to investigate.

I purchased a 2021 Nissan armana back in September 2024. The vehicle has been giving issues leaving me stranded and with my vehicle battery drained. I’ve purchased two batteries for my vehicle within a 9 months period that I’ve had the vehicle.
Here’s a full response you can paste into the NHTSA. Gov form text box that directly answers all of the questions shown in your screenshot: ? component/system: the battery and electrical charging system on my 2020 Nissan Armada have repeatedly failed. The vehicle experiences sudden and unexplained battery drain even after regular driving. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: this issue has caused my vehicle to fail to start on at least five separate occasions over the past month. I have been stranded in public places, including with my children, and now must carry a battery jump starter at all times. This is a safety concern, especially if the failure happens at night, in a remote location, during extreme weather, or in an emergency. The vehicle cannot be trusted to start reliably, putting me and others at risk. Confirmed by dealer or service center: not yet. I have not reported this specific battery issue to the dealership yet, as I have been tracking the frequency and pattern of failures before pursuing service. However, based on research, this appears to be a recurring issue with 2020 Nissan Armadas and may relate to an electrical or alternator defect. Inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance: no. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by Nissan corporate, law enforcement, or insurance. It has not been in a crash. Warning lamps or symptoms: there were no dashboard alerts, warning lights, or error messages before each battery failure. The issue started about a month ago and has occurred five times since, always resolved temporarily by using a jump box. The battery appears to drain randomly when the car is off, despite recent driving.
No start, no codes. Have replaced brake switch several times and it fixes it for a bit and then happens again. I have read several forums and it seems to be a commen issue but no recalls for fault. 2018 Nissan Armada platinum. Shouldn't have to keep replacing switch.
The wireless charging pad gets so hot that it will issue a temperature warning on my phone and shut it off until it cools down. After researching, it's a common issue for the year and make of my vehicle. I feel like this is a fire hazard. I drive with my grandson who is still in a car seat, it's a concern that if the car caught on fire, could I get him out of the car seat fast enough. I know Nissan is aware of the issue but so far, they haven't issued a solution. I have used wireless charging pads in Ford and Toyota vehicles and have never had this problem.
The display control unit (dcu) has failed in my 18 Armada. My VIN is not part of the recall with the other 18 Armada models. The safety features of the collision warning system does not work because the dcu has failed. This is a pedestrian safety issue. The navigation system does not work because the dcu has failed. None of the control panel buttons on dash or the steering wheels work because the dcu has failed including the cruise control. The Nissan dealership has confirmed it is the dcu but it is not under the recall with my VIN, however it appears all 18 Armada's have been recalled due to the same issue. No warning lights appears, the display screen stopped working only displaying the Nissan symbol. I would like my VIN added to the recall list for the dcu so the vehicle can become safe to myself and others. Replacement is nearly $%,000. 00 dollars 1 affected product vehicle make Nissanmodel amarda.
The start hesitation started about 2 years ago, but my Armada never did not start. Then about a year so ago the Armada would not start, and it would not start in dover, DE, and I had to call geico to get a jump. I had a brand-new battery installed thinking that was the issue months prior, but my Armada would not start again. I took it to the dealership, and they charged me diagnostic but could not find any issues. After numerous times of my Armada not starting, I bought portable jumper whenever this happens. Just last week I was in milford and went to start my Armada and it would not start. It clicked and then no power anywhere. . . The same as other times. I called geico roadside and while waiting about 10 minutes, my Armada started, and I drove it straight home. I tried to start it the next day, and it started with a slight hesitation, but it started. So now when I go places, I will not turn my Armada off for fear it will not start again.
The display is not working properly, the low window washer fluid comes on and then goes off. The light in the back of the display wants to come on but doesn't. The sensors are lighting up when there is a vehicle next to you but no warning signal. Also there is no radio and the buttons on top do not work. I researched this and there was a recall for a dcu in 2018-2019 and that seems like the problem again. I have had nothing but issues with this car since I bought it. Nissan says its the battery which is highly doubtful because they just changed that and the brake switches a million times. Bcm came up a bunch of times also in the past but Nissan cant recreate the problem which I am starting be frustrated with and dont even want this car anymore although it was my dream car.
The battery in our car has repeatedly drained for no reason. There seems to be an issue with the battery not charging the alternator correctly. At times this causes electrical components to go out.
I’ve had my 2017 Armada since 2018 and have had issues from the beginning. My gps antenna has never worked and I assumed it was just a settings issue but after many attempts at resetting them and even purchasing the updated maps cd from the Nissan website it never fixed the issue. When I am driving you can feel the car jerk and slip. We have replaced the battery maybe 3 times in the last year. When I try to start my car it will turn on all the dash lights, shake, then shut off and sometimes if I wait it starts back up and other times it doesn’t. My car is running lean as well. I have kept up with the maintenance of my car and about 6 months ago I paid $3,000 to do repairs on it not related to these issues. These are all tsbs, but for some reason no recalls have been done. My car has become very unreliable.
