Nissan Frontier owners have reported 193 problems related to tank assembly (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Frontier based on all problems reported for the Frontier.
I refueled when my fuel gauge read 1/4, when I started the vehicle back up the gauge still only said 1/4 tank even though I had just filled up with 16 gallons. The service engine soon light also came on. After checking online there appear to be thousands of instances of the same occurrence happening to Nissan Frontiers, and xterras. I believe this is a manufacturing fault which needs to rectified with a recall.

I own a 2006 Nissan Frontier pickup. The fuel sending unit is defective and I have no way of knowing how much gas I have. This is not an inconvenience. It is a safety issue. I could run out of gas in traffic, causing an accident or I may have to replace it myself since I cannot afford to have the dealer do it. The repair is hazardous as it deals with removal of the fuel tank. 1/2 of the VIN numbers for this year Frontier have been recalled for repair of this defect and 1/2 have not. Those not recalled are experiencing the problem and Nissan is refusing to fix the problem.

I am having an issue with the fuel gauge on my 2007 Nissan Frontier king cab. First off when my tank would get to just under a quarter my check engine light would come on and I would have to disconnect and reconnect the battery to make the light go away. Now my gauge reads empty on a full tank of gas and the low fuel light and check engine light are on. This first happened right after filling my gas tank up all the way a few days ago. Gauge is stuck a empty and lights will not go away.

The fuel gauge gets stuck on 1/4 tank or shows no gas even when full. There is a recall on this year model for this problem but Nissan will not replace it because they say it was manufactured in the correct month. They did say the problem was more vehicles then the recall covered and for those vehicles they extended the warranty to 72 months or 72,000 miles so the dealership could fix it. Seeing as my vehicle has 90,000 miles they said they have no intentions of fixing this problem under the recall.
2006 Nissan Frontier with fuel gauge not working correctly at approx 55,000 miles on vehicle. Initially service engine soon light came on intermittently when the fuel reached approx 1/4 tank full. Now, ses light stays illuminated and actual gas gauge intermittently works. This is well documented problem addressed many many times on vehicle forums. This is a serious safety issue as I have no idea of how much gas is in my vehicle and the potential exists for an accident on a major road due to a real gas outage. There has been a safety bulletin about this but no recall yet to my understanding and has occurred throughout many different Nissan truck models from the xterra, pathfinder, and Frontier.
2005 Nissan Frontier gas gauge reads 1/4 full when the tank is empty. Causes me to run out of gas when driving in traffic. I drive with a gallon of gas in truck bed, so when I run out I can get to a gas station. I have to stand on the road with traffic going by to pour the gas in when it runs out, it's very dangerous to run out of gas when the gauge indicates there is gas in the tank. Nissan recalled 2006 to 2008 Frontiers but not 2005. I asked Nissan due to the production year 2005 and identical problem on the 2005, compared to the 2006- 2008 recall, to please repair they replied no, its not part of the recall . How do I hold Nissan responsible for issuing a defective product.
I was driving my 2005 Nissan Frontier and the vehicle ran out of gas while traveling on the roadway even though the gauges indicated 1/4 of a tank of gas remaining. I was nearly rear ended by another vehicle traveling behind me. Fortunately I was on a roadway with a travel speed of 35mph and not on a major highway. I had to push my vehicle to the roadside and call for assistance from a family member. I contacted the dealer to find that the vehicle is know to have a failure of the fuel level sending unit. I was told they have recalled 2006-2010 models of the Nissan Frontier but the 2005 model using the same part was not. I had to pay the dealer an 89. 95 diagnostic fee to confirm what they already told me and then pay 470. 00 additional in part and labor fees. Nissan consumer affairs was unresponsive and denies they have a problem with the 2005 model even though I presented them with a factory service bulletin I obtained that clearly identifies the problem for the 2005 model year and tells the dealer what to do, what to replace and allows them to claim for reimbursement for the part from Nissan. Service bulletin ntb07-069b part affected fuel level sending unit # 25060-zz00a.
After filling gas tank it drops to empty and service engine light comes on. After 43 miles it goes back up and then seems to work until next fill up. If idling in park for a few minutes it drops to empty again. Then the next day it goes back up again. It is constant problem and I never know how much gas I have other than tracking milage. Recall many others with same problem. Thanks.
This is a complaint about the same problem I'm having with my 2006 Nissan Frontier. I called Nissan and mentioned the recall notice for this and they would not guarantee that it would be covered. At this point the only way I can be sure that my vehicle has gas in it is to track the miles every time I fill up the fuel tank. The fuel gauge is useless and if I fill it up it immediately says it is empty, the yellow light comes on and my check engine light comes on. Even the Nissan recall notice says this is a safety issue but when I called them they said I "might" not be covered. . . . . 2006 Nissan Frontier with fuel gauge not working correctly at approx 80,000 miles on vehicle. The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Frontier. After adding gasoline to the fuel tank the contact noticed that the fuel indicator did not function and the check engine light had appeared on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 60000 and the failure mileage was 58000.
2005 Nissan Frontier crew cab le model. Fuel sending unit is defective. Fuel gauge does not read properly and does not indicate actual fuel level which has caused a stall due to lack of fuel when the gauge reads 1/4 tank. After learning of a recall for this problem, a search of my VIN number revealed that Nissan did not include my vehicle in the recall even though it is for the same issue that caused the recall.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that he refueled the vehicle and proceeded to drive 70 mph when the fuel level gauge displayed that the fuel level was empty and the low fuel level warning indicator was illuminated. In addition, the service engine soon light was illuminated. The contact stated that the fuel level gauge would only display accurate fuel levels when the fuel tank was approximately three-quarters full and would fail when the fuel tank was down to three eights of a tank. The failure began two months prior and the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel level sensor would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 71,000. Updated 01/20/11.
Regardless of much fuel is in the tank the fuel gauge on my 2005 Nissan Frontier (38000 miles) shows less than empty and the service engine light is on.
I own a 2007 Nissan Frontier se 4x4 crew cab pickup. I purchased the aforementioned vehicle new in 2007. Recently the "service engine soon" warning light came on. Shortly after the warning light came on I began to notice my fuel gauge needle dropping to empty or near empty when I knew I had at least 1/4 tank of gasoline. If I shut the engine off and started it back up the fuel gauge needle would indicate 1/4 tank, and then shortly afterward drop to empty or near empty. I did some research and found out that this problem seems to be very common and should warrant a recall. My vehicle has approximately 45,800 miles on it. In my opinion running out of fuel or being distracted by a malfunctioning fuel gauge could lead to an accident. I request that this problem is investigated and a recall is initiated immediately. Thank you for reading this.
Fuel gauge showed that I had a quarter tank but I ran out of gas. Went to station and filled up and gauge still showed 1/4 tank. On 8/2, gauge finally reported that I had 3/4 tank of gas which was probably close to what was in my tank. In doing some research, it appears this is a common problem for Nissan Frontiers, but my year (2007) does not show up in the recall database.
Service engine soon light comes on at 1/4 tank of gas. Code is 0463 faulty fuel level sensor. Apparently this is a problem with Nissans and have had previous recalls for this on older models. Mine is 2005 Nissan Frontier and I understand it costs between $400 to $600 to fix. Have not had the money to fix it yet.
On or about 7-15-10, I filled the fuel tank in my 2007 Nissan Frontier se crew cab to capacity. Within seconds of starting and driving the vehicle afterwards, the "service engine" warning light came on and my fuel gauge indicator dropped to the half-full mark. It has been erratic since that event and has not properly indicated how much fuel remains in the tank. On 7-16-10, I took the vehicle to the dealer from which it was purchased. Their service department diagnosed the problem and advised the vehicle needed a new fuel sending unit. They also advised that there was no recall on that part, although there was a recall on that part for the Nissan titan. Through research, I have discovered that Nissan has had previous recalls on fuel sending units on other model years and vehicles, and many owners have posted the similar problem online, specifically regarding the fuel sending unit on the 2007 Nissan Frontier. Nissan is at this time unwilling to repair the problem at their cost, which I find frustrating as it is an obvious part problem. My concern is that an inaccurate fuel level reading caused by this faulty unit could lead to a stalled vehicle in traffic, posing a considerable safety risk.
Gas gauge stuck on 1/4 tank.
I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, Frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600. ".
The fuel sending unit broke down and the gauge shows there is fuel left in the tank while it is actually empty. Danger since it increases the risk for a crash. Other VIN numbers same year and model has been recalled but mine not included.
Drove the truck with the low fuel warning light on for several miles. Upon filling up the tank, the low fuel light remained on and needle showed empty. Shortly afterward, the service engine light came on. Mil code is p0463 - fuel level sensor problem. Resetting the code works for a few days but then the mil light comes back on. The gas gauge is erratic, sometimes showing empty when it's not. So we have to track the approximate fuel remaining by using the trip odometer.
Nissan has recalled 2006 and 2008 Frontier for gas tank sending units which would show 1/4 tank of fuel but empty,2007's are having this problem but Nissan is refusing to recall them.
2005 Nissan Frontier crew cab. After filling the gas tank, the gage was reading 1/4 tank. Over the course of the day the gage increased till it read nearly full. Also, when the gage nears 1/4 tank, it will suddenly drop from 1/4 tank to dead empty with indicator light.
2006 Nissan Frontier's fuel gauge is sporadic. It will read 1/4 tank and then suddenly drop to empty and the low fuel light comes on. After filling, it may take an hours for the gauge to read full. Shortly after the problem started the service engine soon light came on. Computer error says error po463 fuel level sensor circuit high input probable cause: this is a safety issue. From NHTSA campaign #10v075000: "this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic increasing the risk of a crash". Nissan dealer service tech. Told me this a big issue with many more vehicles than the recall (NHTSA camp. #10v075000) covers. I contacted Nissan to ask if they planned to expand the recall. They said no and declined to assist with even the part for the 500 part. From looking at numerous forums and this site. I can see that the are many owners in the same situation--a defective gauge and their vehicle not covered by the current recall(s). I don't know the statistics on what it takes to trigger an expanded recall but I hope NHTSA looks into it.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact received repairs to the vehicle under NHTSA campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). Following repairs, the contact filled the vehicle with gasoline fuel and the fuel level indicator would not read accurate fuel levels. The dealer advised the fuel tank would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileages were 63,000.
2005 Nissan Frontier fuel sending unit failure when gas gage reached 1/2 tank the gauge failed to 0 with empty light on, service engine soon light came on and dte calculator went to --------- (58,576 miles) problem goes away when tank is refilled to more than 1/2 tank and reads normal, after about 90 miles service engine soon light goes out.
The fuel gauge on my Nissan Frontier 2005 model gives a incorrect reading and the service engine light comes on making it impossible to pass emission in the state of tennessee in order to receive paperwork to get registration and tags. Sometimes the problem corrects itself but it takes days maybe weeks. And the only way to keep up with how much fuel is inside the tank is to try to keep up the how many miles you have driven. How can you have a recall on 2006 models that have the same problem but not on 2005. It should be corrected by Nissan regardless of what model.
Fuel gauge in 2007 Nissan Frontier. . . . One minute I have a full tank next its empty. Fill the truck up and gauge says I'm only 1/4 full. I see there was a recall for the 2006 and 2008 for the same reason. Did they make a change for 2007 then went back to the old way in 2008. Dealership is saying the part alone is $540 bucks and recall does not cover the 2007 models.
2006 Nissan Frontier le 4x4 with may 2006 build date. Fuel gauge stopped registering upon fill up. Gauge needle drops to empty with low fuel light within 2 miles of fill up, followed by service engine soon light. After 3-5 days of driving, gauge intermittently starts reading actual fuel level and ses light goes off. Consequent weekly fill ups have exact same results. Nissan dealer says an active recall for fuel sending units does not cover my VIN. Impossible to tell how much fuel is in tank exactly on any given day. I use miles driven as gauge, and reset upon fill up weekly for a rough estimate.
Have a 2005 Nissan Frontier with approx. 62,000 miles. Went to fill the gas tank and when done noticed the gauge did not go up at all. Also the engine light went on. As I drove the gauge slowly went up to full and the dte reading adjusted to the approximate mileage to empty. Eventually the check engine light went off after driving for a few days. Filled the tank again and the same thing happened. Checked on line and seen that alot of people are having the same problem. Have not contacted the dealer yet.
I have a Nissan 2007 Frontier that I bought new back in Nov. 2007. This vehicle has a bad gas pump sensor that make a warning on the panel( engine problem ) because of this problem I am unable to read how much gas is left. It always mark the tank as empty. When I took it to the dealer, they stated that because my car VIN# was not on the recalls I could do anything. I am unable to travel interstate or long distances.
The fuel gauge and sending unit are defective both have been replaced by Nissan twice and both continue to fail on a weakly basis running out of fuel on the interstate wile the gauge reads a half tank Nissan refuses to fix since the truck is now out of warranty.
2005 Nissan Frontier has a known fuel gauge issue. There is a recall on 2006+ Frontiers that have the same exact part. The fuel sending unit attached to the gas tank is known to go bad, and is covered by Nissan under the recall, which doesn't include the problematic 2005 models out there. See NHTSA campaign number: 10v075000. The result is that the gas gauge and computer estimates of "distance until empty" are grossly erroneous and require constant monitoring of the range.
At about 37,000 miles, the fuel gauge on my 2006 Nissan Frontier started reading "empty" no matter how much fuel was in the tank, and the "check engine" light came on continuously. The fuel sensor was replaced with a "revised" unit and now at 46,000 miles, it is reading "empty" all the time, even when the tank is full.
Fuel tank level gauge not working properly, and service engine soon light on. The problem seems to be the fuel sending unit/sensor. I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Vehicles that are experiencing this problem are: 2005-2007 Frontiers, xterras, and pathfinders. There should be a recall on this issue with so many others having this same problem. This could be a safety issue not knowing the correct level of fuel in your vehicle. Someone could run out of gas on the highway and put their live or someone else's in jeopardy. This problem seems to be happening around approx. 39,000 to 50,000 mileage on odometer.
