I drive a 2005 nissian Maxima and about 5 months ago my car started jerking and hard shifts and then not shifting at all. I have only had this car for about 4 years and when I purchased it I was under the impression it was a good car. I have treat this car like a baby. Now I have it in the shop and I'm look at a $3,000 dollar bill to have my car repaired. I'm making a car payment on something I can't even drive. Spoke with the dealership and nissian and they say it's nothing they can do. It no longer under warranty. So I'm stuck. I have seen were nissian has had a lot of problems with the 04-05 transmissions and has done nothing about it.

Purchased a 2005 Nissan Maxima used with around 46k miles on it. I have loved the car up until it recently hit 65k miles and has started jerking while shifting, also putting into drive or reverse from park will be delayed. It jerked so hard the other day that it caused the check engine soon light to come on. Took to a local mechanic that has been doing oil changes, a/c repair, minor maintenance. . . They said that my transmission was shot, I needed 3 engine new engine mounts from the jerking, and engine sensor needed to be replaced. They suggested I take to the Nissan dealer. I took in and they called me the next day and said they could not duplicate any issues with the vehicle, and that the check engine light was not on. They are sweeping this well known transmission problem under the rug, but something needs to be done here, and a recall should be a must with over 300 plus complaints just here alone documented for this same issue on the same make and model!!! Nissan needs to step up before someone gets injured.
2005 Nissan Maxima like thousands of others has been shifting violently between gears causing dangerous driving conditions. Sometimes the car rpms will jump to 7500 before catching the gear and jerk to the car almost out of control. This needs to be fixed. It's ridiculous that almost all 2004-2008 Maximas have this problem and Nissan has corrected it but instead charge 3500+ for a new transmission. I'm so done with Nissan. This will be the last one I purchase!.

I own a 2005 Nissan Maxima. I am extremely disappointed with this vehicle. The car makes jerking movements occasionally when shifting from park to reverse or drive. You never know when it may happen and it feels as though you are hitting something. Today all the lights came, I could not accelerate and the mechanic is saying that it may be my transmission. . . 86,000 miles!! I cannot believe that I am replacing a transmission in a Nissan with 86,000 miles. I will never buy another Nissan and would not recommend. I have read multiple complaints and am so discouraged. This car is not safe with random jerking motions that Nissan cannot diagnose. This car needs to be recalled for its transmission. Nissan does not stand by its cars or service.

2004 Nissan Maxima sl -- faulty transmission.
2005 Nissan Maxima purchased new in 2004. The car keeps making sudden violent jerking movements while driving creating a potential hazard for a car accident. When this happens I have to pull over and restart the car. I can not drive the car on major highways and can not go more that 35mph. The car feels like it is slipping when attempting to drive after being at a stop. There is a long hesitation before the car begins to drive after being put in gear to drive. It also jerks forward suddenly when it does decide to move. Sometimes the car won't move when attempting to accelerate. At stop lights I have to shift gears at times to get it to move. Another incident included the car not stopping. I had to move it into first gear to get it to stop. The car jerks backwards when reversing. When these problems started the car was taken to Nissan because we suspected a transmission problem. They told us it was not the transmission but instead motor mounts, rods, and bolts. I spent almost $3,000 to repair it and the problem still continued. Now, I am being told that it is the transmission and given an estimate of $3100. Nissan has diagnosed this problem. We discovered that there are thousands of other consumers with the same complaint for the 2004-2005 Maxima. This indicates that this is a common problem that Nissan is actually aware of. The battery has also had to be replaced 3times. The power doors no longer work neither does the sun roof. I have to drive to get to work and to get the kids to school. I do not like to drive with my kids in the car for fear that the car will not stop again or that there will be a collision because of the jerky movements and the the cars hesitation. Nissan has been contacted. No resolution has been offered at this time. Car is still at the dealership.
I have a 2006 Maxima w/ 104k miles that is having the same jerking issues. In Aug 2011, the car lurched and jumped so bad in traffic while slowing down. It also happens whenever I am pulling from a stop light or reversing. This issue continued and sometime I have to stop the car because I thought I was going to get into an accident. Since this appears after the car is driven for about 15 minutes, I will let the car sit for a while before I drive it again. It will drive fine for a few miles and start lurching again. I took the car to our local Nissan dealer and I was told that I will need to pay them $105 for an inspection. I went on to tell them the issue and the service person acted as if he does not know what I was talking about. He was sarcastic in our conversation and he told me that I may have to buy a new transmission.
On 3 occassions, when trying to stop the car from a slow speed, the throttle failed to disconnect. I was able to slow the car down from 25 mph to 3mph, but I could not get it to stop until I put it into neutral. When I did that, the engine raced just like it would if you were on the gas and shifted to neutral. I have had the car for 13 months and this did not happen until2 months ago, and has now happened 3 times. Of course, Nissan can't replicate and says there is nothing wrong. Only happened at slow speed and within 5 minutes of starting the car after sitting for several hours. . Weather was above 70 all 3 times.

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that the vehicle would jerk abnormally when shifting gears. The failure also occurred when shifting from drive to reverse and from reverse to drive. The vehicle was not inspected. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 89,415.
Beginning at 38k miles the transmission has stopped engaging properly when accelelerating between 1st & 2nd gear of the automatic transmission. This occurs between 20 and 35mph and causes the vehicle to slam into gear with a force that negatively impacts the driver's ability to control the car causing an unsafe driving event. The event is as powerful as being hit from the rear while driving. The dealer charged $200 to flush the trans but this had no effect. I have made several attempts to engage the dealer but have had no response. I have investigated this problem and found it is wide spread with this models' 2005 & 2006 year vehicles but is denied by the manufacturer as a warranty coverage problem. Please forward this complaint to Nissan USA and request a reply.

My husband and I own 2004 Maxima. We are experiencing a transmission problem right about it got to 85000 miles. We have started noticing the delayed gear contact to make the car go and very hard jerking into the gear. It happend under slow traffic . The cars are ok to drive on the highways. I have contacted the Nissan and was told since it passed the 60000 miles it is out of warranty. We bought both cars as certified pre owned which supposedly covers the tranmission up to the 100000 miles. When I took it to the dealearship it was a day out of warranty. Nissan knew about this problem and they are not doing anything about it . They sold us a defected vechicles knowing they have problem with it . I have seen hundreds if not thousand of complaint with their 2004-2007 nisasan Maxima transmission. I am suprise they have not done any recall on them. Nissan should be accountable for their mistake and pay for the replacement. Liike I said we owe 2 Nissan Maximas , it is going to cost me $10,000 to fix thoses cars. What does it take for Nissan to own to their mistake ?.
The automatic transmission in my Nissan Maxima 2006 jerks when it changes from 1st to 2nd and 3rd. This also happens when I shift from park to reverse. Sometimes during acceleration, there is a 2 to 5 second delay before the car reacts which is extremely dangerous when merging into traffic. These problems usually happen after the car has warmed up and have become increasingly worse.
Car jerks and kicks when taking off and when stopping.

I am the original owner of a 2005 Maxima with 65,146 miles and I have been experiencing a very hard nock and pull when the vehicle shifts gears. I have researched the problem online and found about 100 complaints with the same symptoms. I belive their is defenitly a manufactures problem with the transmission.

Transmission jerks when shifting from reverse to drive, bangs into and out of gear. Sometimes you step on the gas and it revs up and grabs the gear so hard the tires break loose, other times it just drives fine.

My 2005 Maxima 3. 5 sl is experiencing problems with the transmission. When I shift from "park" to drive (forward or revers) there is a noticeable lag before the gears catch. On an incline it is very noticeable. While driving there is a whine and a drag feeling as if the engine is straining because it is in the wrong gear. There are times when the transmission is running through its gears that it appears it either misses a meshing or it is just spinning freely and when it kicks in there is a jerk between 1st and 2nd gear and then when I am slowing down. There is a jerk and thunk sound. Some times while stopped and sitting at a traffic light the vehicle will have a noticeable lurch forward. I know that the transmission/gear meshing is off because my gas mileage is off.
Failure of a 2004 Nissan Maxima's transmission at 70,000 miles. Coming home during rush hour, I slowed down while going around a curve getting onto the highway. When my car slowed to appox. 20 mph (my foot was not on any pedal), it suddenly revved and jerked back to 20 mph. It happen again a couple of days later at which time I took it to an honest transmission specialist. He hooked it onto a transmission diagnostic machine and couldn't find anything, but he began reading about the defective valve (widely known defect which Nissan is fully aware of, but refuses to do anything about. ) in the Maxima transmission. He replaced the valve at a cost of $1900!!! he subsequently informed me that this fix maybe just a "bandaid on a gunshot wound" and if I continued to have problems, the whole transmission would have to be replaced at a cost of an additional $2500 - $3000!! the valve was replaced 6/29/2011, as of yesterday (8/24/2011) the car has once again begun to act differently once it is at or around 20 mph. I have contacted Nissan about the situation and they said the car was too far out of warranty! what other cars transmission goes completely out at 70, 000 miles and has as many complaints all over the internet?? no one but the Nissan Maxima.
Automatic transmission lags during normal acceleration. Hard shift from park or reverse to drive continuing to a delay before actually being able to drive.
05 Maxima transmission/shifting problems my 2005 Nissan Maxima has about 62,000 miles and started showing signs of what may be serious transmission problems. While driving approxmimately 30 mph, the vehicle would give a hard jerk/jump also when decreasing speed. It feels like I'm being kicked in the back or rear end. A loud clunking sound. I've keep my car maintaned and even inspected by diagnostic nothing shows, no trouble codes show up when they put the car on the scope. The vehicle would be good for a couple of days and then start acting up again, clunking and sometimes bucking like a stubborn horse while driving. Mechanics have checked transmission oil and engine oil has been check and very good. I really suspect there is an undocumented flaw with this transmission and it showed up in the late '04 and '05 build cars.
The transmission on my Nissan Maxima 2006 constantly jerks and makes load thumping sound when placing the car in gear especially from a dead start and when braking from highway speeds to full stop. The transmission was flushed by the dealer in 2010 it ran smooth for about a month and is now showing signs of malfunctioning each time it is driven.
Having trouble with my transmission I have a 2005 Maxima auto. The transmission jerks when shifting from park to drive and reverse to drive. And also when im driving about 30 to 40 mph it will rev a little bit then catch the gear realy hard jerking.
