1 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 03/07/2021

I purchased a 2016 Nissan Maxima at 57,000. The vehicle had undergone proper servicing and was in great shape. At 62,000 miles the transmission failed and the car would not drive. While heading home from work I felt my entire vehicle begin to shake. The vehicle would not accelerate when I stepped on the gas and there was a 10 second delay before it began to move, afterwards, it immediately jolted and vibrated rigorously. I decided to proceed with caution and pull my vehicle over before it caused me to get into an accident. When put into drive or reverse with the brake released the car would not move. When the accelerator was depressed the rpms would flutter but the car would not move. I first thought that Nissan's notorious cvt problem had plagued my vehicle. I made an appointment to get my transmission inspected at route 23 Nissan in nutley, new jersey, and I had contacted Nissan north America's consumer affairs department. After dropping the vehicle off at route 23 Nissan, Nissan's consumers affairs department got back to me within 48 hours and informed me that Nissan had no interest in rectifying the situation because there was no recall and it was outside of the warranty period. the company must be waiting for the first death to occur similar to the takata incident. If this situation were to occur while I was on the highway it could have resulted in the injury of others and myself. Nissan technicians determined that the xtronic cvt had a complete failure and needed to be replaced because they could not be repaired. The repair cost is well over $4,000.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

Nissan cvt transmission on 12/05/2018, about 10:00am- took my vehicle in for oil change and vibrating and shaking of car. Paid about $350. 00 for oil change and transmission flush and change (which the service dept. Said I needed for transmission). That same day about 5:00pm while on the freeway my car stopped accelerating, starting shaking and I was able to pull over gradually to the side of the freeway. I got it towed back to the same Nissan service center for them to evaluate. On the next day the service representative says the car needs a new transmission and the warranty has expired. Nissan has come back to say that they will pay for a new transmission minus 20%, which will be $800. 00 but they are not willing to pay back the 308. 00 they charged for the transmission work done the following day. I have just began to realize how widespread a problem this Nissan cvt transmission is. I was so very fortunate that I was able to get to the side of the freeway safely.

While driving the car in town the car started jerking erratically, launching forward, hard jerks, car shaking like crazy, smell burning smell in the car, I almost hit other cars due to my car jerking forward. I was frightened. . . The car is very unsafe to drive to say the very least. It doesn't matter what speed you are driving, it jerks and launches forward at will. My children could have got seriously hurt riding in this car. I paid close to $800 toget this car fixed in may of 2013, only to have it all happen all over again as the Nissan corporation knew of defective transmissions in the Nissan maxiamas. Yet, they continue to sell these "death traps", to citizens. . This is an atrocity, whatthe Nissan corporation has to done it's consumers.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

Vehicle started shaking/jerking when pressing breaks for a red light, continued shaking/jerking as I was pressing on the break. Shaking and loud noise when car is turned on, jerking of gears as I am driving on freeway, seems to jump gears and takes a long time to catch itself on automatic gear changes. Have had this car since brand new and has given all kids of problems. For the last few years I've invested too much on repairs and replacement of parts that had no reason to fail. I expected this car to be a dependable and reliable vehicle based on the reputation of the maker. Love the internal features of comfort and luxury but this car fails where it counts. . . . The transmission and under the hood workings. ---I read other complaints about a foul odor in the car. . . I have recently experienced that strange/stinky odor in my car and thought it was milk or food my kids left in the car. . . I tend to have my car very clean and after a thorough inspection haven't been able to identify the source of the odor. . . After reading the other entries I can say it comes from the car itself as other's are experiencing the same thing.

15 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

I purchased my 2004 Maxima 18 months ago. From the time I drove it off the lot it started shaking. I took it back to the dealer a total of 4 times each time they told me it was something different, from the rotors to a weight falling off the wheel(which they say I lost). I was driving on a interstate highway and the vehicle started shaking and pulling so bad I almost had an accident. When I took it back for the fifth time I was told I had to pay to have the vehicle fixed(I had not owned it but 2 months). Finally I took it to another dealer (same affiliate) who fixed it so the shaking was not as bad (after 3 visits). I have taken the vehicle back on several occasions since then, and now when the jerking has gotten worse, sometimes jerks so hard it hurts my neck. The gears jerk when changing. I thought I just had to deal with the fact that I brought a lemon, but after reading all these complaints (which are either the same or similar) I know Nissan needs to correct these issues before someone is seriously hurt or loose there lives(as well as others). And I do plan to continue emailing sending letters, and calling until someone listens. Now I don't feel alone in this issue just pissed off. That Nissan has allowed this to go on so long without addressing the safety issue of this vehicle.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

I have a 2006, Nissan Maxima se. I've been having severe problems with my transmission. The car jerks violently when its changes gears between 1st and 2nd, as well as between 2nd and 3rd gear. After doing research on this problem online, I've seen countless number of people who complain about the same problem. I re-built the transmission at my expense of $3,200 and it wasn't over yet, then currently my check engine light is on and my car wont start, I would have to turn the key on and off 4-6 times every time I need to drive for it to start. My speedometer stopped working, therefore I can't see how fast or slow I'm driving nor is the mileage calculation are working it has been stuck at 86,745. So many people have experienced this problem from 2004 to 2008. I don't see how this could go on. While driving on the highway the electrical fails and the lights on the dashboard dim to where I am not able to control the vehicle and unable to use my signals for safety concerns, especially while traveling at night time. The vehicle shakes and is unstable at times. This is my only transportation to and from work and I need a solution to this problem. The sad part is that I have taken it to the dealer four times now and every time I pay these high fees for diagnostics and they can not give me a solution to my problem.

25 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 12/20/2008

I bought a 2004 Nissan Maxima about 6 months ago and the car has some defects that Nissan should be held responsible for. About a month after I bought the car I noticed a shaking in the steering when I stepped on the brakes or when I drive faster than 50mph. I took it into the dealership where I bought it from and they diagnosed that the rotors were slightly warped but that this wasn't necessarily a safety issue. Recently at 74,000 miles the cars transmission began to fail, slipping from first to second gear and from second to first gear. It jerks aggressively when it shifts and smells like burned rubber. I took it to be serviced for this and found that the transmission fluid was heavily contaminated and there was metallic residue in the transmission pan. The auto specialist determined that the inside of the transmission was burned and that eventually the car will stop working unless I get a new transmission installed. The dealership where I bought the car said that there isn't anything they can do for me and that it isn't there problem that the car I bought from them six months ago doesn't work. It is unfair that I am paying twice the amount of money of the car's worth. The retail value of the vehicle is $10,000 in good condition.

29 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/25/2008

I have on 3 occasions had my car shut off on me either while driving or while parked. I have had many parts replaced on my car. Just recently, my car slipped gears and would not go above 25 mph. I figured it was the transmission and I was right. Nissan replaced my transmission ( a few days before my extended warranty expired). Then I noticed my alarm system did not work after I got the car back. Less than a week later, my gears slipped, the car started to shake and it shut off on me in the middle of the road and it could not be restarted. Luckily, nobody got hurt. This problem needs to be looked at and a recall should be issued.

30 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

My car jerks when it changes gears. It has 87000 miles on it. I checked online to get a idea of what it can be and saw that many other people are experiencing the exact same thing. It seems a recall is in order. Also I noticed that the car shakes and this has happened around 40000 miles. Also people had similar postings. There seems to be no real solution that will fix the car longer than one month. Please investigate.
