Serious transmission issue. It makes a loud noise when it shifts from 2nd and 3rd gear, sometimes it only goes high on rpm without giving any traction to the wheels. Also the transmission kicks when I put in reverse after a while of being driving the car. I have already changed the 3 motor mounts because they were broken but I never I thought it would be due to transmission problems. I live in mexico and apparently it's very common also in Maximas in mexico.

8 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Experiencing severe transmission problems. The car has a 5 second or more delay in shifting into drive and once it does shift there is a violent jerk and clunking noise. When driving the rpm gauge goes up and down randomly. Gears slip from 1st to 2nd at any given moment. I know my car has 100k miles but it has been superbly kept since manufactured so this is baffling to me. I have spent hundreds of dollars on transmission flushes and tune ups hoping to alleviate the problem to no avail. I don't see myself spending thousands of dollars to replace a transmission that obviously was predestined for failure! I love foreign cars Nissan especially this is my second but at this point I am seriously considering Toyota and never buying or recommending a Nissan ever again!.

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

Vehicle started showing signs of transmission trouble with less than 68,000 miles driven. Initially, random revving/lagging was less noticeable and jerking was minimal. The problem progressively got more frequent and shifting became harsher and jerking would result in a hard clunking noise. Vehicle was brought to dealership service department for a diagnosis. Recommendation was for replacement of the transmission, motor mounts and timing chain service to remedy a whining noise from the engine. Extended warranty coverage was for 6years/75,000 miles so time constraint had expired although mileage was well under. Thus, dealer would not cover under warranty so I contacted Nissan corporate for assistance. They were also unwilling to cover replacement of transmission even with this being such a widespread issue with this particular vehicle/model year 04-06.

19 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/06/2011

For the past month, my 2006 Nissan Maxima has been having some problems with the transmission. When driving, as the car shift between gears 1-3, there are some loud noises and the car jerks forward with every gearshift. This is very dangerous when driving in traffic as the jerks propel the car forward between every gearshift. I did a computer diagnostic on the car and the results were that there is a problem with the valve body assembly on the transmission. I then went online and saw that there are hundreds of complaints regarding the same issue and all of the cars, were between 2005 -2008 and mileage ranged from 78000 to 95000. With all of these complaints that are online of the same problem with this car, I am surprised that there are no recalls for this particular car’s problems. It is very clear that there are some major defects with this particular transmission. Called a transmission repair shop and they verified the same problem with many Nissan Maxima cars that have been repaired at its shop. There projected repair prices range from $3000-$4000.

24 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/14/2010

2005 Nissan Maxima transmission problems. It seems to be a serious and common problem with this car! my Maxima is jerking between 1st 2nd and 3rd gears, rpms reaching 4 during shifting, hard jerks in down shifting as well. A 5 sec pause when putting the car into reverse or drive! a grinding noise when shifting. This occurs on a daily bases! very unhappy with Nissan, they refuse to pay for a new transmission. Nissan needs to take responsiblity for this faulty transmission. I will never buy another Nissan and I make sure that I tell everyone to buy Toyota or Honda!.

25 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/05/2010

Original owner of Nissan Maxima se. The car drove like a truck within 10k miles, wheel torqued at acceleration, clunk on well-maintained roads from front passenger wheel well. Front tires wore out 30k and clunking noise in front wheel well, car still under warranty, dealer says sports tires so less life and more road feel/noise comes through, put in new tires in back. Rotated original rear tires to front, they wore out recently (~49k). Clunking sound never stopped. Now car out of warranty. Dealer says your struts are gone and your motor mount is blown so there is a clunk from wheel well and your tires wore out. Oh yeah? so why does the transmission shift with a thunk from reverse to drive and vice versa? OH, you must first fix motor mount and strut before we can look at transmission. Paid to dealer to replace motor mount, replaced struts myself. The engine still thunks (transmission pauses before catching with a jerk from reverse to drive, or drive to reverse. The jerk is occasionally violent, less pronounced when engine cold. ) had the transmission flushed by dealer. No difference. A car driven 50k by a 70-year old experiences a broken motor mount, bum strut and broken transmission before 50k miles. I paid almost 30k for this white elephant. Have always owned japanese cars, first Nissan. Oh, did I mention the oil leak from engine oil seal (48k) and trunk lid slamming (40k) because the two piston arms to hold the lid can't hold the lid up (since it seems days after the warranty expired). Dealer seems to think I need a new transmission. The service specialist mentioned that this model has an issue will "rubber parts. " I guess the oil seal, the strut seal, the motor mount and the two trunk pistons all have rubber parts that leaked and/or disintegrated. He may have it about right. Am not sure what rubber part might be the cause of the most costly problem - the transmission, broken at 49k miles. Wonder why there isn't a recall.

28 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

I bought my 2006 Nissan Maxima se in 2007 with about 8k miles on it. The regularly maintained car now has a little under 81k miles and is having transmission problems. It started with the car jerking and a loud noise when shifting from drive to reverse and reverse to drive. Now the car is jerking when accelerating. The car stalls then surges forward. I took my car to my local mechanic because I can not afford to pay the $100 fee the dealership charges just to look at the vehicle. I was told the transmission is deteriorating. I started looking for information about it and came across an abundance of testimonies from people with the exact experience as me all within the same mileage and it seems Nissan is not doing anything about it. I guess someone will need to die before this issue is taken seriously. I am so done with Nissan, is there anything legally that can be done for Nissan to hear our voices for a recall to happen. Its to many people with the same complaints for this issue not to be addressed.

29 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/18/2010

2006 regularly maintained Nissan Maxima with a little under 81k miles started jerking and making a loud noise when shifting from drive to reverse and reverse to drive. Shortly after noticed that when accelerating car hesitates then surges forward. This happened once or twice a week, within 2 weeks started to occur more frequently and now whenever car shifts 1st to 2nd gear and vice versa. Took car to mechanic who advised transmission is deteriorating and needs to be rebuilt. According to mechanic and internet, this is a common malfunction with Nissan transmissions.

30 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/02/2010

I purchased a 2006 Nissan Maxima in 2009 the vehicle with approx. 67,000 as fine for the first 2 months. Here is where my problems started to occur, when turning towards the highway I accelerated to speed the car hesitated and was putting then the check engine light went on. Once I returned from out of state I contacted the dealership empire Nissan in lakewood, colorado and let them know what the situation was, the salesmen stated to disconnect the wire to the battery to reset the light, I did that and it went right back on after a couple of starts. I took the vehicle to a local mechanic where he said it was the oxygen sensor? it was replaced, then the vehicle was fine for awhile until the odometer read approx. 75,000 I noticed that if I was going down a hill at a fast pace then pushed the brakes to slow down the rpm's revved up to 5 and the engine would make a loud noise to accompany the rpm's at 5. Vehicle has been worse ever since I noticed that, it then started to slip in gear, going from r to d or d to r once shifter is in place it would pause then jerk into gear. Took the vehicle to aamco they stated that it was the motor mounts and also the fluids to the transmission. $700 later the vehicle is worse! now the car while in motion will kick and jerk hard in gear while the rpm's go all the way up to 5. When car comes to a stop with foot on the break car will jump forward. My latest incident is when at a stop and move to accelerate the car starts off as if it was in 5th gear! got the car home and put the shifter in manual transmission and it reads the engine is in 5th gear. I am a single mother of 4 young children, the car is so unpredictable, whether it is going to jerk into gear or completely stall out. There has to be something done with the transmission before someone gets killed driving this same type of car, there are several pages of complaints on the same issue with the same car, please please do a recall on the transmission of the 2006 Nissan Maxima!!!!!!.

31 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

Automatic transmission seems to struggle from take off to shifting from 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. When brake pedal is released the vehicle makes a violent forward thrusting motion accompanied by loud crashing noise similar to that of being hit in a rear end crash. When driving the vehicle at speeds of 50 mph and above the gears can be heard shifting around as if the car is in neutral. The rpm gauge goes up to 3 and beyond and the engine can be heard revving up. When this happens I release my foot from the gas pedal and let the car shift back down until the noises stop. The Nissan service team diagnosed the car as needing a transmission flush and fuel injection cleaning. These services were performed but the problems still remain.

32 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/14/2010

I purchased a 2005 Nissan Maxima brand new in January 2005. I had never driven the vehicle other than local to work. At 66000 miles my transmission began hard shifting. I contacted Nissan corporate office to authorize an out of warranty repair and they refused. It cost me 3200. 00 to replace the transmission. Now I am having strange noises coming from the front end. I believe it is the suspension. This car has not lived up to my expectations and I hope someone will take into account the many complaints regarding this make and model car and make the consumers back whole. I will never purchase another Nissan product simply because the products are poorly manufactured and Nissan does not stand behind its product.

35 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Car starting shifting extremely hard when changing from 1st to 2nd gear thought I was rear ended. Proceeded to research and came across many owners of this make model and year having the same issue and now as I change gears to park it idles for a few seconds then changes extremely loud and make a banging noise. I'm extremely worried for my safety due to the fact I commute back and fourth to work far distances and I bought this car at the Nissan dealership with confidence my car only has 101,000 miles and its a 2004 so it hasn't been abused.
