2 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/03/2013

I was driving my car at 40 mph in light rain. As I approached a red light, I lightly got on the brakes. Immediately, the abs kicked in. The amount of braking force was well below the margin where abs should kick in. Thinking it was a onetime deal, I drove cautiously and tried braking again. This abs again kicked in immediately. The abs kicking in did lengthen the stopping distance as I was not applying the brakes hard enough to effectively slow down. On the next attempt, acceleration, traction control kicked in upon acceleration, causing the car to shake violently. My car was taken to the shop where the right rear wheel speed sensor had build up on it. Checking forums about my car, this was a common occurrence and seems to be a design flaw. Under different circumstances, a collision could have resulted due to the issue. Nissan has a service bulletin for this issue, but in my eyes, this issue is should be a investigated further as control of vehicle speed is compromised.

4 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima with 50,008 miles on it and recently had the abs coming on while I was driving and no dash warning lights on, brought it to the dealer to find out that the right rear abs speed sensor went bad but why didn't any warning lights come on they pulled the abs fuse and now the warning lights are on but you absolutely can not stop the vehicle when this happen this imagine hitting the brakes at 55 mph with your two year old in car and its not stopping because when you abs sensor goes bad it turns on the abs which does not allow your normal brakes to operate and do not throw any of your dash lights on, if I had the money for a lawyer I would be going after Nissan right now it should work so if you have a problem with your abs it should turn at least your warning lights and then disconnect the abs so you can use your normal brakes to actually stop the car. . . . . Also none of the front end and rear end body lines match up to none of the gaps between hood and fenders are the same can get finger in one side and not the other same with the trunk, and the car has only been in one accident that I know of that I reported had gotten side swiped at 45 mph on drivers side by big truck also notice that front and rear windshields do not have Nissan stamp on windows the car fax was clean well the on the dealership I bought car from was clean I think this car was wrecked front and rear and fixed and wasn't reported then sold to me with 26,800 miles when I bought it no sits at 50,000 cause have nothing but problems with I would like a state inspector to look at car my opinion is car is unsafe but only one I have and still owe more than 10,000 dollars on it please help.

5 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

I bought the 2004 Nissan Maxima sl for my wife in 2008. It was a one owner with about 90,000 highway miles, I loved the car and had no problems until Feb 2010. The abs system started acting up. Sounds like the abs is trying to engage every time you hit the brakes. Nissan dealership wanted $100 just to hook it to computer to see what the problem was, no thank you. I had a mechanic friend hook his service computer up while I drove and like many other consumers, my Maxima has a right (passenger) rear speed sensor that is bad, this causes the brakes to not function properly, all the while there are no service lights on the dash, you can pull the abs fuse and but then that knocks out 1/2 of the cluster, including speedometer, gas gauge, parts of the obc, this is a huge problem suffered by many consumers and needs to be addressed immediately.

6 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

My anti-lock brake system kept activating on dry pavement. I was past my warranty so I took it to my mechanic. They indicated that the left rear wheel speed sensor needed replaced ($350). We replaced it, then 14 months later it started again. This time it was the right rear wheel speed sensor ($350). My mechanic replaced it and a couple of weeks later the anti-lock brake pumped started running non-stop. Even when in park. The mechanic then stated the anti-lock brake controller needed replaced ($1300). Now it has been 10 months and it's starting again. If I drive on dry pavement the anti-lock brakes kick in non-stop. There obviously is a design malfunction somewhere in the anti-lock brake system.

9 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/28/2007

Defective abs sensor ($482. 71) apparently a common issue with the 2004 Nissan Maxima as there is a service bulletin alerting the dealers of the same. I tried to get Nissan to at least cover the cost of the part ($202. 99) and was finally contacted by the "regional rep" after over a week of e-mails and phone calls. I was told I was basically "sol". Seems to me that a brake issue involving defective parts is very serious one. And at least the consumer should be alerted to it, even if it is not at the recall stage yet!!!! no longer happy with the folks at Nissan.

10 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/16/2006

Abs light illuminated on the dash. Subsequent total loss of braknig which nearly caused a crash between my vehicle and another. Only by acceleratng very hard through a stop sign, at which I was unable to stop, was I able to avoid an oncoming vehicle. According to my owners manual, whenever the abs warnign light illuminate, I will lose only my abs but will retain normal breaking. This proved not to be the case. I lost the ablity to stop. According to the manufacturer's dealership repair facility, the loss of abs was a result of a non-functioning rear wheel speed sensor. The vehicle is currently being repaired by this repair facility. I will request that the failed part be kept and given to me.
