Bought a 2005 Nissan Maxima, the car quit working in August 2009, I've taken it to 6 mechanics and it's still doing the same thing. The Nissan dealerships don't seem to have a solution to the problem just kept charging me more and more. The car jerks in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, I've had the transmission replaced, motor mounts, catalytic convertor replaced and the car is still doing the same thing.

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. While attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the vehicle would not move. The contact had to shut off the vehicle and wait a few minutes to restart it before it would drive normally again. The failure occurred several times at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the catalytic converter and transmission were failing. The current and failure mileages were 84,000.

Service engine light will not go off. No problem with car or the emission or enviormental equipment. Spent $100 twice for Nissan analysis. They want $1400 for light to go off. Ridiculous. Called Nissan USA after seeing many Maxima 2001 cars have similar problem and frustration. Recommend another $100 analysis and no support whatsoever. Never buying Nissan again.
I have had numerous problems with my 2004 Nissan Maxima. I have had to replace tires, have had the vehicle in the shop for the check engine light coming numerous times; have paid to have the battery replaced because the car suddenly stalled; have had the catalytic converter replaced because of one of the check engine light trips to the dealer. Most recently, I replaced the front and back brakes due to what I thought was normal wear and tear. A month later, the abs brake system fails, and I am told that is not under warranty, and the charge will be $1,645. The car is only two years old. I am at the dealer at least once, sometimes twice a month. I used to be the biggest cheerleader for Nissan. I had a 1991 Nissan Maxima that I bought used with 173,000 miles on it. That car was on the road until it had more than 300,000. Now I feel like I purchased a lemon. I bought a new car because I didn't want the headaches that come along with a used car. I took my car to the dealer on September 18th because something weird going on with the brakes. I had had the brakes changed about a month before that, I knew that they were in good condition. I received a call later that day telling me that my abs brake system was bad and needed to be replaced. And that I would need to cover the cost because the part was no longer under warranty. I contact Nissan north America to lodge a complaint on September 19th to see if they would cover the cost for the abs system failing, because I don't think that I should have to cover a major repair like that on a 2 year old car. I was told that a regional specialist would call me back within 24 hours. 2 days passed without a return call. I called again on the 22, and again on the 25th with no response. L believe that Nissan is aware of all of the manufacturing defects with the Maxima and by not responding hope that consumers will go ahead and pay for the repairs over and over again because they are afraid to drive an unsafe car.
I have a problem with emission system and catalyst converter, light service engine went on,and I replaced oxygen sensors while car was under warranty 2 times. And now I need to spent $700 to fix will never buy Nissan cars again.
Soon after my warranty expire on my Nissan Maxima se 2001. My catalytic converter failed. I call the company to complain about it as I understand the converter is not a part that is likely to fail. I have always purchased a 91 octane gasoline or higher and kept a routine maintenance. I also have to replace my exhaust system because of corrosion just recently and as if this was not enough, driving home from work the other day, my car started shaking and vibrating. I am not quite sure what has caused the vibration but would like to bring it to your attention.
My 2000 Nissan Maxima had less 24,000 miles when my mechanic recently reported it needed a new catalytic converter. He said this doesn't occur until about 80,000 miles and it was probably caused by defective material or workmanship from the manufacturer. Without this expensive repair my car will not pass the smog test. Nissan corporation refuses repair assistance because of the end of the warranty period even though the mileage is far below that covered by warranty. The only explanation is a defect in Nissan's material or workmanship that they should be responsible for.

I own a 2000 Maxima, which I bought new. The service engine light first appeared at around 15000. I brought it in to get my car service for the 15k service at the dealership. They said everything was fine. The light was off after that. However it reappeared three weeks later. At 30k, I brought it in for service again. I light I was told is due to the O2 sensor that was very sensitive, but they assured me nothing was wrong. Again after a day or so, the light came on again. I figure this was a way for Nissan service to make some money, so I didn't think much of it. At 55k, I brought it in to the dealership again for service, they said everything was fine. Again, a few days later, the light came on again. Foolish me, I didn't think anything of it. After all I took care of the car. Recently, I have problem with the milege. I was going getting 240 mi versus 320 mi that I was normally getting. I brought it to a mechanic, and he hooked it up to his computer, and found out one of the coil was damage so he replaced it. He also told me that my service engine soon light was on all the time because the of catalytic converter . My car has 83k miles on it now. It seems like a lot but it's only 3 years old. I don't think the cc should be giving me ploblems at this stage. I check the warranty for it, and since I'm in CA it's only good for 70k/ 7years. I have spoken to Nissan customer service and explain the situation, but because the car is no longer under warranty, they told me they have no obligation to fix the problem. I really believe there is something wrong with this part. I have search the internet and fould out that many people have experience this problem also. Nissan should really look into this problem. This is my 3rd Nissan car. It's been good but I don't think I'll buy another Nissan again. It's just not relaible as it use to be.
The "service engine soon" light has come on 3 times within the last year, starting at 25,290 miles. The first 2 times, my mechanic said the scan code po 420 showed a problem with the catalytic converter and he reset the computer. The third time it came on, I took the car to the Nissan dealer, and they replaced nothing, but "reprogrammed" the computer to clear it, and charged me $147. My Maxima has only 32,013 miles and has been serviced regularly. This is a rip off.
The "service engine soon light" comes on about once a month. My automobile mechanic has turned off the light each time. He says that the catalytic converter is either weakening or their is a defect in the light. I find it alarming especially when I'm driving and I worry about it each time it comes on.
Engine check light has come on 3 times (within 13 months of purchase) catalytic converter is the problem all 3 times.
While driving there is a strong odor which smell such as " an open bottle of bleach" which causes the driver to feel faint or have headaches. Please provide further information.
Engine check light illuminates while driving. Dealer has replaced catalytic converter. However, engine check light still illuminates.
