On April 3, 2016 I started my 2007 Nissan Maxima which the engine shook then stalled after running for about 3 seconds. Had it towed to a local Nissan dealer which informed me that the timing jump and bent valves now needing a new engine. After researching found that there is a class action lawsuit against Nissan for their timing chain guide which causes the timing chain to jump and damage the engine. Reading how dangerous when any of these occur while the vehicles are in motion, occupants of the vehicles are exposed to rear end collisions and other accidents caused by the driver¿s inability to maintain an appropriate speed on the road. The fact that the timing chain systems are prone to premature failure is also material to consumers because there is no safe alternative way for owners of the subject Nissan vehicles to avoid the risk of potential harm. As a result of its failure to disclose the material fact that the timing chain systems installed in the subject Nissan vehicles are prone to premature failure, Nissan has recklessly placed the safety of owners and occupants of the vehicles at risk. Traveling at 65 mph on the highway my new timing chain failed causing "catastrophic engine failure" on a car for which I am diligent about maintenance. Again, almost killed on the highway! had to buy a brand new engine at a cost of $8100!" - 2006 Nissan pathfinder owner / lewiston, maine. As you see by this article how dangerous this issue with Nissan is and they are not doing anything about it. Now my engine will not start and Nissan refuses to install and new engine when they now it is a manufacture defect. This is my second engine in my 2007 Nissan Maxima, the first one blew when my daughter driving on the highway and the piston exploded out of the block and engine caught on fire because the timing chain failed.

Ses, tcs, and slip lights on. Engine running roughly. Dx from auto zone on ses is ignition coils. Upon checking internet, this is a very common problem with Maximas and can cause engine failure. Requires replacement of all 6 coils. Very costly. Is there a recall? recommendations state that O2 sensor should also be replaced. Any possibility that the Nissan company will repair for free since this is such a common problem and must be a defect?.

Tl-the contact owns a 2002 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph the engine stalled. The various warning indicators illuminated prior to the malfunction. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. Upon restarting the vehicle resumed normally for a short distance. The failure recurred and the engine failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who replaced the alternator. The failure recurred after the repair. The independent mechanic informed that the defect was contributed to the cam shaft position sensor. The vehicle was previously repaired under a recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired for the recent failure . The failure mileage was unavailable. Js.

Completing tune up on vehicle when oil was found in spark plug tube which could have led to engine failure/fire. Nissan customer service was notified and failed to correct the issue. Should be seals/gaskets between valve cover and spark plug tube seals. I also discovered that earlier and later models other than 2002 and 2003 models have the seals installed from the manufacturer.
Faulty engine sensors; engine failure; manufacturer's failure to recognize problem.
Problem 1 of 5: purchased 2004 Maxima brand new on 4/12/04. End of June, 2004, noticed temperature gauge pinned at hot. Also, sometimes when I reverse, my trunk pops open. Called Nissan to bring car in. Was not given appointment until 7/12/04. Of course, the wonderful mechanics at Nissan huntington could not experience the same problem and said my car was operating property at that time. Gave me my car back and was told the next time my car is pinned at hot, bring it right in. Then, a few weeks later, the thermostat was pinned at hot again. When I called Nissan the woman who answers the phone for service would not let me bring my car in despite what the mechanic told me a few weeks back. She would not give me an appointment until the following week. I told her that this could be a major engine problem and what if my car engine fails. She did not care. So I drove the car in anyway, and had to cut the line at the service dept and grab a mechanic so they can see for themselves that the thermostat was indeed pinned at hot and I am not crazy. This was on 8/11/04, my car is just about 4 months old now. The dealership finally determined faulty temperature gauge and placed gauge. I only had 3,992 miles on this car. The dealership did give me a rent a car because I made a big stink about my car being broken and I would be out of a car for 4 days.

It is my understanding the Nissan used plastic sprockets in the timing chain and they are failing. It is also my understanding that Nissan is aware of the problem and has since changed the production from using plastic. The plastic sprockets break which can then cause major engine failure. To have the timing chain problem repairs will cost me in excess of $2k because the manufacturer choose to experiemtn with using plastic in the engine.
