1 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/02/2012

Garage-kept since new 1999 Nissan Maxima has developed severe rust/body rot in the "radiator support member" which also attaches front engine mount points. This damage was caught during an oil change when the protective plastic shield was removed - which exposed the degree of danger. Inattentive owners could miss this entirely and the engine could literally rip from the car over severe bumps! be sure to check under your radiator!.

2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2000 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/04/2012

During routine inspection at Nissan dealership technician discovered that the stuctural support for the radiator was rotted. The structural support also supports the engine. Dealership informed me that this is very dangerous and requires immediate attention. The structural integrity of the engine mount is compromised. This seems to be a common defect, as I observed at least 5 other similar complaints posted on the NHTSA website. Owners of these vehicles should be notified of this dangerous condition.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/06/2011

I bought a 2005 Maxima 3. 5 sl in 2006 brand new in south carolina. I first started having problems when I had my 60,000 mile service. About two weeks after the service my check engine light came on so, I took it to the dealership. They said there was no codes, and cleared the light. I then took my car in for the 90,000 service and once again around a week or two later my check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and now their was codes saying my egr valve needed to be replaced. I told the dealership the same thing happened when I did my 60,000 mile service. Needless to say their was a recall that they would have replaced it for free but I was just over the mileage where it could have been done at no cost to me. About 3 months later my car jerked really hard, and my car lost complete power then jerked once more and started to move. The gauges in the car went completely out and every light possible on the dash came on. First I was told I have to replace four sensors, and so I did so along with the egr valve. The car ran fine for about two weeks and started doing the same thing. When I went from drive to reverse or vice versa it would jerk real hard before engaging. I then took the car to the repair shop and they said my transmission sensor was bad. I just had it replaced two weeks ago, and now my car is back is the shop doing the same thing. The tcs slip, and every light on the dash is on, and none of my gauges are working. Now they say it might be the computer that is bad. This last time I was on my way home from missouri and it disengaged and would not put up speed when I pressed the gas pedal. I was nearly rear ended, and had to pull over because my 12 year old daughter was in the car and got scared.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1997 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/01/2008

It all started with the noises from the exhaust. So I fixed the flex pipe and no more noise, the mechanic said it's a common Maxima problem. Then the check engine light came on. So I fixed the O2 sensor and the knock sensor, the mechanic said it's a common Maxima problem. I drove the car to the inspection station a few days later and the light came on. The knock sensor code came on, the O2 sensor, the vehicle speed sensor, there was an egr malfunction, a serial a/t link communication malfunction and possibly other codes I cannot recall right now. The mechanic said it's all common Maxima problems. I've spent so far at least $800 and the car is still not working properly, and I cannot pass inspection.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2000 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 12/29/2007

My 2000 Maxima has a check engine light illuminated. Normally, the cars runs fine but approximately 10 times over the last several years in extremely humid conditions and when the temperature is around 50 degrees (f), the idle gets extremely rough. I had the fault codes read and they were p1320 (three times) and p0420 (once). After being read, the codes were reset, but immediately returned. This defect has existed on and off for over two years and has been reset several during this time. When reset the last time, the weather was exactly as described above. The car has 36k miles and is driven around 4k miles per year. My investigation indicated defective coils, which are known problems to Nissan and should have been recalled a long time ago. The car was purchased due to consumer reports great ratings but because of this defect I can safely say that I would never purchase a Nissan automobile again. Asking consumers to pay over $1000 to repair a vehicle built with defective parts is almost criminal. Nissan should own up to its responsibility and recall the known defective parts thus restoring customer satisfaction and vehicle reliability.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/30/2007

With my 1999 Nissan Maxima se v6, egr valve related issues were detected and engine light started to come up soon after the ignition. According to Nissan dealer, oxygen sensors and egr valves work is need that would cost $1800 or more. At that time the car mileage was around 80,000. I could not afford to fix that. But later one of the rod in the engine broken, fire started under the engine while I was driving at 70 m/h on the highway. My family was in a great danger and we were lucky to survive with the help of police and fire engine when someone called 911. There has been another complain about egr value on NHTSA web site by another Nissan Maxima owner.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2000 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/17/2007

Engine runs rough during cold weather (<50 degrees) and trips the code for engine misfire. The code does not always tell which cylinder has the misfire. Engine coils determined to be the problem, but replacement only delays another misfiring for a while. I like the car but doubt I'll ever buy another Nissan because of this issue.

8 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 12/10/2005

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that whenever it was cold, snowing and approximately thirty degrees the vehicle would not start. The failure has occurred since 2004 immediately after the vehicle was purchased. The dealer has made several unsuccessful attempts to diagnose the failure. The contact is only able to drive the vehicle when someone jump starts it during the winter months. The failure never occurs during the summer months. The contact wrote a letter to the vehicle manufacturer and has not received a response. The contact has repeatedly taken the vehicle to the dealer to diagnose the failure. The failure mileage was 75 and the current mileage was 44,000.

9 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1996 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/09/2005

: the contact stated the check engine light illuminates after 55-60 trips to an independent mechanic. In addition to the check engine light illuminating the engine made a pinging noise when accelerating. On one occasion, the mechanic cleaned the coils. The independent repair shop suggested replacing the egr valve, but the contact declined because the state would not allow the installation of a used egr valve. The codes were cleared several times in order to get the light to go off. The check engine light always comes back on. Sometimes it came on within 30 minutes of being repaired.

11 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/08/2004

I need to replace the following for my 99 Nissan Maxima so far:- (1) 2 oxygen sensors. (2) 1 engine control module (3) 6 ignition coils and 1 condenser now, the traction control system is not working. My Maxima has only 52,000 miles. All these repairs right after 36,000 miles. Nissan should recall all these. However, I know NHTSA won't recall it because there is no injuries. Thank you very much.
