On Thursday, may 20th our 2006 Nissan Maxima quit running. The oil light came on as I was driving at approximately 75mph on a freeway overpass. Within 60 seconds of the light coming on the engine starting making a horrible noise. I was able to clear the freeway before it quit running. In the car were me (the driver), my husband (front passenger seat) and our 8 month old niece (strapped in a rear facing carseat). Car was eventually towed to a Nissan dealer where they state they believe the oil pump is defective. Car has approximately 70,000 miles and is out of warranty. No previous engine issues or repairs have been noticed. At this point, Nissan is not taking responsibility for the engine failure.
